Nigerians are one of the most travelled people
on earth. Their years of travels have exposed them
to different cultures, as well as quality products
sold in shops in big fashion capitals around the
world.
The desire for quality goods, designer items kept
many Nigerians looking outward. But all that is
changing; as brands like TPS Luxury Bags, is set to
encourage patronage of made in Nigeria goods with
her bespoke, crafted luxury handbags.
Boss of TPS Luxury Bags, Adebowale Odutola,
Princess of the Ife royal family, a lawyer- turned
bag designer, graces our cover today, and talks
about her serial entrepreneurial ventures, the
newest being bag designing. She spoke to Yemisi
Bag Types
Every Woman
Must Have
By - Tope Ojo
How many handbags do you own? How many are stuffed in little hiding
places all around your home? Collecting bags might not be one of your
interests, but there are just certain types of bags every woman should own.
Particular handbags are completely essential; sometimes you have to be
able to grab your things and go, but one bag is just not going to cut it.
Therefore, make sure to stock up on a variety of bags to help you out in
moments of need.
Here
are essential
bag types to have on
hand for every
occasion.
NIGHT OUT BAG
Every woman deserves to have
a fancy bag. Ideally, it should be
one that goes well with almost
any outfit and can stand out on
its own. So make sure to save
up on your dream bag so you
can wear it out on fancy dates,
dinners or any other important
events!
BEACH BAG
You wouldn’t want to
use one of your more
prized possessions as a
beach bag, because
sand ends up going
everywhere and things
just don’t work out. This
is why you should
always have a beach
bag that you turn to.
Just choose one that will
be practical near the
water so you won’t have
to worry about ruining
some of your other
items!
DUFFEL BAG
Duffel bags are
lifesavers when you
are staying
somewhere else
overnight or taking a
short trip. There are
definitely stylish
duffel bags that have
enough space for a
change of clothes
and toiletries. A
good-sized bag will
always come in
handy in the most
unexpected
moments.
CROSS
BODY BAG
When hanging out with
friends, all you need
are your phone, keys
and wallet, you should
always have the option
of a small cross-body
bag. With small
cross-body bags you
feel lighter, happier and
unrestricted.
TOTE BAG
Whether you are
grabbing a few
things from the
mall or just
running other
errands, it is
always
comfortable to
carry around a
basic tote bag.
They are plain,
simple and just
plain practical.
SPORTS BAG
If you are the one
who goes to the
gym almost every
day, it is a good
idea to purchase a
nice sports bag.
You can keep all
of your gym
essentials in there
and just grab it
whenever you
need to.

Pick The Right Bra
The right bra gives your off shoulder the right
fitting. The bra shouldn’t be too small or too
big hence it’ll distract the look by showing
signs of bust spillage or space in the bra.
So ensure you’re wearing the right half bra
which includes size and colour in cases of
transparency.
Rules To Rock
Off Shoulder
Like A Pro
By - Linda Orajekwe
The off shoulder trend is one that
has shown us that it is not ready
to take the back sit on the fashion
scene as nobody seems tired of
flaunting their shoulders. for this
reason, we have to ensure we slay
it right since it’s finding its way
to becoming an essential in most
women’s wardrobe.
While some have done this trend
great justice, others continue to
amaze us as they show us every
time that while they want to flaunt
their shoulders too, they can’t pull
it off like the pros are doing. For
that w have put together these tips
to ensure you an easy rocking off
shoulder journey.
Your Hair Matters!
Be mindful of your hairstyle because it
affects the final result of your off shoulder
look. Dropping your hair will give you
a sexy mature look while packing your
hair up will either give you a classy or
innocent look. So decide your preferred
4look with your hair.
No straps!
Why wear a strapped
bra for an off shoulder
top? That makes
you look confused. If
you’re really busty and
you need straps for
your bra, then opt for
cut-outs or off shoulder
that comes with big
enough traps to
hide your bra.
H&M Kurzes
Off-Shoulder
Let it hold
you right!
Let your elastic or
tailoring be strong
enough to hold still.
You wouldn’t want to
wear an off-shoulder
top or dress and you
spend the whole
day adjusting the
shoulders as you try
to keep it in place, not
good.
Princess
Adebowale
Odutola
- Proudly promoting made in Nigeria
Words By - Yemisi Suleiman
There was a time when high-end foreign luxury bags, were the ultimate objects of desire
of Nigeria’s top class women. This desire also brought an increased demand for local
niche accessories to make a statement. Fulfilling this need, and giving people reasons
to look inwards and patronize Nigeria, is Princess Adebowale Odutola; Founder of The
Potter’s Signature, makers of TPS Luxury handbags. Odutola has been in the forefront of
producing indigenous, high quality, luxury bags in Nigeria, designed using locally sourced
materials. Her use of shapes, crystals, Swarovski, adire, aso Oke, leather, beads and colours, is
unique in the industry; making her products such that can compete favourably with other top
brands anywhere in the world. For her, the sole aim of the TPS brand is for Nigerians to buy
Nigeria, and develop indigenous brands.
She recently, unveiled her latest line of bags, named after outstanding women in Nigeria.
Odutola, daughter of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Sijuwade, talks about her work and family life.
How did TPS Luxury come to be, what
inspired it?
It began out of my love and passion for
fashion. I just love fashion. Some time ago,
somebody gave me a bag made out of Ankara;
until then, I had never seen ankara bag. The bag
was beautiful, but it was not well made. At that
time, I was into Real Estate which was collapsing
at the time. So I thought to myself that, I could do
better with the Ankara bags because I am a very
creative person, and I love to work with my hands.
So I brought out my scarves first, then my mother
gave me thirty six wrappers to start with. I never
tied them, I just started cutting to make bags and
that was how it all began. And like I always tell
people, you must have a passion for what you are
doing. I think what has driven me this far, is the
passion I have for fashion. No matter how simple I
dress, I get noticed, somebody will notice
something that is so unusual. I have been able to
put that into practice and put it to good use for my
products. So, every of my design is independent
of the other, they do not look alike. Now we have
21 lines, named after Nigerian women, and we
are still going.
How has the business evolved from when you
started?
I started in 2013, but got established in 2014.
So, we were five years on July 14th this year and
we have won two awards so far. Within seven
months in 2017, this brand won two awards for its
contributions to the fashion industry: I won the
President’s Special Recognition Award from
Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria
(FADAN), I also won the Best Emerging Fashion
Brand Award at the 2017 Accessories Council
Excellence (ACE) Awards by Bella Africana. So
two awards in seven months, I think we are doing
well, and we are hoping to do better.
What has been the response of Nigerians to
TPS Luxury bags?
For me, Nigerians are beginning to appreciate
what we have if they know the quality. Right now,
when anybody faces a direction, everybody is
facing that direction. There are so many bags now
in the country, everybody and anybody wants to
do bags. But, please, there must be good
finishing. Let us have international standard bags;
bags that can sit well on the shelves of
international brands, and not just any bag. And
because it is Made-in-Nigeria, doesn’t make it
cheap; people need to have that at the back of
their minds: because, there is no part of these
bags that is imported. Most of the hardware are
sourced at the local markets. Our leather has
been taken out, processed and returned to
Mushin Market. I think with the recession, a lot of
people are beginning to appreciate what we have.
I see a lot of people wearing Ankara now. I carry
my bags with so much poise, elegance and
glamour. I am proud of my African print, I am
proud of my heritage. So far so good, those who
buy the $3,000 and £2,800 bags, also buy my
bags. And because they are not mass produced
but are bespoke, they are limited editions and
they are not for everybody. So those who can
afford them buy them.
Tell us about your new collection and why
they are named after certain women?
For this new season, we have the Oludolapo
Osinbajo bags, we call them the OO design. They
are simple, classy and timeless like the woman
herself. The bags say a lot about her.
We also have our rainbow collection, called the
AO design. It means Atinuke Onoiga. The
rainbow designs are hand beaded. We have
Ndidi Obioha as well; they are beautiful and also
embellished with pearls, leather and fabric. The
rainbow collections are the new hardware that
even the big brands are using. We also have the
Dame Abimbola Fashola bag, which is the new,
fully beaded design. They are not in the hardware,
but they are fully beaded brand.
We have Dr Modupe Erele; she is Nigeria’s
Ambassador to France. She recently hosted
Nigerian cultural extravaganza in France where
lots of Nigerians went to exhibit their wares, and
TPS luxury was there as well. It was a lot of
exposure and she supports made in Nigeria
products that’s why the collection was named
after her. Now, Ndidi Obioha is a celebrity event
planner. She is one woman I really respect and
admire. She has helped a lot of women in the
country in different ways as well. The bag is fully
embellished and classy, just like its name. Ndidi
Obioha is fully embellished, in wisdom, talent and
fully gifted. I named the bags to suit personalities.
I noticed that Erelu is always in one form of aso
oke, or the other. Her style is simple and elegant,
that is how the bags are. We remain the
connoisseur of elegance, celebrating the Nigerian
woman. Now, we have enough classics, and our
NAPC certificate. We are ready for export.
Talking about export, would you say the
government is doing enough to help local
brands export their products?
I think the government has put in place
machinery for us to be able to export. It is left for
manufacturers to go and get a certificate from
NAPC. For instance, with Walmart, there are a
few things to be done; you need some licenses
and a broker. I believe we will get there someday,
because with the 2015 Executive order, which
amongst other things supports local content, it is
definitely moving us towards export in this
country. Soon, we will see made in Nigeria
products on every shelf which is the ultimate aim.
We can’t keep them here where we made them;
it is for the international market. Investors will
come and buy into the business someday. I know
and strongly believe that Nigerian brands will take
over the world someday.
With many bag makers in Nigeria now, what
stands your brand out from the rest?
We are fully embellished. The details of our
bags are of international standards, and there is
attention to every stitching. When you walk past
the store and something glitters, you want to go
back to it. So the embellishments are different,
and they are not the regular shapes of bags. We
have carved a niche for our bags to stand out.
People ask if we produce here, yes we do. I have
my machines here in Victoria Island, my guys are
here working 24 hours, and I can get on the
machine at any time. I do the designs and
finishing myself.
What inspires your designs?
My designs are inspired by God and humanity.
When I say humanity, I mean that when I go out
and I see your bag and the way you carry it so
beautifully, it inspires me and I am always so
eager to go home and sketch. At times, I sketch
in the car. I sketch on anything. Other times, I get
inspiration when I sleep, while at other times, I
Let us encourage
Made-in-Nigeria,
and let the
government
encourage
entrepreneurs.
look at designs on the internet and then modify
them by subtracting and adding. So it is about my
instinct and my mind set at every point that brings
about my designs. It is not just about talent or
academic acquisition, because I do not have any
academic acquisition on fashion. I don’t know
how I do it. Even when I was in school as an
undergraduate, I had tailors that were making my
own designs. If you and I buy the same shirt, the
next day, mine would be looking different from
yours because, I would have added stones or
something that will make it just different. So, I
think it is just about me. I like fashion and I like to
be different.
What is TPS Luxury and is it all about bags
alone?
TPS means The Porter’s Signature. We are
now TPS Luxury because we now go beyond the
bags: we now do home and style, footwear
accessories and anything that is used as an
accessory at home. There is really nothing we
cannot do with Ankara, ranging from curtains,
bed covers, chairs, dining set, table covers, and
many other household accessories. We just
launched some new TPS Luxury products. They
are bespoke, luxurious and handmade, and I
make them all from the floor of my house here in
Victoria Island, Lagos. This is not from China and
every material here has been locally sourced in
Mushin and Balogun markets.
Initially, I was bringing them in from Australia;
but later, I found out that they were cheaper in
Lagos. My Ankaras are from Balogun but I make
sure I take the veritable wax, for sustainability,
durability and for the theme. I do not just want a
design, but a design that carries a theme.
The collection is a celebration of the best of
Nigeria and great personalities that speak to the
essence of our brand, TPS Luxury. I am proudly
Nigerian, that is why I love to work with the
Ankara, Adire and Aso Oke fabrics. We are
proudly Nigerian, and proudly African.
Tell us a bit about your educational
background?
I studied Political Science and later Law, but I
never practiced. For me, Law was boring. I
studied Law to have an idea, and to know my
right from left. I was a Realtor for a long time. I
practiced Real Estate and with my knowledge of
law, I practiced well and excelled in Real Estate.
However, when the industry nosedived, I thought
of what to do to make everyday money. I thought
of opening a restaurant because I love to cook, I
thought of opening an Amala joint because I love
to make amala, and with food, you tend to make
a lot of friends. I eventually did. I used to have an
amala joint at Bar Beach; it was called “Wuraola
Omo Oba”-my name and title as a Princess. We
used to deliver to offices on the island, and it was
really booming.
I am still going to make amala, and it will not
distract me from my bags.
What was growing up like for you?
I am number 16 of 17 children, the last girl in
the family. There is just one male behind me. I
grew up in so much luxury. Of course, we went to
school in Mercedes Benz. As the last girl in the
family, my father doted so much on me.
My mother is from Niger State, she is Muslim
while my father was a Christian. So growing up
was fun. We had a fantastic upbringing and
pedigree. I enjoyed my growing up and I am still
enjoying myself.
What do you miss about your father?
I miss the envelopes of money he always
gave me. I miss the love and everything about
him. My mother is still alive, she is in her 90s.
So what lessons, have you learned about life?
To be focused, and be patient. I have learned
to be very patient. If I am not patient, I might not
be able to continue this business because it is not
the kind of business that is going to bring you
huge amount of money at a time. It comes in
trickles, somebody might buy a bag today, you
might not get anyone to buy in the next two
weeks, but it does not stop your production. You
keep producing, you keep ordering hardware,
you keep stocking on leather, on everything you
need to use. But if you are not patient, you
cannot persist, you cannot continue.
I want to say also that if you are a woman, do
not stay in the house and be a house wife.
Whatever you know how to do, even if it is
chin-chin, do it well. Someday, it is going to grow.
I started this business not just as a passion, but
because I needed to do it. I am a bag freak, I
travel a lot and I buy bags a lot. So when I started
this business, I said I was going to create bags
that were remarkable, and ones that people will
buy. So whatever you know how to do as a
woman, just do it well, do it diligently and put your
whole heart to it. Let us encourage Made-in-
Nigeria, and let the government encourage
entrepreneurs by providing a working
environment that is conducive, and where
entrepreneur thrives.

Midi skirts, pencil skirts or pleated skirts,
whatever the shape or design, there’s no
denying the allure of one of the most basic
staples of the female wardrobe.
Whether you dress them up with heels or just
pair them with a casual blouse and jacket, it’s
impossible to go wrong with these versatile
garments.
However, it can be difficult to choose skirts
that look good on a certain body shape.
So, here’s a guide to help you pick out skirt
styles that look best on your body.
is your best bet. It
will make you look
great. These skirts
mask the belly
bulge pretty well,
but remember to
choose skirts with a
If you’re an hourglass; curvy, with
a well-defined waist, you will look
fantastic in pencil skirts. This is
because, pencil skirt accentuates
your curves, smoothing out thighs.
If your hips are the
widest part of your
body, you will look
fantastic in Midi skirts.
They highlights the
smallest part of your
waist, and flares out
over hips, minimizing
the width of your
bottom half. A midi
skirt is the most
complementary fit for
When Vagina Matters More
Vagina canal is elastic hence the conduct will
elongate, while the mucosa will secrete
lubricating fluids during sexual arousal. This
causes the vaginal wall to be softer, and the
muscles will relax for easy penetration at the
start of copulation, and returns to its original
shape and size after intimacy is over.
Biologically, size does not matter as some
women prefer their spouse’s penis to be long,
while others prefer it thick. Elasticity and
lubrication makes vagina adaptable and
capable of accepting different penis sizes.
Although it might need extra preparation at
times, this elasticity is for a good course, as it
needs to stretch immensely from 3.6 inches
that is 7.6cm for child delivery, which is the
length of the vagina when it is not aroused.
Majority of the nerve endings are found
close to the entrance of the vagina, and this
gives pleasurable sensations during love
making. This is partly responsible for making
child birth less painful. Notwithstanding how
much it is stretched, it remains the same.
Hence, the size of manhood may not be
fundamental for a vagina that encloses around
it. The strength to get to most of the nerve
ending through a particular sex position, may
have a role to play in female sexual
satisfaction.
Orgasm in most women is not as a result of
what the penis does in the vagina. Rather, it is
due to the external clitoral stimulation, from
fingering during the act, lips and tongue during
oral sex, including the different body parts
during intercourse, such as the base of the
manhood, stomach and others. Hence, a small
size penis cannot affect clitoral stimulation.
Quite a number of ladies can actually
achieve orgasm through vagina penetration,
while 25 percent of them are able to
experience frequent orgasm through vaginal
stimulation. Studies have suggested that up to
80 percent of women need clitoral stimulation
to achieve orgasm. This brings us back to the
question of penis size which we have seen so
far, has no involvement in clitoral stimulation.
Thus, one can comfortably say that up to 80
percent of women attain sexual pleasures
irrespective of their spouses size of penis; since
the key to satisfaction is not from the penis, but
from the entire act which include direct
stimulation –use of fingers, tongue, lips and sex
toys. On the other hand, size of the man’s
organ may only matter if the woman takes
delight in having her cervix stimulated during
copulation. But this will not likely lead to
orgasm.
Certain exercises like Kegel, help to tighten
the vagina for any penis. It helps to tone the
vaginal muscles to improve sexual functions.
This exercise should be practiced regularly until
you can grip your smallest finger strongly with
the vagina. This can also be done even during
love making especially, as it can make the
vagina to accept any size of the penis thereby
adding extra tonic to intercourse.
For the girth, the strength of the erection
could be a factor; in which case, a well erect/
hard manhood will be more important than a
large, soft penis. In reality, men are expected to
have more skill and practice in other sexual
activity, than depending on only penetrative
vaginal sex. What this means is for you to
spend enough time on foreplay, ensure she
achieves orgasm at least once prior to even
talking about the size of your penis.
Size for men is overestimated; a big organ
will definitely, not by itself, make a good lover
as any woman will go for a guy who is good at
cunnilingus over a guy that is well endowed but
will not go downward on them.
Most ladies are not keen about sizes when
they are crazily in love with their guys. For
these women, communication is most
important. This is one skill that you must
develop in your daily work not just in the
bedroom. You need to be a good listener and
learn about your spouse, her likes and dislikes,
what she is comfortable with, what she is not
comfortable with, and whether to go fast or
slow, the list is endless.
Note that on the final analysis, it is not about
size, it is how the man uses it that really matters
the most.
Healthy
Nails At Your
Fingertips
The nails are appendages of the skin and are made of
hard keratin which is a protein that acts as protection
for the tips of the fingers and toes. This protein is the
same as that found in Hair. The nails are dead tissue so
they have no nervous or blood supply and function to
protect the living nail bed and nail matrix. The nail bed
is the visible tissue seen beneath the nail itself while the
matrix is where the nail is formed, below the cuticle.
Your nails may indicate how healthy you are and
anaemia, jaundice, nutritional deficiency and poor
circulation may show through them. Fungal and
Bacterial Nail infections may also occur. In addition,
nails may reflect the presence of systemic illness.
Fungal Nail Infections
Nail fungal infections are mostly caused by a fungus
that belongs to a group of fungi called dermatophytes.
Yeasts and molds may also cause fungal infections. All
of these micro-organisms thrive in warm, moist
environments such as swimming pools and shower
floors and can gain access to the skin through tiny
abrasions or cuts. They can also gain entry through
damaged or already infected nails. The medical term
for fungal nail infections is Onychomycosis.
Fungal nail infections usually start as a white or yellow
spot under the tip of the fingernail or toenail. As it
spreads, it may lead to discoloration, thickening and
crumbling at the edges. Fungal nail infections are
responsible for about half of all nail disorders and
usually develop on nails that are repeatedly exposed to
damp environments such as bathroom floors or sweaty
shoes. These infections are usually difficult to treat and
tend to recur. Fortunately there is medication available
to permanently clear up nail fungus
Fungal infections are more common in the toenails
than the fingernails since the toes are essentially
confined to the damp, dark and warm interior of shoes,
a conducive environment for fungi to thrive. These
infections are more common in older adults as the nail
growth rate is much slower and nails tend to be thicker.
Infections are also more common in men and
individuals with a positive family history of this.
Factors that increase the risk of developing these
infections include excessive sweating, smoking,
working in damp or humid environments, artificial nail
use, wearing socks and shoes that don’t absorb sweat
and are not ventilated, walking barefoot in damp
places such as gyms, shower rooms and swimming
pools.
Diabetics, individuals with circulation problems
and persons with depressed immunity are also
susceptible. Affected nails may be thickened,
discoloured green, black or brown, flat, dull, distorted
in shape and brittle or crumbly. The affected nail may
also loosen from the nail bed and there may be
associated pain and an offensive odour. The best time
to start treatment is as soon as it starts. If left
untreated, the infection could spread beyond the nails
and become secondarily infected. In diabetics and the
immunocompromised, a fungal nail infection may lead
to an open ulcer that is difficult to heal.
Once you suspect this infection, you should see
your doctor for a definitive diagnosis and treatment
regimen. The doctor may scrape some of the debris
under the infected nail for analysis to determine the
best course of treatment.
Nail fungus is difficult to treat and over the counter
antifungal creams and ointments are not very effective.
Prescription antifungal agents commonly prescribed
include Terbinafine (Lamisil), Itraconazole (Sporanx)
and Topical Ciclopirox (Penlac). If infection is severe,
the nail may have to be removed to allow new nail
growth. The systemic antifungal agents are typically
taken for 6 to 12 weeks but visible improvement may
take up to a year which is the time taken for the
infected, damaged nail to grow out. These agents may
cause side effects such as liver damage, skin rashes,
and photosensitivity and should not be given to
individuals with liver disease or heart failure. Liver
function tests should be performed before and during
treatment.
Topical antifungals may be prescribed in mild to
moderate infections. Penlac nail lacquer is
usually the treatment of choice. It is painted
onto the affected nail and surrounding skin
once a day for about one year. Research has
found an unsatisfactory 10% cure rate with
this treatment. Other topical treatments
include Oxiconazole (Oxistat) or Econazole
nitrate (Spectazole).
Fluconazole (Diflucan) is useful for the
treatment of nail infections caused by yeast.
Laser treatments are available for the
treatment of Fungal Nail infections and are
very effective.
To Keep Your Tips Fungus
Free:
• Wear absorbent cotton socks
• Keep nails short, clean and dry
• Wear rubber gloves when doing household
chores
• Use an antifungal spray or powder on feet
before wearing shoes
• Avoid damaging skin around the nails
(cuticles)
• Avoid going barefoot in public showers,
pools and gyms
• Make sure your manicurist sterilizes
instruments
• Make sure you wash hands after touching
an infected nail as this infection is
contagious
• If you have an infection, avoid artificial nail
and nail polish use as these can worsen the
condition by trapping moisture.
Gbemisola Ope
By - Jemi Ekunkunbor
Gbemisola Ope is an Events Manager with over 15 years’ experience:
one of Nigeria’s top event planners, she is also the president of
Association of Professional Party Organizers and Event Managers of
Nigeria (APPOEMN).
A product of the prestigious Queens College, Yaba, Lagos, she also studied
Interdisciplinary Studies and Communicaions at the University of Houston
Texas. Gbemisola started her professional and business experience with
Adex Advertising (Chicago, Illinois) as a Public Relations Associate, moved
on to First Data Corporation (Houston, Texas) as Senior Customer Service
Representative, as well as a Customer Service Corporate Trainer. She went on
to join Trafalgar Energy Holding LLC (Houston, Texas) as a Human Resources
Consultant before relocating to the United Kingdom to join City & Guilds
(London, United Kingdom) as a Human Resouce co-coordinator.
She relocated finally to Nigeria where she setup Omega Events. Over the
years, she has successfully handled seminars, end of year parties, product
launches for private individuals and corporate organizations.
She was recently, named one of the top 50 event planners in Africa by the
Dubai Tourism.
Ahead of APPOEMN’s forth coming annual awards night billed for September
30, in Lagos, Allure spoke with Gbemisola on the up-coming event and more.
Why did it become necessary to set up
APPOEMN?
Events have always been a part of our
culture; but in the recent past, it has received
a sudden boost. This is also evidenced by the
increase in the coverage received from the
print and social media, hence the need for an
association.
The mission of the association is to educate,
advance, network and promote the events
industry and its network of professionals
along with related industries. We seek to
become a Chartered Council with the sole
responsibility to regulate the practice of the
event management, associated industries and
professionals in Nigeria. The association also
aims to give security, peace of mind to clients
that our event professionals are certified,
14
/ September 16, 2018
monitored and accredited by the association to
provide excellent service.
In what way has APPOEMN benefitted its
members?
The benefits of being a member of the
association are; education, exposure through
networking, general events assistance, problem
solving through in- house arbitration and
promoting the events industry just to mention a
few.
Recently, you started the awards night.
Why did it become necessary?
The event industry has individuals with
amazing skills and talents. Unfortunately no one
knows that or recognizes that at the moment;
so who best to appreciate and reward excellence
but the association? There is nothing as good
as being given a pat on the back for a job well
done. I am happy to say the feedback has been
amazing. This year, we have included our
colleagues outside Lagos.
How do you select those nominated for
the awards?
There is an awards committee who does that
through strict guidelines. In addition to that,
we also involve the general public through our
Instagram page and the board of APPOEMN
monitors as well.
What plans do you have for this year’s
award?
The only change in the awards this year
is the inclusion of colleagues outside Lagos.
This was based on feedback from last year
and the fact that the industry is growing and
expanding. Our colleagues outside Lagos
are as good as those in Lagos and need to be
acknowledged as well.
Are there programmes put in place for
training of members?
Yes, we have weekly trainings via Whatsapp,
and we have quarterly trainings that require
physical attention.
As an event planner, which of the
vendors are key to an enjoyable party?
It depends, every party is different but music
and food are key.
What are the trends in event planning
now?
The trends in event planning are themed
events and collaboration. Clients both social
and corporate are stepping out of the box now,
so event professionals are on their feet now,
coming up with concepts and collaborating
with other colleagues to achieve the client’s
wants.
How is life in event planning?
For me, it has been wonderful. I would
change it.

MOMENTS
With Yemisi Suleiman
In case you missed, these were the most interesting stories and pictures
on Instagram last week, as posted by your favorite celebrities.
Beverly Osu’s
controversial outfit
The most controversial issue on Instagram
last week, was this picture of actress, Beverly
Osu clothed in a Catholic Nun’s outfit, for a cover
photoshoot edition for Taylor Live Ng online
magazine. The photo generated a heated debate
among fans of the actress who who felt Beverly
weeaing the outfit while smoking a cigarette, was
a slight on the Catholic faith. While some do not
see anything wrong with it as it’s just a photoshoot,
others are of the opinion that the basic Nun’s
uniform and habits is supposed to define modesty,
and not right for anyone portraying it otherwise .
We love this beautiful picture of Powede
enjoyed VVIP treatments of the best Paris has
Genevieve Nnaji returns
with a bang
If you were wondering before now, where your
favourite Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji has
been; well, the A-list actress is definitely very much
around, working in the background. The actress and
now, Director, recently, took Nollywood to world level
with her movie, The Lion Heart. The movie which
is her directorial debut as a filmmaker, makes the
first Netflix (an American over-the-top media services
provider) original film from Nigeria, to be bought by
Netflix. The Lion Heart which recently premiered at
the Toronto film festival, according to Genevieve, is
outstanding because of the authenticity of the story,
and it provided an opportunity for her to showcase
things that made her proud of our traditions, talents
values, and culture as a people. The actress posted
an appreciation message on her handle to her
support system, for the success so far.
“A big thank you to everyone who attended The
Lion Heart premiere. My wonderful co star Nkem
Owoh; the entire cast and crew, tiff net , my publicist
and management, my glam team, the press, our
guests and audience; my family and friends. To
everyone whose love and support I felt so strongly
from far away, I can’t thank you enough. My love for
you knows no bounds. God bless you.”
