The TIE that binds the church & home together Volume 79, Issue 12 Page 2 Youth Ministry On Wednesdays this Fall our guys were joined by different men within our church who shared about their faith stories and how God was part of their work life. We were pleased to have John Lewis, Jim Hollinger, and Dave Smith each share about how they came to faith in Christ and how they lived our God's calling through their various careers. Our young men learned a lot from these guest leaders and were encouraged to think about how God may be speaking in their lives. Our girls were joined by our very own Mary Katherine Francisco who taught a series called Valorous Voices that seeks to empower young women to avoid sexual peer pressure, having healthy relationships, and setting boundaries. They had conversations about how this related to their faith as well. Our young women shared how they loved having a safe environment to talk with one another about issues they do not always get to talk about. Many shared that they wished this series could go even longer. We had a special treat on Wednesday when CTE (Come to Eat) provided delicious Asian food for our students! We ate platefuls of fried rice and lo mein noodles and the room was filled with laughter. What a special night! On other Wednesday nights, the youth served alongside our older children at Bright Futures in Frederick County. At each service night, our group closes with prayer and a devotion. Bright Futures helps with food insecurity among the schools in our community. Their coordinator, Nancy Mango, always expresses her gratitude for our youth and their work ethic when we serve. This speaks volumes about our church and our youth. We plan to continue this partnership into the spring and continue to be a presence for Christ as we serve our community. Upcoming Youth Events Christmas Pageant on December 5, 2018 - On this final Wednesday evening of the year our youth will be assisting the children for the Christmas pageant. We have youth playing Christmas hymns in the service as well as taking part in the nativity. Youth Christmas Party on December 9, 2018 - Following the White Christmas service our youth will have our annual Christmas Party in the 301 House. Youth Winter Retreat January 10-12, 2019 - The Winter Retreat this coming year will focus on "Dreams" and look at the stories in scripture of dreams and how young people can participate in God's vision.

The prophets gave the exact location of His birth (Micah 5:2) and also a sign that He would be born from a virgin (Isaiah 7:14). Anticipation is a necessary and important part of every believer’s heart. In Old Testament times people anxiously awaited the coming of Jesus. Today we wait with the same urgency for the Lord’s coming again. We look forward to the day when victory over sin and death will be complete. “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus” is one of more than 6,500 hymns written by Charles Wesley. It was first published in 1744. The tune, HYFRYDOL, was composed by Rowland H. Pritchard and it means, “good cheer”. We rejoice in the truth that God’s eternal promises are unchangeable: Christ was born and He will come again! Come, thou long-expected Jesus, born to set Thy people free; From our fears and sins release us: Let us find or rest in Thee; Israel’s Strength and Consolation, hope of all the earth thou art; Dear Desire of ev’ry nation, joy of every longing heart. Born Thy people to deliver, born a child and yet a King; Born to reign in us forever, now Thy gracious Kingdom bring. By thine own eternal Spirit rule in all our hearts alone; by Thine all sufficient merit, raise us to Thy glorious throne. FBC Kids Our families have been so active this fall and we have no plans to slow down as we quickly approach Advent! Folks of all ages participated in the annual Winchester Christmas parade on November 26 th . Our Christmas program is scheduled for Wednesday December 5 th at 6pm. We will rehearse November 28 th and December 2 nd . I look forward to hearing the Christmas story from our children! This year we have special music performances planned as well! An extra special Parent’s Night Out, is scheduled for Saturday December 1 st , 6-8pm. Parents can shop while children watch “The Polar Express”! Feel free to join us as a volunteer! There is nothing like seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child. If you would like to take time to read a Christmas story or share memories with our kids during Sunday school opening 9:40-10 am each Sunday or Bible friends during second service, please contact Alison Wright!
