Central Moravian Church in
Bethlehem, as part of the worldwide
Moravian Church, emphasizes
mission and service to others.
Each year, Pastor Hopeton Clennon
leads a group of about 20-30
volunteers on a week-long service
trip to Jamaica. The core of the
group is made up of college students
and some high school students from
the Bethlehem area. The Church
provides support for these additional
students through donations and
fundraising efforts and each
participating traveler pays for a
portion of the cost of their trip.
Additional funds are needed to make
up the shortfall in the budget raised
by participating students.
This alternative Spring Break trip
focuses on helping the Jamaican
community with construction
and educational projects. It also
provides an opportunity for students
to interact with elementary-age
children in a rural community in the
southwestern region of Jamaica.
Over the past nine years, the projects
have involved painting houses,
churches, schools, orphanages and
a medical clinic, laying tiles, and
construction with lumber.
Support is needed in order to help fund
the travel costs for Bethlehem area
high schools students.
Live Learn & Play, Inc. is a 501(c)3
non-profit corporation established
in September 2012 to help local
families with Autism and special
needs by promoting awareness
and inclusion. Located in the
South Mall in Allentown, they are
a one-of-a-kind inclusive Sensory
Gym & Resource Center. Their
programs and services are designed
for children and adults with Autism
and special needs, and is open to
everyone. The center was designed
based around the concept that we
can all learn from each other.
The facility has over 3000 sq. ft. of
indoor space with both an Indoor
Sensory Gym and multipurpose
room/classroom. The first room has
equipment including two jungle
gyms, incline plane with rope pull,
ball pit, foam pit, quiet tower, rock
wall two-story play area. The second
room has toys, trains, Legos, large
foam blocks, sensory floor mazes,
TV with Xbox, and a trampoline.
A number of factors has led to a
budget shortfall in the Fall of 2018.
Decreased levels in both giving
and program-related income has
threatened current programming
levels.
Support is needed to maintain
programming levels for families with
Autism.
The mission of New Bethany
Ministries is to provide opportunities
for a secure future to the hungry,
homeless, poor, and mentally ill of
the Lehigh Valley. Their goal is to
help families and individuals who are
capable to become self-sufficient and
live independently.
New Bethany Ministries is part of
the Lehigh Valley Regional Housing
Advisory Board (LVRHAB). Its
Affordable Housing Committee
is seeking support for an annual
stipend towards an intern or
part-time administrative person.
The position’s responsibilities
include scheduling and attending
meetings to take minutes and share
information on the discussion board
that New Bethany is establishing.
The goal of the LVRHAB is to
employ a collective impact approach
to the affordable housing issue
through the coordinated entry
system, known as Connect to Home.
The system connects people to the
right solution to end their housing
crisis or homelessness as quickly
and effectively as possible. It ensures
limited housing and resources are
prioritized for those who need them
the most.
Support is needed to fund a part-time
position to support the work of LVRHAB
and New Bethany Ministries.
