THE
BOTANIC
TREND
The botanic interior trend emerged in public
spaces around Colombo, especially in
restaurants last year. The concept behind the
trend is to become one with nature, where
indoors and outdoors merge. Use of tropical
foliage in prints in the form of wall paper,
wall art and even fabrics mixed with actual
plants to layer the look is what has been
used. This style of interior surfaced in the
west a few years ago and it looks like it’s
here in Sri Lanka, in 2018. This trend can
be extended to homes as well. Rather than
using this style all over the house it’s best
to display it in areas such as feature walls,
selected pieces of furniture, art, accessory
items, again layered with actual plants. For
instance, a wall behind the bed can be wall
papered in a botanic print and the rest of
the walls can carry a muted tone. To complete
the look, actual plants can be brought
into the space.
