CELEBRATING A WONDERFUL<br />
38 YEAR AFFAIR WITH<br />
HOBSON HORSECOACHES<br />
It was 1980, thirty-eight years ago<br />
when Pahiatua based Sue & Brian<br />
Hobson of Hobson Horsecoaches,<br />
first made their foray into supporting<br />
dressage and dressage competitions.<br />
They were both enthusiastic about<br />
the concept of a series based on the<br />
original Beanbah Prix St Georges<br />
circuit prize and from that with their<br />
support and encouragement has<br />
evolved the current Super 5 League.<br />
During this time Sue has been<br />
represented <strong>NZ</strong>L in Australia at FEI<br />
level, has been promoted to an FEI 4*<br />
judge and administratively has held<br />
the role of Event Manager, Finance<br />
Officer and is the current national<br />
Judges Officer on the <strong>Dressage</strong> <strong>NZ</strong><br />
Board.<br />
Brian also has held a number of<br />
roles, more formally as FEI World<br />
Challenge Event Manager and<br />
informally as national sponsor<br />
liaison, MC at many events plus there<br />
were always the bike trips for judges<br />
and officials, and of course the after<br />
parties in a Hobson Horsecoach (a<br />
very clever marketing tool!)<br />
Sue was judging at Hartpury CDI<br />
3* in the UK and could not join the<br />
celebration at the awards dinner, but<br />
it was fitting that the hundred plus<br />
crowd gave Brian a standing ovation<br />
following his reminiscent account of<br />
his involvement.<br />
But although Sue & Brian have<br />
now sold the company the Hobson<br />
Horsecoaches brand will remain<br />
synonymous with <strong>Dressage</strong> <strong>NZ</strong> and<br />
the Super 5 League in the coming<br />
season. Shaun Smith, previous<br />
foreman for the company is the<br />
new owner and will continue the<br />
Hobson Horsecoaches long standing<br />
association with <strong>Dressage</strong> <strong>NZ</strong>.<br />
Welcome to the team Shaun.<br />
A thirty eight year sponsorship<br />
is without doubt extraordinary<br />
commercial partnership with any<br />
sport and although this particular<br />
facet of the partnership has come to<br />
an end, Sue & Brian will remain part<br />
of our team. To just say thank you for<br />
all you have contributed just doesn’t<br />
seem to do it all justice. But it is<br />
heartfelt for being one of the pioneers<br />
is the history of our development.<br />
