Perhaps the most important reason to focus on learning the right questions to ask is that doing so cuts
down the time it takes to learn. Part of this is obviously because the right questions lead to the right
answers, but its more than that. A lot of time is wasted when information is covered that we do not
recognize as being important simply because we are not asking the right questions. If you are going to
accelerate your learning curve, you must focus on knowing what questions are vital to success in the
industry. In each of the Top Dogs courses, we work hard to identify the questions necessary for success.
We even go so far as to supply you with dozens of questionnaires, one for each scenario you may
encounter.
Reasons: Ultimately, the question you must seek to answer about everything is “Why?” If you understand
why things are the way they are, then things make more sense and are remembered more easily.
The pattern you must follow to learn quickly can be summarized by, “What, Why, and How.” You
must learn what to do, why it’s important, and how to do it, in that order. Unfortunately, many educational
processes leave out the “why” in their explanations. We have sought to structure all of our
courses around this principle.
Multiple Modalities: We each experience the world through five senses, but many of us have adopted
habits and preferences that favor one of these senses. In other words, some of us learn best visually,
while other need to hear it. Others learn best by reading and some need to experience it. One way to
accelerate learning is to incorporate all of these modes of learning, which is something we have sought
to do in the courses we teach.
Actions: Another way to accelerate learning is to immediately take action on what you have learned.
Go use it! All of our courses are assignment-based, meaning that each of the lessons in the courses
contain assignments. I have often told people that the most valuable description of our courses is that
they are work plans; a series of tasks to carry out. These tasks ensure success when carried out.
Experience: Experience comes as you take action. The more action you take, the more experience
you obviously get. So if you would like to learn more, do more. Take massive action.
Our goal was to teach what normally took five or even ten years to learn, in one year. In fact, we
wanted to replace the first two or three years worth of learning with just a few short months. To do this, we
needed to incorporate all of these principles for accelerated learning, which is something that we feel we have
done quite well.
