ON THE FARM<br />
1. A farmer had a number of emus <strong>and</strong> alpacas in one paddock. When she<br />
counted, there were 38 heads <strong>and</strong> 100 legs. How many emus <strong>and</strong> how<br />
many alpacas were in the paddock?<br />
2. The farmer decided to buy some young calves <strong>and</strong> piglets at the market.<br />
She paid $60 for each piglet <strong>and</strong> $95 for each calf. She paid for the 10<br />
animals she bought with a cheque for $740. How many calves <strong>and</strong> how<br />
many piglets did she buy?<br />
3. Her neighbour needed to buy more stock, so the farmer sold him some<br />
alpacas for $48 <strong>and</strong> twice as many emus for $12 each. She received a<br />
total of $1080. How many alpacas <strong>and</strong> how many emus did she sell?<br />
