Project Background<br />
<strong>MINARET</strong> has been developed based on the successful implementation<br />
of the Green Neighborhood Development project <strong>in</strong> Sahab Municipality<br />
<strong>in</strong> Jordan, which was implemented by the Royal Scientific Society / National<br />
Energy Research Center (RSS/NERC) <strong>in</strong> cooperation with Future<br />
Pioneers for Empower<strong>in</strong>g Communities (FPEC). This project benefited<br />
the people of Sahab and the municipality by <strong>in</strong>troduc<strong>in</strong>g renewable energy<br />
and energy efficiency technology, as well as awareness and guidance<br />
on practical energy-sav<strong>in</strong>g practices.<br />
<br />
<strong>MINARET</strong> is aligned with the goals of the Regional Strategy for Sweden’s<br />
Development Cooperation <strong>in</strong> the Middle East and North Africa<br />
(MENA). It aims at improv<strong>in</strong>g liv<strong>in</strong>g conditions for people through<br />
“environmental improvement, reduced climate impact and <strong>in</strong>creased<br />
resilience to environmental impacts, climate change and natural disasters.”<br />
<br />
<strong>MINARET</strong>’s activities embrace six of the UN Susta<strong>in</strong>able Development<br />
Goals:<br />
SDG 5- Gender equality;<br />
SDG 6– Clean water and sanitation;<br />
SDG 7- Affordable and clean energy;<br />
SDG 11-Susta<strong>in</strong>able cities and communities;<br />
SDG 13- Climate action;<br />
SDG 17- Partnerships for the goals<br />
