April 2018
Healthy, Wealthy & Wise!
by Richard Wegman
Once a year we take the opportunity
to share how we did. This year, it'll
happen in a two-step process; in this
article, and at our Annual General Meeting
(AGM) on Thursday, April 19, 2018. In an
effort to not talk about numbers at the
AGM, I will provide an Executive Summary of
Operations for 2017 in the paragraphs that
follow. I want you to know that the numbers
indicate an exciting future for AmSoc.
In 2017, we had many events, which
generated R$753.751 in overall income.
The costs of running the events and the
office, with all supporting communications,
was R$523,606. Our direct donations were
R$88,790 in 2017. Also, we are holding
funds of over R$63.000 for Casa Limiar and
Vivenda da Criança. When they are ready
to start their projects, we will transfer our
donation of funds to them, to help with
the purchase of a new school bus for Casa
Limiar, and building the foundation of their
new school for Vivenda da Criança. So, our
total charitable commitment for 2017 was
R$151,790; the largest in our history. Our
cash reserves remain solid, with an increase
of R$15,355 in 2017, providing us a great
starting place for 2018 activities.
The Board decided in mid-2017 that we
needed to invest in AmSoc infrastructure
if we wanted to stay abreast of technology,
communications, and delivery of membership
events of high quality and value. We upgraded
our office computers and installed our own
internal wifi. These additions have provided
more secure storage of AmSoc files, improved
internet access, and increased the overall
speed and efficiency of our office processes.
We also purchased a new sports trailer, to store
and transport all of our sporting equipment.
The youth sports coaches used to keep the
soccer balls, baseball bats, basketballs, etc. at
their homes, making logistics of equipment
availability a challenge. Now, with the new
sports trailer, everything is available wherever
it’s needed. We want to acknowledge John
Mota, our Athletics Coordinator, for bringing
this idea to AmSoc and following through to
make it happen.
As you can imagine, it is a lot of work to
handle our operations and on-going events.
For taking on these monumental tasks,
please join me in acknowledging our Board
of Governors, office staff, and volunteers.
How? When you see someone who has been a
contributor, go up to them and offer a simple
'thank you'. Smiles go a long way in making
sure people know that they are appreciated.
Lastly, we added 109 new members in 2017.
All of our events have increased significantly
in both attendance and quality. We want
to extend a warm welcome to our newest
AmSoc-family members. Thank you for being
an active part of AmSoc. I look forward to
seeing you all at the AGM for a fun-filled night
and a view of our future.
Sincerely,
Into the Future, Together!
