Real Work with Real People See the world from a new perspective with our semester-long study abroad program in Global Development and Social Justice. Travel from Jerusalem to the foothills of the Himalayas, where you’ll examine social and environmental issues through a multidimensional lens. Academic Excellence This interdisciplinary program offers expert instruction in a one-of-a-kind environment, allowing you to connect your hands-on experiences to a deep theoretical foundation. Guided and supervised by HebrewU’s Glocal International Development program, you’ll explore issues such as globalization, poverty, social justice, and climate change – all through the eyes of those most affected. Global Experience 1. Jerusalem Your program begins in Jerusalem, where we’ll lay the groundwork for a thought-provoking semester abroad with an orientation and two introductory courses. Jerusalem is central to various religious traditions and offers a rich culture. 2. Kathmandu Next, you’ll travel to Nepal, starting with two weeks in the capital city. Here, you’ll continue your studies with local experts, while acclimating to the region and learning the Nepali language. With 3 weeks in Israel and 10 weeks in Nepal, you’ll add new layers to your global view of development and social justice with every stop on your journey. HebrewU’s partner in Nepal, Tevel b’Tzedek, will coordinate your program and facilitate your field experience in the local communities. Tevel has been operating community-based sustainable development projects in rural Nepal for over a decade. They have honed a unique model focused on cultivating community and integrating volunteers into a rich intercultural environment. 3. Dhunkharka Your journey will continue with three weeks in the Nepalese village of Dhunkharka, including an orientation to field work and the first half of your service learning. 4. Boudhanath Our mid-semester seminar will bring you to the spiritual center of Boudhanath for reflection and continued studies. 5. Dhunkharka You’ll return to Dhunkharka for three additional weeks to complete the second half of your service learning experience. 6. Pokhara You’ll spend the remainder of your semester in the beautiful city of Pokhara – known as the tourism capital of Nepal – for your concluding seminar and research project.
