distinction.Somyfocuswasontryingtoteachgrammartimeinamoreeficientand<br />
creativeway.ItwasnoteasytoconductresearchasIthoughtandneededconstant<br />
colaborationwiththemoderatorandcriticalfriends.Dr.Smithhelpedmewiththestrategy<br />
ofcreativeapproach,sheandthegrouphelpedmestepbystep.Notonce,butseveral<br />
timesDr.Smithwarnedmetostayfocusedonthemainchalengeofmyresearch:<br />
however,itisinterestingthatyouhaveleftoutthequestionagainaboutthepossibilitiesof<br />
encouragingstudentcreativity.Iremindyouthatthisistheproblem youstartedfrom,and<br />
everythingelseisanimportantaddition,butnottheessenceofyourresearch(from the<br />
researchjournal,April8,2010).Creativeapproachdidnotworkrightaway;ittooksome<br />
timeformetochangemypractice,tounderstandwhatthecreativityinteachingmeans-<br />
nottodecideabouttheactivity,butthestudents.CreativityhadmuchgreaterscopethanI<br />
thoughtandappliedinclass.IknewIhadtobringmorecreativityandrealizedthatitwas<br />
asourceofcreativityinchildren,thatmyjobwascreatingtheconditionsforthereleaseof<br />
creativity.Ihadtolearnhowtoorganizetheteachingprocessthatgivesstudentsthefifth<br />
gradeenoughtime,space,andfreedom tohavetheimaginationandoriginality.Ihadto<br />
learnandthenshowthatthereisnotjustonecorectone.Theansweristhatthereare<br />
manypossiblesolutionsthateveryideaisgoodandvaluable,andespecialyatthisstage<br />
ititisnotimportantiftheymakeamistake.DuringthecorespondencewithDr.Smith,atone<br />
pointrealizedthatIshouldnothaveproblemswithrecognizingandcreatingconditionsfor<br />
thedevelopmentofcreativityinchildren.Irecognizedthem asaparent.Mysonisvery<br />
creative,setsthoughtfulquestions,andIencouragehim torespond.Asachildheusedto<br />
playLegodiceforhours,neverworkingaccordingtothepaintings,ratherthancreating<br />
theirownimaginativecreations.Iwasplanningtoconductasurveyfrom January2009to<br />
May2010oneschoollessonaweek.SoonIrealizedthat45minutes(thelengthofone<br />
schooltime)isnotenough.Weneededablockhour.<br />
Myresearchwasreflexiveandsystematic.However,Iwasquiteflexibleandtherefore<br />
spontaneousandcreative.Spontaneityandcreativityhaveprovidedmewithnewinsights<br />
andideasduringtheprocess.AtfirstIwasawareofonlythreestagesofmyresearchand<br />
Ididnothaveafirm planonhowtointegrategrammarintocreativeactivities.
