Abstract Integration <strong>of</strong> distributed data sources is an important development <strong>of</strong> chemical database. The strategy<br />
<strong>of</strong> data integration is developed in this paper, based on the compound identifiers and their characteristic <strong>of</strong><br />
correlating data resources from different branches <strong>of</strong> chemistry. The distributed chemical data sources can be<br />
integrated and released by the Web service based chemical data grid, using the core service <strong>of</strong> data grid developed<br />
by the Computer Network Information Center, Chinese Academy <strong>of</strong> Sciences. The result <strong>of</strong> this work shows that the<br />
requirement <strong>of</strong> data integration can be fitted b y the chemical data grid with the compound identifier based data<br />
integration. The Web service based data access can further be used to the integration and sharing <strong>of</strong> distributed<br />
chemical data application, by which a platform for chemical research can also be developed.<br />
