How it works
BOTOX® is made from the bacteria that causes botulism. Botulinum toxin blocks nerve activity in the muscles. As the
treated muscles relax, dynamic wrinkles and lines created by their contraction gradually fade, and sometimes even
disappear completely resulting in smooth skin. The possible treatment areas for BOTOX® include forehead lines,
frown lines, bunny lines, crow’s feet, slimming of the jaw, dimpled chin, gummy smile, lip lines and so much more.
BOTOX® injections are safe when administered by an experienced practitioner with extensive knowledge of facial
anatomy. Once injected, it begins to take effect about 24 - 72 hours after. Its maximal effects are seen 1 -2 weeks
following the injections. The effects are not permanent and lasts about 3 -6 months after which the injections
maybe repeated.
Botox should not be used
Botox® should not be used in patients who have neuromuscular disease such as myasthenia gravis, who are
allergic to human albumin, who are taking muscle relaxants, pregnant or breast feeding mothers or who has a
bleeding disorder. If any of the above applies to you, you should inform us prior to treatment.
Before your treatment, you should avoid aspirin-containing products for 1 - 2 weeks since these may predispose
you to excessive bleeding and/or bruising.
Results
The beautiful, natural looking results gradually take effect over the two weeks following your treatment and can last
up to 3 or 6 months. We advise our patients to expect peak results after 4 to 6 weeks and to bear this in mind when
planning for a special event. Results typically last 3 to 4 months and we recommend regular touch ups to maintain
results.

It is a myth that you cannot lie down for several hours or exercise following a BOTOX® treatment
Special recommendations
In our experience most patients report that their BOTOX® results look the most natural at 6 to 8 weeks. Therefore, if
you have a special event coming up we recommend making your appointment for BOTOX® 6 – 8 weeks before the
event. This also leaves time for a touch up if necessary.
Time: Botox® injections are done in the consultation room. You will be able to go home soon afterwards and return
to work immediately.
