[ OUR APPEAL ]
We are appealing for the funding of the
Eastern Cape Performing Arts Institution;
The Eastern Cape Performing Arts
Institution will be an amalgamation of all
the two Theatres (PE Opera House &
EL Guild Theatre) while providing
development and programming at Arts
Centres that the provincial government
has built since 1994 in the Eastern Cape;

[ NATIONAL REFLECTION ]
The Department of Arts and Culture, through
the Arts, Culture and Heritage White Paper of
1996 and the Cultural Institutions Act of 1997,
funds six theatres annually for an amount
exceeding R200,000,000.00 [TWO HUNDRED
MILLION RAND], with each theatre getting an
average of R30,000,000.00 [THIRTY MILLION
RAND] per annum. The six theatres are:
GAUTENG
WESTERN CAPE
KWAZULU NATAL
FREE STATE
Market Theatre, State
Theatre and Windybrow
Artscape
Durban Playhouse
Performing Arts
Company of Free State
DAC has never justified in law why it is not
funding the Eastern Cape.

[ REQUESTED AMOUNT OF MONEY ]
As an equivalent to the benchmark of other
provinces already funded per annum, we
request that the DAC accord us, the Eastern
Cape, the same money and status.
