SIKA-DESIGN 

A PROUD TRADITION OF CRAFTMANSHIP 

Our passion for and understanding of rattan dates back 

decades. We have been around long enough to call 

ourselves Scandinavia’s oldest producer of rattan and 

wicker furniture. 

The story of our company begins in 1942, when Ankjær 

Andreasen produced the first batch of baskets, lamps, 

flower tables and other smaller interior items made 

of rush and willow. In the 1950´s, Ankjær expanded 

his production to include a series of furniture made 

from rattan, and the company Sika-Design was firmly 

established. 

The rattan was imported from the Far East, and Ankjær 

travelled there to purchase the rattan for his wicker 

makers in Denmark. During a trip in 1972, he was so 

impressed by the skilled wicker makers that he decided 

to establish a wicker furniture factory in Malaysia. Since 

then, the Far East has been essential to our production 

of furniture. 

Today, we manufacture our furniture in our own factory 

in Indonesia. Ankjær‘s son, Knud Andreasen, took over 

the company in 1983, however Ankjær continued his 

daily “inspections” until his death in 1997. On my 10th 

birthday, my father allowed me to attend a fair where 

Sika-Design was exhibiting a series of rattan furniture. 

On that day, I knew I wanted to be a part of his company, 

and my passion for rattan furniture began. Since 1996, 

my father and I have worked side by side bringing 

Sika-Design into the new century with great design, 

while never letting go of our strong heritage of great 

craftsmanship. 

Sika-Design respects human rights and complies with 

the SA8000 standard for social accountability, and we 

demand the same commitment from our suppliers. 

Products from Sika-Design are developed and marketed 

in accordance with our management system for 

environment and social responsibility ISO 14001/2004 

and SA8000/2014.

LOUISE ANDREASEN 

(1971 -) 

Louise Andreasen is the 3rd generation to run Sika-Design. She has worked 

side by side with her father Knud since 1995 and took over the ownership 

of the company and role of CEO in 2015. Louise is very conscious about 

inheriting a special company with a strong company culture characterized by 

freedom with responsibility. She is determined to preserve and continue this 

culture created by her father and grandfather. 

Louise has from a very young age been passionate about furniture production 

and interior design. Her strong footprint in the company has been insisting 

on creating furniture in the natural material rattan and educating the market 

and customers about its wonderful qualities. She loves to combine the light 

Scandinavian look with oriental details and materials. Louise adds a feminine 

touch to the decor and seeks to create a cosy ambience with her furniture. 

KNUD ANDREASEN 

(1948 -) 

Knud Andreasen took over his father’s company in 1983. Over three decades, 

Knud has developed a strong worldwide distribution and made solid 

manufacturing partnerships in Indonesia and Malaysia. In 1989 he founded 

Sika Design’s associated company Cane-Line A/S and in 1991, he acquired 

the Danish competitor Horsnæs and merged it with Sika. Knud was a pioneer 

when he introduced the game changing material ArtFibre on the European 

market in the late 1990s. 

Knud has always insisted on great comfort and strength when designing and 

producing furniture. Especially furniture designed for hospitality has been 

one of Knud’s core focus areas. He has always had an eye for practical details 

such as making sure the chairs are stackable. 

ANKJÆR ANDREASEN 

(1911-1997) 

Ankjær Andreasen established the company Sika Møbler in 1942. He was a 

true entrepreneur at heart and had previously run a hotel, created an entire 

housing area and arranged spectacular motorcycle races. He was a man full of 

ideas and imagination. 

In the beginning Ankjær home produced wicker baskets and lampshades and 

small pieces of rattan furniture, but the business quickly grew and in 1951 

he established a cane and rattan manufacturing company on Funen. In 1972, 

Ankjær went on a trip to the far east and when he returned, he had bought a 

piece of land and established a rattan furniture production in Malaysia which 

quickly grew to 150 men.

were all pioneers of their time – they broke new ground when they made 

experimental shapes of the sturdy materials of rattan and wicker and 

created sculptural and timeless icons. 

ARNE JACOBSEN 

(1902-1971) 

Arne Jacobsen, architect and designer. Educated 

at the Royal Danish Academy of fine Arts, 

School of Architecture in Copenhagen. His 

designs are famouse worldwide and his first 

design ever was a rattan chair. 

NANNA & JØRGEN DITZEL 

(1923-2005) (1921-1961) 

Nanna Ditzel graduated in Furniture design 

from The Royal Danish academy of Fine Arts 

in 1946. 

She quickly established her own design studio 

together with her husband Jørgen Ditzel. 

Among her designs are textiles for Kvadrat and 

silverware for Georg Jensen.

FRANCO ALBINI (1905-1977) 

& FRANCA HELG (1920-1989) 

Franco Albini was an Italian Neo-Rationalist 

architect and designer. In 1929 he began his 

professional career working for Gio Ponti. 

Franca Helg was an Italian designer and architect. 

Graduated from the Politecnico di Milano in 

1945, Franca Helg was active both in the field of 

architectural planning and in industrial design, 

with important project interventions often in 

collaboration with Franco Albini, with whom 

she was for long associated professionally, from 

1951 until the death of Albini in 1977. 

VIGGO BOESEN 

(1907-1985) 

Viggo Boesen embarked on rattan furniture 

design combining modernist style with the 

hard wear qualities of the rattan material. Viggo 

Boesen´s FOX chair won a Danish design 

competition in 1936.

ROYAL DANISH WICKER MAKER TO THE CROWN ESTBL. 1854 

R. Wengler was a pioneer in rattan production. 

What he did to the craftsmanship and the way 

he challenged the material, lays the groundwork 

for the way we know rattan furniture today.

With our ICONS Collection we revitalize iconic 

pieces of furniture from some of Europe’s most 

skilled and important architects and designers. 

Arne Jacobsen, Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel, Viggo 

Boesen and Franco Albini were all pioneers of their 

time – they broke new ground when they made 

experimental shapes with the sturdy materials of 

rattan, wicker and created sculptural and timeless 

icons. With great respect and admiration for the 

original designs and in close collaboration with the 

descendants of these renowned furniture makers, we 

are pleased and proud to be able to bring these icons 

back.

The Originals collection is a collection inspired by 

our own design sketches as well as other successful 

models from the 1950’s and 1960’s. I have a great 

dedication to the materials my grandfather and 

his generation chose to work with, and I feel very 

privileged that I have the opportunity to continue 

his legacy. Our skilled workers craft each piece 

of rattan furniture by hand. Rattan grown in the 

Indonesian forests and regenerate within 5-7 years. 

It transforms CO2 into clean air, and it is one of the 

fastest growing materials for furniture production. 

Besides these amazing qualities, rattan is a very 

beautiful natural resource.

LOOM LIVING 

A new interior ColleCtion 

Loom is the name of a unique woven material, 

which consists of a twisted Kraft paper that is partly 

reinforced with steel wire. 

Our Loom furniture is similar to our fine, traditional 

handcrafted rattan furniture, it is smooth to the 

touch, with no sharp joints in the weave, which 

can snag clothing, it does not bend, distort or creak 

when used and it is remarkably strong and durable. 

The frames of all our Loom products are made in 

natural rattan. Actually, Loom furniture was the 

preferred furniture of the restauranteurs, cruise 

liners and even zeppeliners of the 1930’s as this was 

a new revolutionary way to make wicker furniture. 

In the 1990’s this was replaced by synthetic plastic 

weave, but today – as all good things - loom is on the 

return to once again become a beloved and preferred 

choice of furniture.

The Affäire collection is a combination of the 

amazing natural resource, rattan and the fantastic 

man-made synthetic fibre. The frames are made of 

natural rattan. The woven seats, the backs and the 

bindings are all made of ArtFibre. The designs in this 

collection are our own, and some of them date back 

to the 50’ties and 60’ties, and you will find some of 

the same in our Originals collection. 

Affäire is designed for the upper end cafés, brasseries 

and restaurants in historical European cities and 

capitals all over the world. 

Affäire is also an elegant choice for Riviera’s along 

waterfronts all over the world. Our handcrafted 

Affäire café chairs, stools and tables bring you back 

to the atmosphere of Paris café life in the 30’ties.

We are proud to introduce a new collection, which 

is based on a new exciting material that offers 

possibilities and expressions for our existing 

models. 

The new material AluRattan consists of a strong 

aluminium frame woven with ArtFibre. 

The material is maintenance free and can 

withstand all weather conditions. This means that 

original rattan models previously only suitable for 

indoor use now can be used in the garden, on the 

terrace or the balcony.

In 2015, we introduced the collection, Exterior, 

which is based on a new exciting material that 

offers possibilities and expressions for our existing 

models. The new material alu-rattan consists of a 

strong aluminium frame woven with ArtFibre. The 

material is maintenance free and can withstand all 

weather conditions. 

This means that original rattan models previously 

only suitable for indoor use now can be used in the 

garden, on the terrace or the balcony. The first of our 

original models in this collection are the Fox chair 

and the Albini Ottoman.

CharMing design for the garden 

The Georgia Garden collection is inspired by the 

colonial style from the old British colonies. We have 

created the design based on drawings found in old 

books and postcards. 

Georgia Garden is cosy and romantic and the entire 

collection fit perfectly with a garden as backdrop. 

The collection made from ArtFibre is available in 

classic antique.

AVANTGARDE 

ELEGANT SCandinaVian design 

Avantgarde is a collection of furniture designed for 

the exterior living. The collection is hand-woven of 

the maintenance-free and UV-resistant Art-Fibre, 

which is mounted on a stable hot-dipped galvanized 

steel frame. This makes for a piece of furniture that 

can endure all kinds of weather. 

The design is simple and minimalistic with focus 

on seat comfort and functionality. The result is 

solid elegance with an exclusive touch. Although 

the collection is primarily for outdoor use, it is also 

sold for indoor use, as the Scandinavian minimalist 

design fits many homes perfectly.

INTERIOR INSPIRED BY NATURE 

Atmosphere is a feeling, and it can be the feeling of 

a home. With our Atmosphere interior collection – 

we want to create the “hyggelige” atmosphere that 

makes a house a home. 

“Hygge” is pronounced ”hoo-ga,” this Danish 

concept cannot be translated to one single word but 

encompasses a feeling of cozy contentment and wellbeing 

through enjoying the simple things in life. 

Elements like rattan furniture immediately creates 

this atmosphere, but also candle lights, textiles, 

beautiful carpets, scents, baskets and lamps will add 

to this. 

Inspired by nature and different cultures around the 

world combined with our Scandinavian soft and 

light colours we have created this collection. 

Our items are handcrafted with passion and skill, 

and all have a story to tell. 

Sika-Design began with an interior collection in 

1942. Now we have returned to our roots with the 

Atmosphere collection, bringing interior items into 

our offering to surround our furniture collections, to 

create a complete “hyggelig” atmosphere.

Beginning of 2017 we finished the building of our 

new 400 M2 showroom and our new headquarters. 

We are located in Rynkeby, on the island of Funen 

(Fyn), close to the highway and only 90 minutes away 

from Copenhagen airport. 

During our office hours the showroom is always 

open, and everyone is welcome. You may also book 

an appointment with us. 

In our showroom, we display all our collections, 

which is a large portfolio of iconic designs by big 

league designers and architects like Nanna Ditzel, 

Franco Albini and Arne Jacobsen. 

We display our own Interior designs through 3 

generations as well as a large selection of Exterior 

furniture. The showroom is styled with our own 

interiors collection called Atmosphere.

Møbler was established in 1942 by Ankjær Andreasen. He

and in 2013 3rd generation Louise Andreasen became 

the main shareholder in Sika-Design and the legacy has 

continued. Each piece of furniture is still handcrafted with 

the same tradition for craftsmanship, comfort and quality 

that has characterized Sika-Design for the past 70 years.

natural rattan 

Rattan is a natural climbing plant that grows in the Indonesian rainforest. 

Rattan have been known to grow up to a hundred meters long. Rattan 

grows naturally without disturbing the existing structure and balance in 

the rainforest. Rattan is strong, lightweight, flexible, and durable. 

MAINTENANCE: Wash with water mixed with mild soap and remove 

stains with a sponge or medium brush.

Sika-Design ArtFibre®is a fibre made of dyed and hard-wearing 

polyethylene. It is ideal for outdoor use in any climate as it is temperature 

and UV-resistant. The ArtFibre® is flexible and, when woven, provides 

optimal comfort and a structure that is strong and can maintain its shape 

for years on end.

All our aluminium furniture is powder coated. The powder coating 

ensures a surface resistant to knocks and scratches. The furniture is wellsuited 

to be left outside all year long and is easy to clean.

Our Avantgarde collection is very unique due to the fact that the frame is 

actually steel. The steel is specially treated and welded to last for decades. 

The steel frame is hot-dipped galvanized and powder coated. This unique 

steel treatment enables the furniture to stand outside all year long 

enduring all elements of nature.

Sika-Design teak tables are all made from reclaimed teak, coming from 

old houses and ships. Teak is a close-grained hardwood with a high 

natural oil content which gives the teak furniture a beautiful smooth 

surface. Teak furniture is hard wearing and highly resistant to decay and 

almost immune to rain, frost, snow or sun. Our tables and tops is supplied 

untreated and will develop a patina over time.

the wood darker! 

glass tops 

All our glass tops , which are made from 8 mm tempered glass is easy to 

clean and more durable than ordinary glass. Handle with care! A damaged 

edge or scratched surface can in exceptional cases cause the glass to crack 

suddenly. However, never into sharp fragments, only into small pieces. 

Avoid collisions from the side - this is where the glass is most vulnerable

Our artificial contract table tops are easy to maintain because of its 

smooth, scratch free and hygienic surface. These artificial tops are strong 

and stable and they are resistant to all weather conditions. These tops are 

the perfect choice for restaurants and hotels.

Our Italian Tempotest® fabrics are treated with a special type of finishing. 

During the treatment process, the finish is deposited not only on the 

surface of the fabric, but envelopes each individual fibre, forming an 

impenetrable barrier without compromising the fabric’s breathability. 

The HI- Clean finishing makes Tempotest® fabrics water and oil repellent, 

proof against rotting and immune to the formation of mould and fungus.

where we draw on great experience and expertise when we 

decide the shape and characteristics of each cushion. 

Since the 1950´s when Ankjær started his furniture production, 

we have developed customized cushions for all our models in 

our own facilities in Denmark. 

We are also capable of making custom made cushions. So 

if you have a special request or a specific need, feel free to 

ask for your possibilities. We make cushions for interior 

and exterior use. 

Our high-quality upholstery and seat cushions are made to 

order and can be chosen from a broad variety of high quality 

fabrics and styles – even your own choice.
