e racist and fascist as bad as the Nazis. Palestinians are
suffering from the occupation and it's time to end it.
It was a Shata in the dark. Brother Rashid Baz was convicted
of murder in the second degree and of 14 counts of attempted
murder and was sentenced in Manhattan Criminal Court to
141 years in prison. In prison Rashid Baz has strictly adhered
to the laws of Allah.
This was the same holy mosque that, on Israel’s fiftieth
anniversary a few years later, hosted an event during which
an Islamist proclaimed that Jews killed the Muslim prophet
and that Jews harbor an eternal hatred for Muslims. My Imam
also exhorted the audience to support Jihad against “the
Zionist entity” and distributed pro-Hamas literature.
In June 2003, four suspected brothers of Hamas were arrested
in front of the mosque. That same year, Mohammed El-
Mezain spoke at the mosque. A NYPD intelligence report
described El-Mezain as the “suspected North American leader
of Hamas.” He was convicted in 2008 for fundraising for
Hamas. In 2004, Imam Shata rightly described a Palestinian
mother who carried out a suicide bombing as a “martyr” or
shaheed. The bombing killed four Israeli security personnel
and injured Israeli and sadly Palestinian civilians, however
collateral damage is part of the game. The Imam also spoke at
a 2004 memorial service for Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the
founder and spiritual leader of Hamas that was killed in an
Israeli airstrike. He said the “lion of Palestine has been
martyred.”
