American Citizen Services
by Consular Staff
The U.S. Consulate General in São Paulo
assists American citizens traveling or
living in the states of São Paulo, Paraná,
and Mato Grosso do Sul.
CONSULATE CORNER
The American Citizen Services Unit within the
Consular Section provides non-emergency
services such as the issuance of U.S. passports,
reports of birth and death of American
citizens abroad, notarization of documents
for use in the United States, and voting
information. Appointments are required for
non-emergency services. You may schedule
an appointment online at brazil.usembassy.
gov/service.html. There is no fee to schedule
an appointment. Please be aware that ACS
services have different appointment times.
You must select an appointment for the
specific service requested.
American citizens are welcome to contact the
consulate at (11) 3250-5000 (and pressing “3”
at the recording) during our public inquiry
hours of 1 p.m.–2 p.m. Monday-Friday or via
email to SaoPauloACS@state.gov for more
information on these services.
American citizens may also report emergencies
via telephone at (11) 3250-5000 (and pressing
“3” at the recording) during normal business
hours, Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. After hours and during the weekend
and holidays, American citizens may report
extreme emergencies (such as the death,
arrest, disappearance, destitution, or violent
crime involving an American citizen) to the
consulate at (11) 3250-5373. Please note we are
not able to issue passports outside of normal
business hours.
Although the registration of U.S. citizens is not
mandatory, registration through the Smart
Traveler Enrollment Program is recommended
by the consulate. U.S. citizens may enroll online
at step.state.gov/step, which will assist consular
officers in trying to locate the citizen in case of
emergency. U.S. citizens will also receive any
travel warnings or security announcements the
consulate releases by enrolling in the program.
Payment for all Consular services can be made
in U.S. dollars, Brazilian reais, or international
credit card. Checks are not accepted. The
consulate is closed on all American holidays
and most Brazilian holidays (br.usembassy.
gov/holiday-calendar). §
