DESCRIPTIVE ESSAY
The Descriptive Essay is defined as the text developed by an author with the intention
of expressing his point of view about the different traits of an individual, situation or
object, and that is materialized through the descriptive act, which is also totally influenced
by subjectivity, rather than an objective intention on the part of the writer.
It should be noted that the Descriptive Essay will consist of the mention of
characteristics that most impress the author, as well as the different feelings and emotions
that these evoke. Likewise, the descriptive essays can have different tones, going from the
dramatic, when what is described is a person, object, landscape or situation is referred to
as an element immersed in an atmosphere of sadness or tension, even the comic, when the
author highlights the traits and associations of a humorous type that may arise around the
element described.

Body:
• Choose a theme that focuses on a person, place or event. All of them invite to the
description.
• Start with a meaningful anecdote, rather than a statement of intent or a thesis.
• Develop the body of the essay with the steps that include action, dialogue and images. You
do not have to include everything possible, but rather discuss the highlights.
• Follow the old writing adage: To do this, use a lot of sensory impressions and describe the
action with strong verbs.
Conclusion:
• Close the essay with a final image and some thoughtful comments. Ideally, the final image
will work in a symbolic way.
