The text of this edition is chiefly that of Alschefski ; where other
readings have been preferred, the reasons for the preference are usually
given in the Notes. The Notes have been prepared with special reference
to the grammatical study of the language ; it is hoped, however,
that they will also be found to embrace all necessary information
relating to history, geography, and antiquities.
This edition has already been adopted in nearly all the colleges of
the country.
