Parents of children ages 2.9 through 6 years old are encouraged to bring their child to explore the school and learn about our program. Applications are being accepted for 5-day morning, 2-day morning, 3-day morning preschool program or 5-day afternoon Pre-K program. We also offer a full-day option (8:30 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.) for 4-6-year-olds who will be transitioning to a kindergarten program the following year. Innovative and progressive, the school is NAEYC accredited and well known in the community for an inspiring preschool experience. Dean Children’s Center is a lab school for ECE majors, with teachers-in-training alongside credentialed teachers. The center has a very professional and caring environment for children to learn through exploration. The school uses a developmental approach to education which reflects current research in child development and peer conflict resolution. Dean College Children’s Center is located at 144 School Dean College Presents: Footloose, the Musical, November 14-18th The School of the Arts at Dean College will perform Footloose, the Musical, beginning Wednesday, November 14 through Sunday, November 18, 2018. Based on the 1984 screen version, Footloose is an explosive musical that has come to the stage with thrilling results. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to the rural town of Bomont, he is not prepared for the strict religious local edicts, which include a total ban on dancing. Ren breaks all the rules in trying to restore dance to the heart of a community held back by lingering memories of a tragedy. In addition to the original film score’s songs, such as “Let’s Hear it for the Boy,” “Holding out for a Hero,” and the title song, “Footloose,” dynamic new songs written specifically for the stage production are sure to get you to Doing Great Things for the Great War: Armistice Day and the Hopedale Sewing Circle Sunday, November 11, 2018, at 3:00 p.m On November 11, 1918, Hopedale celebrated the end of the Great War in an interesting way. An effigy of Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany was hanged near the Draper Corporation main office, but this was not a celebration. “Funeral services were then held, the band playing a dirge,” the Milford Gazette noted. Hopedale had lost six men during this war, plus over a dozen residents who had died in the flu pandemic, which was just starting to abate. The town was in no mood to smile. Hopedale’s history of joining the armed services dates back to the Civil War, and during World War I the Hopedale Sewing Circle took the task of supporting the soldiers seriously. They began volunteering for the Red Cross even before the United States entered the war, sewing and raising money for war refugees as early as fall, 1914. By spring of 1918, the list of surgical dressings and other medical supplies the women created comes to over 11,000 items. By the time the war ended, they had ripped, stitched, and knitted for the troops, raising money and awareness, and even supported an honor roll and carefully vetting the names “to be sure not one of our boys were omitted.” Join historian Linda Hixon of the Hopedale Women’s History Project on the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day to learn about your feet!
