ALL ELEMENTS CONNECTED
“Creativity is contagious, pass it on!” Albert Einstein
Our sixth Urban Nature Culture collection. Time sure does fly
when you’re driven by creativity, captured by so many beautiful
things all around. Things from all across the globe, that we
love sharing with you. Sometimes, we really need to stop and
think. Think of everything that’s happened so far and everything
still to come. Each new collection sets us a new challenge.
In what way can we contribute to making the world a
better place? By focusing on production within Europe, we
make sure nature and the environment is affected less. Next to
that, each collection brings new ways of recycling – honoring
the circular economy. Step by step, we’re on the right track.
The most talented artists use traditional elements - but
express them in different ways.
Urban Nature Culture’s Winter 2018 collection has come to life
carrying all elements we care about. Urban meets Culture
meets Nature is a way of life to us – it’s our way of thinking. It’s
the heritage, the story and history of tradition that meets today’s
ways of sharing beautiful designs, prints and materials. A
glimpse of the past reflecting today’s needs.
We found our inspiration in the many shapes from the Ancient
Greek times. Their stoneware are classic beauties and bare a
timeless design. Back then, the ceramic items were used to
store and safe-keep all certain things, like wine, olive oil and
water, playing a major role in everyday life. One of the three
famous philosophers of that time, Socrates, focused on human
life, often wondering in what way humanity could live as
responsible and conscientious as possible, writing: “Let him
that would move the world, first move himself.” We took that
wisdom and made the Ancient Greek ceramics come to life in
our Portuguese ceramic factory – where each item is made by
hand, in an environmental friendly way.
Diving into history, we found our minds were attracted by a
time not that long ago. The roaring 70’s, with its intense green,
brown and orange colors and materials like velvet, brought
back a lot of memories. We loved giving our own interpretation
to these swinging years, taking us back to times of hairy rugs
and cushions, funky round shapes and geometrical tiles –
where nature-loving hippiedom met high-tech futurism. It was
such a delight to transform all that into items for the present
day.
During one of our inspirational travels, we discovered a workshop
Sashiko, a form of Japanese folk embroidery using
straight or curved geometric designs, stitched in a repeating
pattern. This ancient old technique was practiced by a group of
youngsters, who spent their Sunday afternoon enjoying a nice
cup of tea while stitching. The simplicity, the sense of calmness
and Japanese style caught our attention. The prints we made
for this collection were inspired by that delicate, refined Japanese
way of design – sometimes the beauty is in simplicity.
We couldn’t be more proud. Once again, together with our factories,
craftsmen and designers, we’ve created a brand new
collection – made with love, dedication and respect. We hope
it finds a beautiful place in your home, brightening your everyday.
Enjoy!
