Lagos, have decried the
activities of a pentecostal
church, Power of the Holy
Ghost Evangelical
Ministry, A.K.A. Tuesday
Tuesday Church.
During a protest in the
community, they accused
the church of regular
procession in the area and
that the church also used
Police to harass members of
the community, noting that
the activities of the church
had become a threat to the
peace.
Efforts, however, to get
the reaction of the church,
proved abortive as it denied
Vanguard access into the
church premises to see the
Pastor.
Addressing newsmen,
Vice Chairman of Shoba
Landlord Association, Mr.
Femi Ekundayo, said:
“Apart from the rancorous
and violent processions
every week with total
blockade of the roads
leading to our community,
they broke into people’s
shops and properties at
night and desecrate same
in the name of purification
with thick smelling and
hazardous substances.”
Ekundayo, who read a
statement signed by the
Baale of Ado Shoba, Chief
Rasheed Jimoh and Aare
Onakakanfo, Dr. Gani
Adams, alleged that “their
activities at nights are most
unbearable as they noisily
pollute the environment
from evening till the early
hours of the day.”

She was a flirt, says spare parts
dealer who killed wife in Oshodi
•Parents warned her to leave him, she kept hoping he’ll change—Brother

LAGOS—A vehicle parts
dealer, Tochukwu Chukwu,
at the popular Ladipo Spare Parts
Market in Lagos, has said he
stabbed his wife, Joy, to death
because she was a flirt.
Vanguard gathered that the
suspect was apprehended by
vigilant residents, while
attempting to dispose her corpse
which he put inside a bucket, at
night.
It was also gathered that when
the suspect, Tochukwu, was
caught he gave the impression
that he was taking his dead
wife’s remains to the mortuary,
but the neighbours became
suspicious when the four people
who accompanied him ran away
on sighting the Police.
A source said when the Police
took the corpse to the mortuary
for postmortem examination, it
was discovered that the victim
was stabbed in the back with a
knife.
“Based on the new discovery,
the Police invited Tochukwu for
further questioning,” the source
added.
The source also said Police
operatives led by the Divisional
Police Officer for Akinpelu,
Oshodi, CSP Jimoh Aliu, went
back to the crime scene where
they discovered the murder
weapon and secured it for further
forensic analysis.
Suspect’s account
According to Tochukwu, “my
wife was a flirt. There was a time
I travelled to Enugu State; when
I called my wife, she didn’t pick.
Later a man picked her call and
threatened me. The man that
picked my call told me never to
call her again.”
One of the wife’s relatives, who
does not want his name in print,
said: “It is just unfortunate that
Joy died this way. Her parents
had told her to quit the marriage,
because her life was obviously in
danger. But she stayed, thinking
he would change his suspicious
nature.
“Now see where it has landed
her. Before this incident, he told
his wife that he was travelling,
but he didn’t. Unknown to Joy,
he had his plans. He
has never caught
her with any
man.”

A neighbour, Maris Uke, said:
“Mr. Tochukwu has been living
with his wife here for a while.
He is very suspicious of his wife’s
activities.
“Actually, we don’t know what
happened that night, but they
were always having domestic
issues. It was in the course of

AKURE—A
Chief
Magistrate’s Court sitting in
Ondo town, Ondo State, has
ordered that five persons be
remanded in prison custody for
allegedly gang-rapping,
torturing and videotaping two
under-aged girls.
The five accused persons,
Bode Akinsiku, Femi Olabanji,
Abiodun Ayodele, Wahab
Fadairo and Adebayo
Adedayo, were arraigned on a
six-count charge of conspiracy,
rape, defamation of character,
torture and videotaping,
among others.
According to the prosecutor,
Inspector Bernard Olagbayi,
the offences are contrary to
Sections 516, 351, 360, 367, 359
and 375 of the Criminal Code
Cap 37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo
State of Nigeria, 2006.
Inspector Olagbayi said the
five accused persons were
alleged to have tortured and
unlawfully had carnal
knowledge of the two teenage

Confirming the

Lagos State Police
Command, SP Chike
Oti, said the
suspect
is in
custody and that investigation is
still ongoing.
He added: “From preliminary
investigation, it appears like a
case of domestic violence.
“The Police have visited the
crime scene and recovered the
murder weapon (knife). They
secured it carefully for further
forensic analysis.”

He urged the court to grant
him short adjournment, so that
he will be able to arrange all
his witnesses.
Counsel to the five accused
persons, Adesanmi Olarewaju,
O. A. Akinbinu and A. J.
Akindele, urged the court to
grant the accused bail on
liberal terms, promising that
the accused will not jump bail.
After listening to applications
from both parties, Chief
Magistrate B. F. Ajibade, denied
the bail applications made by all
the counsel and ordered that the
accused persons be remanded in
prison till June 21.
Customs impounds E-Money’s 10 luxur

Unit, FOU, Zone A,
Nigeria Customs Service, has
impounded 10 luxury
vehicles belonging to E-
Money, a popular music
promoter, over underpayment
of duty on the vehicles.
The vehicles, said to have been
cleared by officers and men of
Apapa Customs Command, were
intercepted by officials of FOU,
following a tip-off about the value
of duty paid on them.
