Annual Report

There are over 6,000 homeless and trafficked youth
in Los Angeles County without a safe place to sleep
each night. And 3,500 more youth in the Bay Area.
Covenant House California has been a constant in
helping these young people find their way, pursue
their dreams, and live to the fullest potential.
But, how does it all begin?
Luke arrived to CHC with these five pieces. But,
with some help, he found a job and even
discovered his hard work wasn’t going unnoticed.
His journey, from homelessness to encouragement
to giving back, is one example of why we are so
hopeful that CHC’s growth, especially this past year,
is only the beginning.
WHAT LUKE HAD ON HIM WHEN
HE ARRIVED AT CHC:
1. A worn beanie with a hole at the top.
2. Size 38 jeans. But, Luke is a size 30. He’s
content with something that will shelter
him from the elements.
3. A pair of shoes. While on the streets,
a stranger gave these to Luke. He
cherishes them because without socks he
would freeze.
4. A simple backpack that houses all
of his belongings. Family heirlooms and
high school yearbooks that most of us
treasure, Luke can’t take with him.
5. One sweatshirt. The only thing that has
kept him halfway warm on some of these
cold nights.
