SMARTER, FASTER BETTER HOMES
Today’s new homebuilders are looking to build smarter, faster, and better homes. They are embracing today’s
technology and a “systems” approach, where engineered components are used to improve the consistency and
“on-time” efficiency of building. Mold, high energy bills, and leaky building envelopes are a thing of the past.
• Efficiency of Construction
• Energy Use
• Maintenance
• Healthy Homes
• Sustainable Green Homes
If you are looking to build an attractive, state of the
art, high-performance home that conserves energy
and money during construction and throughout the
life of your home, a Superior Walls foundation should
be in your builder’s plan. As an added bonus, your
Superior Walls foundation can quickly become valuable
added living space for your theater room, home
office, game room, or mother-in-law suite.
Warm And Dry
Precast wall panels have a minimum 5,000+ psi concrete with fibermesh reinforcement. Superior Walls are warranted
for structural defects and sidewall groundwater penetration.
Energy Efficient
DOW® Styrofoam Insulation is built in the Xi wall to provide an insulation value of R-12.5. Additional cavity
insulation may be site-installed to maximize insulation up to a value of R-50+.
Custom Designed
Superior Walls are built to virtually any architectural style to include details such as window and door openings,
beam pockets, and brick ledges. The walls are available in 4’, 8’2”, 9’, and 10’ heights.
Year-Round Building
Superior Walls are manufactured in a climate-controlled facility and delivered directly to your job site. Typically,
foundations are installed in less than one day by certified crews and can be installed all year regardless of most
weather conditions.
Ready To Finish
Wiring and plumbing run through holes in the factory-installed studs; then the walls are ready-to-finish with drywall.
Double The Living Space
Double the living space of your single story home by adding a
Superior Walls foundation system.
Increase The Value
• Research indicates that a non-insulated basement
can account for up to 33% of the total heat loss in
your home.
• If you are building a green home, you can add
Green Building Guideline (GBG) Points to your home
by building with Superior Walls.
An important part of green and sustainable construction is to minimize disturbance to the site and the
environment. This includes minimizing the amount of construction waste produced as well as respecting the
land around the building site. Prefabricated products such as Superior Walls make great sense in building
green. They are manufactured off-site under strict quality assurance guidelines. When manufactured with
materials acceptable as sustainable, green, and local, it’s hard to envision a better method to be utilized
when building green.
Superior Walls Xi wall uses built-in 2.5 inches of Dow ® STYROFOAM blue-board insulation.
Everything about this wall is insulated, including corners, studs and top bond beam, making a complete thermal
envelope. Special engineering makes the wall thermally insulated and isolated from the exterior elements. It is
monolithically poured (poured all at once) with high-strength concrete for solid structural integrity and reinforced
with steel rebar and polypropylene fibers.
Xi Walls = X-TRA Insulation
The Xi Wall’s special high strength, low-water concrete mix also requires no additional damp-proofing, and
meets or exceeds energy conservation requirements from both the IECC and the IRC Codes.
Green Points
REDUCES ENERGY LEAKAGE
Superior Walls concrete
wall panels minimize the
potential for energy
leakage. The combination
of pre-engineered built-in
insulation and high-strength
concrete makes a great
foundation for energy
conservation.
LOWERS ENERGY COST
Built-in insulation lowers
energy loss through the
basement walls. The
R-12.5 insulation
throughout the wall
panels minimizes
thermal transfer.
SAVES VALUABLE
NATURAL RESOURCES
The foundation panels
are engineered and
manufactured with
insulated concrete studs,
thus reducing the amount
of lumber, stone, sand
and concrete in your new
home.
PRE-ENGINEERED FOR
ENERGY AND STRENGTH
Superior Walls 5000+ psi
concrete, engineered with
a lower water-to-cement
ratio, ensures durability and
helps prevent the transfer of
moisture through the wall.
Superior Walls has received the National Green
Building Standard (NGBS) certification, which
certifies homes to the rigorous requirements of
the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard
(NGBS) and is the only residential green building
rating system approved by ANSI as an American
National Standard. Superior Walls is one of
the first 25 manufacturers to obtain this certification.
A dry basement limits the
possibility of mold and other
airborne fungus found in
other basements which can
affect your air quality.
REDUCES ON-SITE SOIL
CONTAMINATION
Superior Walls are built in
an indoor production
facility; therefore no form oil
is used at the jobsite.
Because damp-proofing is
built-in (ESR-1662), there
is no need to use on-site
bituminous coatings.
REDUCES JOBSITE WASTE
With the reduction of
installation time, there is
less environmental impact
and less jobsite waste
than a home using other
foundations.
Basic Site Preparation
GRAVEL FOOTING SYSTEM
The gravel footing system, promoted
by architect Frank Lloyd
Wright, allows water to drain
away from the wall and will not
have water penetrating into the
foundation.
DRAIN PIPE
Inside or out, this 4” perforated drain pipe assures you of a drier
foundation by collecting and channeling excess water away. Drain
should be located 12” away from and just below the base of the
Superior Wall system.
The Superior Walls system offers the quickest and most efficient
installation process of any product or system on the market. Our
experienced crews can install an average foundation in about five
hours, regardless of most weather conditions.
To avoid delays and ensure fast and proper delivery and installation of Superior Walls,
follow these basic site preparation guidelines:
• A 40’ x 40’ level area, clear of overhead obstructions, must be provided for the crane.
• The basement must have an overdig of 24” at the bottom of the excavation.
• The drainage system must be in place and functional.
• Corner pins of the foundation must be set with pieces of rebar.
• Crushed stone must cover the entire floor area, and be level to within 1”.
• The builder is to provide bracing materials for the wall system. Various lengths of
2x4 are preferred.
• The builder must be sure that the site is accessible for delivery truck and crane.
Check for mud, sharp turns and hills, bumps, trenches, trees and overhead wires.
(You may be required to provide a tracked vehicle on-site the day your foundation is
set).
Questions And Answers
1. How long have Superior Walls been
in use?
Since 1985, more than 120,000 homes
have been set on a Superior Walls
precast foundation. Advance Concrete has
set more than 30,000 since 1986.
2. Are Superior Walls warranted?
There is a limited manufacturer’s
15-year warranty that covers structural
defects and sidewall water penetration.
3. How does the strength of Superior
Walls compare to block walls?
Superior Walls are stronger than a
conventional block wall. Manufactured with
5,000+psi concrete, combined with top
and bottom bond beam and solid concrete
studs reinforced with rebar.
4. Why isn’t a concrete footer used with
a Superior Walls foundation system?
A concrete footer is not what keeps your
house from settling. The purpose of a
concrete footer is to provide a level,
solid area on which to start laying blocks.
Water can seep under the footer, allowing
hydrostatic pressure to build causing
settling or heaving. The gravel footer
system, promoted by architect Frank Lloyd
Wright, allows water to drain away from
the wall. A site that is properly drained
will not have water penetrating into the
foundation.
5. Is it necessary to damp proof the
wall after installation?
No! The ICC code has determined that
Superior Walls Xi and XI+ walls have been
evaluated as an alternative method of
providing foundation wall damp proofing.
6. What is the insulation value of the XI
walls?
Superior Walls foundations are built with
a layer of Dow® StyrofoamTM, with an
R-value of 12.5 standard. Additional
insulation can be added for a total of
R-50+ (using sprayed-in urethane or rigid
cellular polystyrene insulation).
7. What is the insulation value of the
XI+ Walls?
The XI+ has an R-21.3 insulation value
that includes ½” of Dow® THERMAX
insulation and 4 ½” of rigid foam insulation.
The Xi+ also comes with a four-inch
insulated bottom footer beam.
The 4” standard floor slab may be poured
equal to the height of the footer beam,
eliminating the need for an additional
screed board, saving time and money in
the construction process.
8. Why use a Superior Walls foundation
system instead of one constructed from
block or poured on site?
Superior Walls are warm and dry, en ergy
efficient, custom designed, easy to finish,
can double the living space of your home,
and can increase the value of your home.
They also come with a 15-year limited
manufacturer’s warranty.
9. How long does it take to install the
average foundation?
Our professional certified crews install
most average-size foundations in about
five hours.
10. How long do the walls have to dry
before we can start construction?
By the time your walls reach your
jobsite they are ready to start construction.
Imagine you have your foundation system
set in the morning and begin building your
home in the afternoon!
11. How soon can we backfill after the
walls are installed?
You can begin backfilling as soon as the
floor is poured and the sub floor is
properly attached to the top of the wall.
12. What is the standard length of the
wall panels?
There are no standard length panels.
Lengths are formed to accommodate
door and window openings for com plete
customization.
13. What is the standard height of the
walls?
Our standard heights are 4’, 8’2”, 9’ &10’.
14. Who is responsible for preparing
the site for installation?
You prepare the site prior to delivery
following the IRC Codes and our
guidelines in our “Builder Guideline
Book”, which we provide when you
sign your contract.
15. How are Superior Walls joined
together?
Superior Walls panels are bolted
together at the top and bottom of each
panel and a one-part polyurethane
sealant is used to seal the panel joints
of the foundation system. The one-part
polyurethane sealant is specifically
manufactured for use with precast
concrete products.
16. Will a Superior Walls foundation
system add to the overall value of my
home?
Yes, a Superior Walls foundation can
double the square footage of a single-story
home. And a high performance home that
conserves energy throughout the life of the
home is a very desirable resale feature.
17. Do Superior Walls comply with
building codes?
Yes, the new IRC codes require all
basement walls utilized as part of the
building envelope and unvented crawl
spaces to be insulated. Superior Walls are
manufactured with Dow® Styro foamTM
insulation for XI and Dow® ThermaxTM
for XI+ built in so no extra framing or
insulation is needed.
18. How green are Superior Walls?
Superior Walls has received the National
Green Building Standard (NGBS)
certification, which certifies homes to the
rigorous requirements of the ICC 700
National Green Building Standard
(NGBS) and is the only residential green
building rating system approved by ANSI
as an American National Standard.
Superior Walls is one of the first 25
manufacturers to obtain this certification.
19. What kind of exterior finishes can
be applied to Superior Walls?
Superior Walls panels are produced with
a brushed finish that may be left as is.
They also readily accept multiple exterior
finishes such as paint, stucco, cultured or
manufactured stone, and brick veneer.
