Lake Gregory Church Plans for the
Holiday Season
Here are some of the events
planned for the Lake Gregory Community
Church during the holiday
season. The fun includes events for
the whole family.
• The Gospel Project, every
Sunday morning, 9 & 10:30 a.m.
Engaging Children’s ministry that
introduces children to the message
of the Bible is available during both
gatherings. Resources for parents
also provided.

Families with Youth:
• #famfridays, every Friday from
7 to 9 p.m. Join other teens for this
high energy and engaging time together
each week.
• Friday 5th quarter – as scheduled.
Special events and activities in addition

• Mexico Missions Trip, December
14-16. Call for more information.

Women’s Ministry Events:
• Bunco game night, Saturday, October
20, 6:45 p.m. Get together
with other ladies for an evening of
fun. Bring an appetizer or snack to
share.
• Women’s Christmas Dinner, Saturday,
December 1, noon to 3 p.m.
at Twin Peaks Christian Conference
Center. This is a great way to prepare
for the holiday season!
Men’s Ministry Events:
• “Come to the Table” Men’s Dinner,
Sunday, November 11, 5 p.m.
All men are invited to be a part of
this annual event to reflect on our
relationship with God and each other.
• Service projects – opportunities
are available each month to help
someone in our community.
New Message Series and Classes
on Sunday Mornings: (Every Sunday
at 9 or 10:30 a.m.)
• “Experiencing God—A real God
being experienced by real people.”

• Foundations Class – better understand
the foundational matters of
our faith (9 a.m.)

Holiday Magic Writing Contest
Announced

Several months ago, the
writing contest sponsored by
Akasha Healing Center (AHC),
“The Best Spooky Story Ever,”
was so successful and received
such fascinating and high-quality
submissions, that another writing
contest has been announced, just
in time to win money for holiday
shopping. The theme is “Holiday
Magic.” There will be two categories,
ages 8 to 12-years-old and 13
to 18 years of age, or through high
school senior. In each category
there will be $100 in cash prizes
presented to the top authors of
original works. Submission deadline
is December 21 at 5:59 p.m.
at AHC.
This contest is open to
all students, whether attending
Rim district schools, or are home
schooled or attend local private
schools, however some mountain
connection must be there, so regular
weekenders or those who own/
visit family cabins are invited to
participate.
To assist the students,

December 1, at 11 a.m. at AHC,
located at 23876 Lake Dr. Crestline.
Students are not required to
attend the workshop to enter the
contest. The workshop will be
presented by a published author
and poet. Three of the four winners
in the last contest, attended
the last workshop, to mold their
ideas into creative action and descriptive
stories.
What is your definition
or story about “Holiday Magic?”
Use your imagination and let it
run wild and tell your story. The
more fanciful, the better chance
you have to win the $100 prize.
There is no story maximum or
minimum length. It must however
be submitted in legible form, and
an illustration is optional.
Submission deadline is December
21 at 5:59 p.m. to Akasha
Healing Center, at 23876 Lake Dr.
Crestline. Akasha is open Thursday
through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6
p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Dave Ficke: Photographer With An
Educated Angle

Dave Ficke has been an educator
for 33 years, specializing in
Environmental and Field Biology
education. He was appointed to the
State Superintendent’s Task Force
to develop an Environmental Education
Blueprint for all of California’s
K-12 students. His passion for
the environment and wilderness has
taken him on his professional photographic
journey. For twenty-seven
years he has had the opportunity
to share his passion for the
environment with his high schools
students who have made field trips
to Yosemite National Park. Other
experiential trips included journeys
down the Colorado River, to Catalina
Island, and Joshua Tree National
Park.
Dave is an accomplished
photographer specializing in wildlife,
landscape wildflowers and
sports photography. He currently
is the sports photographer for the
Mountain News, covering Rim of
the World High School sports. He
has won various photography con-

(wildflowers), Landscape, Nature
and Photojournalism.
One of Dave’s loves is photographing
big panoramic landscapes;
he does not like to be confined
to the 8x10 format. So you
will see many of his photographs in
10x20 or larger format. This allows
you to feel like you can walk into
and be surrounded by the experience
caught by his expansive photograph.
Dave is intensely committed
to searching out places
that are not just iconic but portray
an experience. It could be
a sense of place, weather, wildlife,
or landscape committed to
telling a story.
The most popular type or
format of photograph that Dave
produces is the large format
metal print. For the customer
who collects these high-resolution,
large, detailed images,
they are a perpetual window
into a meadow, garden, forest
or desert to be collected and
treasured for a lifetime.

(MAPS)
1st WEDNESDAY NIGHT:
The Mountain Arts Photographic
Society (MAPS) meets the
first Wednesday of each month
from 6:00 to about 8:00 PM in
the CAC. The first hour covers
MAPS events and features an
educational presentation on a
photography topic of interest.
Each month a photography
challenge is given. The second
hour gives MAPS members
an opportunity to share their
challenge photographs with
the group. Constructive comments
and suggestions facilitate
skill development and personal
growth. The challenge for July
is “July Fun”. Note that the Special
Olympics are coming to the Arrowhead
Communities July 21-24 and
will offer many wonderful photographic
opportunities.
