Festering Under Tortured Skin

The title relates to my struggles
with Anxiety and Depression and
are all self-portraits.
Creating artwork for me has
always acted as escapism from my
depression
and it’s also been a way for me to
take these feelings that build up
inside myself
and to make them into something
tangible that I can see,
which from a young age helped by
acting as a coping mechanism.

The crystal being awakens, silenced. Shard and flesh indistinguishable, they find
their body alien and uninhabitable. Quartz pieces seemingly too familiar lie in front
of them, to be arranged indefinitely. Slowly gaining understanding; spurred by their
surrounding onlookers, the crystal being violently sheds to a soundtrack realised
through the vibrations of their own shattered body.

Nicole’s practice uses several media such as performance, drawings, videos,
soundtracks and writing. She/they work as an artist individually or collaboratively
in projects or in collectives (Spiegelei collective, Lausanne,
CH, Queerology, Leeds, UK).
Nicole’s current research explores the public space as a political strategy
of exchanges with a non-specific “audience”.

Coming from a place of personal contemplation, Hall uses improvisational performance
as a form of exploring a series of sensory and social gestures in relation to
questions regarding their role as Autos (Greek ‘Self’) and how they affect, and are
affected, by the world around them.
In “AUTOS/FLECTIONS”, Hall delves deeper into a series of gestures that they have
touched on over the last year, such as the recorded voice, the use of surface reflections
in glass and the intimate action of kissing as a means of exploring personal
contemplations.

A naked white body hanging in the void…with
water dripping and penetrating its skin like a
Japanese torture … washing everything away
… revealing its true nature … waiting to be
loved… with only the sound of dripping water
and an audience walking through it, becoming
one with this boy …
‘This boy needs love’ is an endurance performance
/ installation that investigates and questions
the paradox of aesthetics and pain in the
search for a new beauty.
The duration of this piece depends on the physical
endurance of the performer’s body at the
time

Richard James Hall [UK]
Using the permanency of the tattoo and impermanency of scents combined in a ritualistic
practice, Rasic invites visitors to mark her skin. Each mark will connect with
another, forming a continuous line around her waist.
What is a scar? Is it an experience or a memory? Does it transform us? Trying to
capture the fragility of our memories, Rasic will examine the idea of the scar, both
physically and mentally.
