Page 8 Natick Local Town Pages www.localtownpages.com November 2018 Keefe Tech Senior to Be Featured on CBS for Award-Winning App Keefe Regional Technical School senior Daniel Quackenbush of Framingham was recently interviewed by WBZ CBS Channel 4’s Kate Merrill about his award-winning “What The Fish” app. Quackenbush, a student in Keefe’s Programming and Web Development CTE program, created and developed the app in his Entrepreneurship class during the 2017-2018 school year. He presented his concept at the NFTE New England Regional Business Plan competition in May, where he won the first place award of $1,500. Keefe Tech’s Entrepreneurship class is structured around NFTEbased curriculum, which aims to provide students with the ability to thrive in the innovation economy, no matter what path they choose. The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) is an internationally recognized nonprofit that activates the entrepreneurial mindset in young people. NFTE’s Entrepreneurship Pathway program integrates the development of the entrepreneurial mindset with academic and industry skills to ensure that all NFTE youth are career-ready. Over the course of the school year, students create and assemble a business plan, and then present it in a competition. The NFTE curriculum provides the framework for the business plan project and presentations along with regular training for the teachers,” Warren noted. “NFTE also provides field trips for the students including a wholesale buying trip to New York City. Last year we also visited Clark University for an ideation workshop and Bose Corporation for a workshop on business plan financials,” he added. “I’m thrilled that Dan has created this plan and accomplished so much with it. He is a brilliant young man and a great representative of Keefe Tech and all we do here,” said Warren. Quackenbush will present at the upcoming 12th annual NFTE National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge on October 11 in New York City, where 40 NFTE alumni from across the US who won their spring regional business plan competitions will compete.
