Education for Care Partners<br />

Based on First Link ® Learning Series principles, this 10-week series is designed for care partners<br />

to connect with one another, enhance their knowledge of dementia, and to develop practical<br />

strategies for supporting a person living with dementia. The series uses education, support-group<br />

style learning methods and discussion to address a range of important topics including:<br />

• Overview of dementia and related brain<br />

changes<br />

• Understanding behaviour and enhancing<br />

communication<br />

• Advance care planning and substitute<br />

decision making<br />

• Exploring residential care options<br />

• Coping with progression and caregiving roles<br />

• Community supports<br />

• Safety<br />

• Self-care for care partners<br />

• Maintaining connections<br />

Safety Planning Workshop<br />

- Care Partner attending Learning and Support Series<br />

This session will introduce the Elder Abuse Ontario Safety Planning Toolkit, as well as consider<br />

enhanced communication techniques when interacting with a person who has dementia. The talk is<br />

designed for family members, care partners, Social Workers, LHIN Care Coordinators, Community<br />

Living staff, CMHAWW staff, Day <strong>Program</strong> staff, IGSWs, Alzheimer Society staff and other interested<br />

parties. This event is offered in partnership with Elder Abuse Ontario.<br />

No fee to participate - donations appreciated.<br />
