Who we are<br />

Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP) is dedicated to increasing<br />

the health and happiness of residents in Somerset through physical activity<br />

and sport.<br />

SASP is a charitable trust and a member of the nation-wide network of 43<br />

County Sports Partnerships (CSPs), sharing a mission of transforming lives<br />

through sport and physical activity. Each CSP is independent, governed by a<br />

Board of Trustees and funded through Sport England, and grant giving<br />

bodies, companies and individuals whom share their mission.<br />

School Support<br />

SASP have a dedicated <strong>Primary</strong> PE Specialist Team committed to providing<br />

advice and support to primary schools across Somerset. We offer bespoke<br />

curriculum support and are keen to help support schools whatever their<br />

requirements. We have a PE and Sport Premium Lead Officer who can offer<br />

advice and guidance regarding how to use the PE and sport premium to make<br />

additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE and sport<br />

you offer.<br />

SASP are working in partnership with Create Development to deliver<br />

fantastic opportunities and support across the County and to create positive<br />

relationships with physical activity for life.<br />

Create's innovative training and resources support primary schools, families<br />

and communities to transform the culture of physical activity. Their unique,<br />

inclusive approaches create habits and develop essential behaviours,<br />

physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills in EVERY child.<br />

Fundamentals of School<br />

Swimming<br />

Once qualified the holder of the Swim England/NCTP Fundamentals of School<br />

Swimming (formerly Module 1) will be equipped to actively assist and/or<br />

support a more qualified teacher in the teaching of a range of core aquatic<br />

skills to a small group of similar ability within the context of a school swimming<br />

programme. This course is for teachers and teaching assistants.<br />

real PE Day EYFS &<br />

KS1 Training<br />

real PE is a unique child centered approach that transforms how we teach PE<br />

to engage and challenge every child. It provides fun and simple to follow<br />

<strong>Primary</strong> PE Schemes of Work and support for Early Years Foundation Stage<br />

and Key Stage 1. practitioners that give them the confidence and skills to<br />

deliver outstanding PE. It is fully aligned to the National Curriculum and<br />

Ofsted requirements and focuses on the development of agility, balance and<br />

coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning.<br />

*this training takes place for 3 days over an academic year, day 2 and 3 TBC.


eal gym<br />

real gym is an innovative, vibrant, inclusive programme which supports<br />

teachers to become confident to deliver gymnastic activities. real gym<br />

develops Fundamental Movement Skills via gymnastic activities allowing<br />

every child to stretch themselves. The one day training course also includes<br />

Schemes of Work interactive lesson plans for your year group, 35 real gym<br />

key skills cards, creative dice and themed posters.<br />

real PE webinar<br />

update<br />

Simplifying, streamlining and elevating your real PE experience using Jasmine -<br />

the new <strong>Primary</strong> PE digital platform.<br />

This webinar will help you to understand more about how teachers can use<br />

Jasmine as not just a planning tool but a learning aid. Find out more about how<br />

pupils can internact with it and how to use it to bring lessons to life for the<br />

children in a fun and creative way. Your questions answered about Jasmine!


River Bear Yoga<br />

The training covers why yoga, play and mindfulness is a proven way to help<br />

children with their mental and physical health. The training manual offers many<br />

ways to create lesson plans. So you can tailor make classes for whatever time is<br />

available to you on any given day. From a 10 minute energy boost or calm down<br />

to a 55 minute PE session or after school club, it’s all covered! The workshop is<br />

priced at £75 per person. You will learn:<br />

• 5 breathing exercises<br />

• 20 yoga poses<br />

• 20 yoga and drama/play games<br />

• 5 mindfulness meditations<br />

Plus many more ways to bring mindful contemplation and mental health wellbeing<br />

into the classroom.<br />

Free Introduction<br />

to real PE<br />

Open to all head teachers and PE leads to come and hear about our exciting<br />

partnership with Create Development who have worked with over 4500<br />

schools, including over 100 in Somerset to increase staff confidence to deliver<br />

outstanding PE and pupil enjoyment through their nationally recognised real<br />

PE programme. A chance to discuss how this programme can have an impact<br />

in your school and is a sustainable use of your PE and Sport Premium.


eal PE Day 1<br />

Training: New Staff<br />

For all teachers who are new to real PE schools or were not present at your<br />

original whole school training. The course focuses on using the real PE<br />

resources and implementing the real PE philosophies. Teachers will have<br />

time to share concerns, have their questions answered, take part in<br />

showcase lessons, as well as plan for future delivery.<br />

Sport Conference<br />

'Putting PE at the heart of the school' - this year's<br />

conference will focus on ''making the most of<br />

your PE and Sport Premium' whilst including<br />

ideas and activities for increasing activity level,<br />

improving children;s wellbeing and raising<br />

achievement. An exciting day is planned to<br />

include time for sharing ideas and good practice,<br />

meeting support providers, discussing case<br />

studies and new innovations and taking part in<br />

fun and inspiring practicals.

Swimming & Aquatic Skills<br />

of School Swimming<br />

Once qualified the holder of the asa/NCTP Fundamentals of school<br />

swimming & Aquatic Skills of School Swimming (formerly Module 2) will be<br />

equipped with the skills to plan and evaluate a programme designed to meet<br />

the swimming component of the NC and to teach, without supervision, a<br />

range of skills to groups within the context of a school swimming<br />

programme.<br />
