Hiking in this wilderness can be an adventure in 

itself! You will see the homesteads and cabins of 

the early men and women who made their living 

in Hells Canyon, early Native American writings 

on the walls along the trails, and stunning vistas 

as you climb high to canyon viewpoints over 1,000 

feet above river level. 

Hells Canyon offers opportunities to satisfy both 

the experienced angler and the novice. Imagine 

fighting a bass every few minutes, catching a trout

take in the beauty of the forested canyons and high

towering Ponderosa Pines, flourishing wildflowers, 

and amazing wildlife viewing opportunities. 

Fishing and hiking opportunities abound! Rainbow 

and cutthroat trout are the fish of choice whether 

you prefer casting spinner in the ripples or fly fishing 

in the crystal clear tributaries. If you prefer to view 

the canyon from the trail, the Main Salmon offers 

exceptional hiking opportunities with short walks 

to pictographs and historic homesteads where

pioneers, miners, and Native Americans that once

water temperatures perfect for water fighting and 

swimming. Our expertly trained guides will put 

you in the best spot to receive a splash. You can 

choose to be a part of the paddle-crew in a stern 

mount paddle raft, relax and wait for the splash 

in an oar boat, or go on your own adventure in an 

inflatable kayak when river levels are safe.

Owyhee River

OWYHEE RIVER WILDERNESS 

This designated wild and scenic desert river journeys through a bizarre 

landscape of lava flows, granite cliffs, and sandstone formations. 

The Owyhee River, often described as “The Grand 

Canyon of the Northwest,” is the perfect early spring 

river trip. It is full of wildflowers and exotic wildlife 

specific to the area. Hiking in this canyon is a favorite 

among our guests and guides, providing great 

overlooks, diverse geologic formations, and exciting 

slot canyons to explore. You will float through awe 

inspiring cliffs towering 1,500 feet above you in the 

tight canyon while prairie falcons, eagles, and other 

raptors soar above you. Bighorn Sheep, Pronghorn 

Antelope, and the American Badger are just a few of 

the notable wildlife species that will be scrambling 

over the rocky talus slopes above. 

The Lower Owyhee is a fun class III+ whitewater river 

throughout — perfect for the extreme adventurer 

but still good for families and kids 10 yrs. or older. As 

you may have seen on other free-flowing rivers, it has 

white sand beaches and natural hot springs around 

almost every river bend. Rafting the Owyhee provides 

a true feeling of wilderness and a chance to visit a 

rarely seen part of the U.S. 

The Owyhee runs in the spring time between April and 

May. Water flows are inconsistent and occasionally 

these trips are not available. In the case of water flow 

issues you may reschedule for the following year or 

opt for an equally-exciting trip on the Snake River in 

Hells Canyon. Please get in contact with us for more 

information on river flow details. 

Raft over 50 miles on this magnificent desert river starting 

out of Tome, Oregon. If you want more time to hike or relax, 

we modify this trip to a 5-day.

HELLS CANYON BASS FISHING 

If fishing in the backcountry is a passion of yours, 

this river adventure has it all. During the warm 

summer months you can’t find better bass fishing 

— 80 to 100 a day is not uncommon. Target these 

aggressive fighters with your favorite lures, top 

water plastics, crank baits, or flies. Sturgeon are 

always a highlight of this trip. Watching these 

6-to-8-foot prehistoric fish jump out of the water is 

a world wonder. Rainbow trout are overshadowed 

by the fantastic bass fishing but 18” rainbows are 

common if you target them. This is a great trip for 

the fly or spinner fishermen of all skill levels. This 

spectacular wilderness fishing trip in the deepest
