Dick (Richard) Drown<br />

(WH 1942)<br />

School in Turi. In 1974, they returned<br />

to the UK and Dick took a job at New<br />

Milton’s Edinburgh House School, now<br />

Ballard School. During his 11 years<br />

there Dick was known for his capable,<br />

calm and gentle leadership.<br />

On his retirement he moved to<br />

Brockenhurst, Hampshire with the<br />

intention of taking things more slowly<br />

but soon became busy supporting<br />

the vicar, and continued to lead a very<br />

full life supporting his community,<br />

bringing care and prayer into<br />

parishioners’ homes.<br />

In May, our Alumni Office received<br />

a response to the Pre-1970s reunion<br />

invitation from our oldest living<br />

alumnus, Dick Drown (WH 1942).<br />

Dick wrote to explain that he was<br />

unable to attend the reunion due to<br />

moving to Kenya in June, to live with<br />

his family out in Nanyuki. At the age of<br />

98, Richard has only recently retired<br />

from his duties as parish minister.<br />

<strong>The</strong> church was full for Dick’s farewell<br />

service which was held in May. We pray<br />

for Dick as he settles in to his new life<br />

and send him our very best wishes.<br />

In 1946 with his new wife Gwyneth,<br />

Dick left to take up the post of chaplain<br />

at King’s College Budo in Uganda.<br />

<strong>The</strong> couple were part of this<br />

prestigious school for 19 years before<br />

moving to Kenya where Dick took on<br />

the role of headmaster of St Andrew’s
