FROM THE DESK OF
GL CEO
Time seems to fly and we are already joining
hands to publish our second issue of
Gamuda Rise. Following the events
highlighted in the previous issue, there have
been more happenings and excitement at
Gamuda Land (GL) to share with the Group
once again.
The ever-changing landscape of the property
development industry has driven GL to be
more creative in staying true to our vision of
“creating places that people will call home,
want to be a part of, grow up and grow old in”.
While we have built a steady brand over the
past 23 years, we recognise the need to be
more agile and proactive in today’s
competitive environment in order to stay
ahead of the game.
Hence, in recent months, we have
implemented waves of transformation to the
way we do business. Our sales people have
been re-trained as relationship personnel, to
build a stronger connection and provide
better service to our customers. We are also
driving innovative placemaking to activate
our townships and adopting technology that
enables us to gain better data insights.
In light of these efforts, GL has been gaining
recognition in the marketplace with notable
accolades from various bodies such as the
Putra Brand Awards and The Edge Property
Awards. Our recent launches have been well
received with Gamuda Cove’s first release of
landed homes being 100% subscribed. And
we have forged a stronger presence in the
community with GL Experience Lounges and
Galleries opening in Uptown, Klang, Taipan
and soon, in KL.
Moving forward, the GL team is relentless in
our drive to build a stronger brand and better
business sustainability. We do not rest on our
laurels but strive to reach new milestones for
Gamuda Land, continually.
Happy reading!
Moving forward with
While most of us know the importance
of good postures and an ergonomic
working environment, many shrug it off
as something secondary.
Gamuda Women Empowerment Network
(GWEN) thought otherwise and initiated a health screening and
‘movement’ workshop to share simple tips and tricks that can
help improve staff’s physical health at the workplace since we
spend most of our hours at work.
The seminar was followed by a health screening session but
unlike a general health screening, participants were evaluated
on their postural structures and habits. Upon detailed
evaluation, Movement First offered complementary on-site
physiotherapy session for 32 employees.
Besides encouraging good workplace health, such programmes
are known to improve workplace performances and enhance
efficiency and productivity – some of the goals the GWEN
committee is hoping to achieve through their engagements.
What’s more encouraging is that, the programme had equal
participation from male colleagues as well, setting the pace for
GWEN’S gender-neutral approach.
Meanwhile, the GWEN committee also conducted a focus group
discussion involving key personnel from various departments
within Gamuda recently. Findings from the discussion will be
deliberated further to draw a concrete plan that will benefit all
employees.
The Focus Group will also be formulating a survey that analyses
networking gaps within the workforce and will gather opinions
on initiatives that will enhance employees’ career progression
and personal wellbeing.
Do watch out for further announcements and more exciting
activities via Workplace.
NGAN CHEE MENG
Elated at the sight of a full house, the Move@Work initiative
served as a major confidence booster for the GWEN committee.
The programme is GWEN’s first employee engagement attempt
and its success gave several insights to the organising
committee. One particular insight received was that, employees
enjoy and favour health-related programmes that will enable
them to maintain a healthy lifestyle while at work.
Move@Work was carried out by Movement First, a
multidisciplinary sports rehabilitation company. A
three-member team of physiotherapist, sports rehabilitator and
orthotist conducted a seminar on overall foot health, good
postural habits and simple adjustments that create a better
work environment.
G
amuda Land’s latest township development,
Gamuda Cove in southern Klang Valley has over
10,000 registered interests and its first
residential release, the 198-unit, double-storey
link homes of Palma Sands is 100 per cent
subscribed.
Nature Sanctuary, Future City
The overwhelming response is a testament towards Gamuda
Land’s good town-making principles that focus on mindful
master-planning, innovative placemaking and sustainable
community building.
Blending in nature
The sprawling 1,500-acre Gamuda Cove is flanked by the lush
Kuala Langat Forest Reserve and Paya Indah Wetlands and has a
gross development value of RM20 billion, that will be developed
over the next 20 years.
“Gamuda Land is known as a town-maker. We think of not just
homes, but also a work place, play place, learning place, park
place and shopping place. This is how we drive innovation at
Gamuda Land. We are positive Gamuda Cove will do well and
appreciate in value in the long term,” said Aw Sei Cheh, Project
Director of Gamuda Land.
A township for all
About 474 acres, or 31% of the land, have been set aside for the
residential component, and is expected to offer about 20,000
residential units upon completion of the entire project.
The commercial component and serviced apartments will take
up 372 acres, or 25% of the land. This area will be divided into
five districts – central business district (CBD); leisure and
entertainment; arts, culture and tourism; knowledge and
information corridor; and a wellness oasis.
Nature Sanctuary, Future City.
One of the key attractions of Gamuda Cove will be its 60-acre
Central Park, which will feature three lakes, a 5km jogging and
cycling path, exercise apparatus, children’s playground and a
weaver bridge, to name a few.
In addition, there will also be a 50-acre Discovery Park, which will
offer unique experiences with three recreational zones – an
adventure park, a sports park and a hangout village – which is
poised to be a key destination for local and international visitors.
The nucleus of southern Klang Valley
“Looking ahead, we plan to enhance the connectivity of the
strategically located and well-connected township by
constructing future flyovers or direct linkages from Putrajaya,
Cyberjaya and Dengkil. There will be shuttle bus services to
places like KLIA, klia2 and Putrajaya Sentral Station. We also plan
to implement several smart facilities in Gamuda Cove such as
trams within the CBD, smart traffic and parking systems and
digital infrastructure with 5G connection,” added Aw.
Recharge with
Gamuda Sports Club
It was meant to gather people of diverse backgrounds on a
common platform, to share their interests, hobbies, fitness
goals as well as passion for travel.
While the activities are not work-related, the management
found sports and recreation to be the best alternatives that
foster camaraderie and oneness among its people. It also
promotes a leisurely, competitive or rewarding avenue that
benefits staff at all levels.
“We want Gamudians to understand that the company always
has their best interest in mind and do care about their health
and wellbeing,” said Joshua Gunam when explaining about the
creation of Gamuda Sports Club (GSC) in mid-90s.
The Vice President for Social went on to say that besides serving
as an unofficial staff benefit, the GSC was set up with the
intention of assisting employees with their personal and social
development outside of the work environment.
The company absorbs 50% of the cost in its bid to create a
healthier, happier and more engaged workforce whereas the
participating employee takes care of the remaining cost so that
they have some sense of ownership over the activities.
Joshua added that while regular sports activities like bowling,
badminton, futsal and dodgeball create the opportunity for
staff to have an active and healthy lifestyle, recreational
activities which have elements of team building and leisure
promotes the importance of positive mental health and
mindfulness.
The strongest link
I
n today’s world there are many ways to connect digitally.
One such way is LinkedIn.
But LinkedIn, unlike its more casual contemporaries
Facebook and Instagram, is not a vacuous social media
platform. It’s not a place to share holiday selfies or cat
videos or Internet memes.
It’s a global professional network, made up of experts and
specialists who are not only looking for opportunities, but also
looking to share insights and knowledge.
Gamuda’s presence on LinkedIn this year has grown. In October
2017, we had 10,000 followers. A year later, that figure is close
to 50,000.
| NOV 2018 | 06
The sports and recreation activities for the year are generally
announced on the company’s social media site (Workplace) and
participation priority is always given to first-timers.
“At some point, we noticed that we were getting the same group
of people. So, to be fair we keep the registration link open until
the indicated final date although we would have hit our targeted
numbers much earlier. After the closing date, we will skim
through the registration list and prioritise those who are
signing-up for the first time before accepting the returning
participants.”
“Sports and recreation creates an opportunity for people to
socialise and bond with their peers. People with similar interests
are quick to form a network through conversation and activities
and at the same time, develop values like ownership, teamwork
and a positive work culture that creates a work-life balance,” said
Joshua.
Yearning for healthier lifestyle? Do keep an eye out for the next
line up of sports and recreation activities on the Gamuda Sports
Club page @Workplace.
We have been engaging with our followers by sharing updates
about the company, its projects and initiatives and we have
been doing so through Gamuda employees.
This year, we have produced about ten blog posts, or LinkedIn
Pulse articles, where key Gamuda figures from different business
units explore a topic relevant to their work and industry.
A recent example would be Gamuda Engineering Head of
Project Management, Ronan Collins discussing BIM
implementation and training in Malaysia, using the MRT SSP
Line as a case study.
These blog posts, which are always accompanied by a video or
two, have consistently achieved a high engagement rate from
our followers.
That’s because LinkedIn is about discourse and discussion and
who best to get a conversation started about Gamuda than our
very own people.
Connecting digitally can be productive. Digital platforms like
LinkedIn and Workplace are built for dynamic sharing and
exchange.
It’s just up to us to link up.
With this in mind, we have taken a step further to
revamp the concept of our property galleries.
Flagship property galleries are now known as
Experience Galleries, while smaller satellite
galleries are called Experience Lounges. Unlike
the conventional property galleries which are
usually located within the development site,
Gamuda Land experience galleries or lounges are
strategically located within well-established town
centres.
Designed to be cosy and convenient for
customers to drop in and find out more about our
latest developments after running their errands
nearby, this new initiative is part of our steadfast
commitment to always ensure that our customers’
property journey is as enriching as possible.
