“I wonder what the apartment looks like,” said Laila in the driver seat of her Nissan Altima. “I’ve showed you the picture a million times before, jeez!” replied Megan in her same usual annoyed voice. “I know, it’s just that I’m so excited.” said Addison. “Calm down the both of you, I know this is a lot to take in but we are grownups now and need to act like it,” said Addison. “Okkkkk,” replied Meghan and Laila. They all laughed. The three friends were going to move into an apartment together in New York at a place where they rented an apartment for only $200, which Meghan thought was weird that it was so cheap. She finally gave in when they said that the apartment had 3 beds, one for each of them. Each of them could barely wait to see the new apartment in which they would probably spend the next few years. This was a huge milestone in each of the girls’ lives. The girls arrived at the apartment complex with all of their suitcases and bags. From the outside, the place looked like a simple little building but on the inside the girls each got the chills but said nothing to each other. The lobby of the complex was cold and not very greeting but again, they said nothing. The girls walked over to the the attendant at the front desk. “Hi ladies, my name is Martin. How may I be of assistance?” said the attendant. “Hi Martin!” replied Laila. “We are here to receive our apartment keys for our apartment.” said Meghan. “Ah, yes. You guys must be the new people staying......in Apartment 9.” said Martin looking at his computer screen to see our apartment number. “Yep, that’s us!” said Addison. They all signed a form and were given the room keys. “Oh and just be cautious of Apartment 6, they say that it’s haunted.” 1
The three girls made their way to Apartment 9 and on a count of three opened the door. Inside the apartment they found their three beds, a bathroom big enough to fit one person at a time with a tiny shower, sink, and a toilet taking up most of the room. By each bed was a small table. There were dresser drawers ready to be stuffed with clothes lined up on the walls with huge mirrors hanging over them. The three girls were speechless. Little did they know that they had just made the biggest mistake of their lives, and probably the last. “I’m going to the bathroom,” said Laila telling the other two who were busy looking around the apartment. “Ok,” said Meghan. Laila walked over to the bathroom and squeezed herself into the tiny room, struggling to actually do what she came to do. Once she was done, she washed her hands. Right as she was about to leave, she heard a whining noise coming from the shower. She looked into the shower to inspect, but saw nothing. “I must be imagining things,” thought Laila to herself. She left the bathroom and continued to unpack, not saying anything about the shower incident. Laila had 2 drawers to herself in which she put her shirts, pants, skirts, and shorts in one drawer. She put her undergarments and socks in the other drawer. She also arranged all her shoes in a little shelf they had bought specially for that reason. Meghan and Addison unpacked their things and arranged them just like Laila. Addison insisted on having the bed closest to the window. Meghan called the one in the middle, which left Laila with the one near the bathroom. The girls ordered Chinese food from a nearby Chinese restaurant and celebrated their first night by themselves. They watched a scary movie and went to sleep after the long day they had. Laila tried to fall asleep but couldn’t for some reason. She kept hearing the same whining noises from the bathroom as earlier. After she couldn’t take it anymore, Laila got out of bed and went into the bathroom. The noises stopped and all of a sudden the lights in the bathroom turned off. Laila screamed. “What’s wrong?” 2
