22 There is a small organization in Jacksonville and Pittsfield,
Illinois, known the Zions Camp Illinois Trail Committee.
Members of this group have spent years researching the Zion’s
Camp story as it pertains to their region. Although their for¬
mal training is in the medical field, they are individuals of great
capacity who meticulously seek out and utilize all available
sources of learning, both published and on site. Several of this
group took me to Spring Creek, the Jacksonville campsite,
Geneva, and the Zelph mound to ensure that I took images of
the correct sites. Moreover, I learned stories and traditions
from this area that were subsequently included in the text of
