HAPPINESS IS NOT SOMETHING
YOU POSTPONE FOR THE FUTURE;
IT IS SOMETHING
YOU DESIGN FOR THE PRESENT.
EDITOR’S NOTE
The back-to-back festive celebrations, from
New Year’s Eve to Chinese New Year (CNY)
in Feb 2019, indeed marked the celebration
of new beginnings for many. The fifteenth
and last day of CNY is known as Chap Goh Mei. In
Hokkien, it simply means ‘the 15th night of CNY’. It is
also known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day.
One of the fun activities on this auspicious night includes
the throwing of oranges into the sea by young maidens.
It is believed that by throwing oranges into the sea,
these young girls will be able to find themselves a good
husband. For many, the act of throwing oranges into
the sea also signifies that these girls are available for
marriage. It is also said that if someone sees a floating
orange in the water and picks it up, that generally means
that the single who threw it will be able to find a good
spouse.
Fun Fact: Do you know that while many of us may think
that such a tradition originates from China, that is not
the case? This interesting practice originated from a
little island known as Penang sometime towards the end
of the 19th century. Every year, a large crowd would
flock to the Esplanade to take part in this tradition.
This issue, we take a hard look at a new age digital
sensation that is taking the market by storm. “Gaming
Industry Boom – The Rise of the Next Entertainment
Market” is a glimpse into how the gaming industry,
whether played through a console, mobile or computer,
has evolved from simple arcade machines into an
industry in its own right. This is evident especially
when you’re waiting for a train, standing in a bank
queue, waiting for a meeting to start or even during
lunch break.
You will see people hunched over their mobile phones,
gaining points or killing monsters to go to the next level.
Statistics show that gaming is now even more popular
than television. With the rise of gaming’s popularity,
some have even become professionals and participated
in mega competitions where they can win big cash
prizes. (Read more on page 108.)
We salute HATCH HOME CONCEPT with the highest
honour as they are one of Malaysia’s leaders in the
manufacturing of contemporary furniture for every
home. From humble carpentry beginnings to making a
bold move towards research and development, Mr Chan
Kong Chuen, the founder has transformed Hatch Home
Concept into an Italian-inspired, sophisticated furniture
manufacturer that is sought-after worldwide. One of
their winning formulae is the stain-resistant leather
material that allows homeowners to remove stubborn
stains such as pen markers, coffee and wine.
Happy reading.
Gucci Reveals Its Spring Summer 2019 Campaign in Style
Gucci’s latest Spring Summer 2019 collection was revealed by
celebrating the beginnings of celebrity culture and the golden age
of Hollywood musicals with a campaign that was vibrant, energetic
and colourful. The campaign was shot and directed by Glen Luchford
who took inspiration for this unique campaign video from classic
films such as An American in Paris (1951), The Band Wagon(1953),
Cover Girl(1944), There’s No Business Like Show Business (1954)
and Singin’ in the Rain (1952). The video revisits the technicolour
and on-screen theatricality of song with dance numbers that was once
made famous by classic films in a modern, eccentric Gucci way. The
mood of the video is playful, paying homage to the musical films
from the 40s and 50s.
One of a Kind
12 January 2019
Panerai opens its first boutique in
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Through photography, Gucci shares the campaign with highly stylised
monochrome stills. Numerous characters from Gucci’s musicals
were shot in black and white with dramatic lighting, in the style of
many famous movie star portraits of the past. The visual aesthetics
of the overall campaign video was exuding elegance, glamour and
extravagance. At the very end, characters of the campaign were
interviewed about themselves and their Gucci outfits as they made
their way into the premier of the musical that they had just shot.
The campaign video shows all the aspects of a musical, from the
dance sequence, behind the scenes within a musical, cast interactions
and most importantly, costume design to cleverly reveal the latest
collection.
81 boutiques in the world, four in Southeast Asia including
the first one ever in Malaysia, the Panerai stand-alone
boutique has finally opened in Kuala Lumpur. The
Florentine high-end luxury watchmaker in close partnership
with Swiss Watch Gallery, Malaysia’s leading luxury watch
retailer opened the boutique in Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur.
Spanish designer, Patricia Urquiola designed the boutique.
Conceptualising tradition and the future, the stand-alone
boutique invites clients to experience Panerai’s heritage,
craftsmanship and technical expertise. The space’s
concept mimics the brand’s design with walnut wood and
brass. The Mafalda chairs were purposefully selected to
reflect the philosophy of the Florentine brand. All of these
elements bring together the perfect blend between Panerai
and Patricia Urquiola; the love of design, meticulous
execution and the homage to heritage.
Clients can expect the latest Panerai collections at the
boutique. All the key collection timepieces are showcased
such as the latest Luminor Submersible 1950 Amagnetic 3
watch as the first mechanical watch case made of BMG-
which is highly shock and corrosion resistant.
CULTURE | MUSIC
Music For The Soul
These artists put their muse and message on display
Velvet - JMSN
The moniker of music polymath Christian Berishaj, Detroit
raised, LA based singer-songwriter and sound engineer just
released Velvet, his sixth studio album. The album consists of
groovy, soulful instruments as well as reminisces back to the
smooth R&B of old. Neo-soul is supposedly to be dead and gone,
but a track as celestial as ‘Talk is cheap’ calls for resurgence.
Speaking on smooth, this could be seen in his ‘So badly’ track,
where he intrigues listeners with his silky smooth falsetto. With
a Prince style guitar rhythm and some Michael Jackson elements,
it’s crystal clear that his album has the 80’s influence.
This Is America - Childish Gambino
Gambino originally found mainstream success with the P-Funk
Pastiche of his 2016 album ‘Awaken, My love!’. Although, the
‘This is America’ single is a bit of a reset, where even if you don’t
watch the extraordinary video directed by Hiro Murai which was
clicked upon over 10 million views, the abrupt juxtaposition can
also be heard in the music itself displaying the chaos of black
people living in America. Built on the sharp contrast between
jolly, syncretic melodies and menacing trap cadences, the song
presents Childish Gambino as confident and cutting. ‘This
is America’ brought back 5 wins from the Grammy’s for Best
Record, Best Song, Best Rap and Best Music Video of the year.
OUR PICK
Lady Lady - Masego
This Virginia musician is known for the richness of jazzy
saxophone riffs, hip-hop’s infectious bounce, R&B’s soft
smoothness, and the swing of House. He is remembered for
his hit song ‘Tadow’ with over 93 million views with his close
collaborator FKJ. The release of his new album ‘Lady Lady’
celebrates diversity in music but also independent women. As
we unravel the album, it unleashes the arrangements of piano
and harmonic instrumentation on his track ‘I Had A Vision’. The
track ‘Lavish Lullaby’ is a modernized R&B song with elements
of a subtle trap record. All throughout, Masego makes the sound
on each track by himself playing multiple instruments such as the
saxophone, drums and casual beat machine.
Volume 1 - H.E.R
H.E.R songs was streamed in the millions and adored by
Janet Jackson too. The 21 year old songwriter earned five
Grammy nominations and brought back two wins under
her belt. She won for Best R&B Performance for ‘Best
Part’ featuring Daniel Caeser and Best R&B Album for
H.E.R. Volume 1 of H.E.R engages listeners with her
distinct vocal style while touching on self-love. With
‘Focus’, there’s a delicate repetition buoying over the
flutter of romantic keys. While on tracks like ‘Facts’ and
‘Pigment’, there is a sense of honest emotional unloading
delivered through hazy and melodic instrumentals.
The hatching of an
It is this concept of beginnings
home is the start to many things
The importance of the home is
owners want to make a perfect living space.
This is why furnishing a house with suitable
furniture can be a tedious process. Most people
stay in their homes for the long run, which means
finding long lasting, stylistic furniture pieces
that are of excellent quality.
Hatch was created for longevity.
The home-grown upholstered
their craftsmanship. Currently, the company has
over 20 years of experience in designing and
Yet, a company is only as good as the person who
has established it. Founder Chan Kong Chuen
started out as a carpenter’s apprentice more than
30 years ago, steadily learning the ins and outs
of furniture-making. With a penchant for fashion
design and abundant creativity, it was not long
before he established Hatch.
Carefully considering every question asked
before answering, Chan’s humility and diligence
are evident. These values are reflected in the
philosophy of Hatch itself, whereby substance,
Italian-inspired sophistication and good service
For instance, all sofas use a special stain-resistant
The Island of Rab in Croatia isn’t only rich
with culture, history and heritage but is
also surrounded by crystal blue waters
as well as beaches galore. Settled by
Illyrians in 350BC, Rab became an ancient Roman
municipality in the 1st century BC and was later
sold to Venice in the 15th century. Now as an island
of Croatia with rich culture and scenic views, it is
no wonder that it is constantly flocked with tourists
and locals alike. The beauty of Rab has captured
hearts to the extent that it became the place for this
young family to build their holiday home despite the
challenging conditions faced by the architects and
developers.
The plot allocated for the Palit House had overgrown
shrubs, a sandy valley but it overlooked a gorgeous
bay and was wedged between tourist settlement and
a forest. It was the perfect opportunity for this young
family to embark in this adventure of building their
holiday home with the hope for plenty of future
visits and usage. The plot had already contained a
small house with a large covered terrace, a shed and
tall stone walls that separated the plot from the road
whilst supporting the terraced gardens.
The new volume created by Roth and Čerina
brought the edge of the plot, providing the house
with the view behind whilst still cleverly framing
the islands in front. The new house was designed
as an extension to the original house as well as
incorporating the various characteristics of the
original structures into the new composition.
Brilliantly designed in a wedge-shaped volume,
the Palit House envelops the existing content of the
place.
The ground floor of the house hosts all the typical
areas such as the kitchen, dining room and living
room. These common rooms open up to the south
west terrace that faces the swimming pool and
summer kitchen. This open concept allows for the
space to appear big and vibrant, not to forget, it
describes an amicable place for children to play
whilst embracing Summer. This is ultimately cooled
by the narrow North-East section of the house which
caters for the resting areas of the house.
The rooms all have their own specific framed view of
the surrounding environment. The rooms also occupy
the upper floors as well as connect the galleries
and stairways. The black coloured railings for the
stairways provide a touch of modern to this holiday
home without taking away from the Greek-like
ambience that it shows from the outside. The central
void celebrates an open study that overlooks a
skylight that can double as a solar chimney for heat.
A perfect intersection is placed in the kitchen and
open workshop to truly embrace the spirit of living
life in the open. Similarly, the energy was re-enacted
in creating a three-story void over the dining table; a
vertical space that would connect the family through
acoustics. The use of the large glazed surface on
the ground floor fades the lines between the indoor
and outdoor space inviting a sense of adventure with
the pool and stairways to lower gardens as well as
olive orchards. The outdoor terrace commemorates
the existing stone- wall edges by having them
reconstructed. They are now an integral addition to
the overall design of the Palit House. TM
Viewed by locals as a sophisticated address and one of the wealthiest
neighbourhoods in the city, the district of Morumbi in the city of São
factors like it being home to several important buildings such as the Palácio dos
to other key areas of the city. Because of this, the district is home to its fair share
Hidden away in one of Morumbi’s neighbourhoods
by the name of Vila Progredior is one such project
which downplays the brilliance of its design with
an understated name like Industrial Loft II. Said
brilliance and design must be duly credited to
internationally-acclaimed local architect Diego
Revollo of Diego Revollo Arquitetura whose driving
forces where his work is concerned are aesthetic
rigour and the search for balance.
Working off the owner’s expressed desire for
the aesthetic appeal of New York sheds that
were converted into housing in the 1970s, Diego
prioritised functionality and the use of good
materials in his efforts to deliver this very visual
style within this 100-square-metre loft. As what was
handed to him was nearly the equivalent of a blank
canvas in the form of a space already featuring a
mezzanine floor but almost without walls, he saw no
need for any major remodelling work. However, he
did take the extra step of incorporating some of the
owner’s characteristics into the design by integrating
the areas and using colours such as black and grey.
Because of this, the project was able to achieve that
ideal blend of comfort and modernity while still
retaining the building’s industrial look.
39 MARCH/APRIL 2019 | TM

THE HOME
The focus on integration is particularly evident
on the ground floor where the kitchen, living and
dining areas are located. Where there was once
an L-shaped kitchen workbench, a dining table
with a pine wood top now exists so that nothing
resembling a wall or barrier remains. A similar
lack of division between rooms can be found
when it comes to the rooms, bathrooms and
closet on the mezzanine floor. With the ceilings
and walls brushed with grey burnt cement to
highlight the loft’s black metallic skeleton and
visible electrical pipes, the end visual of the loft
is that it is one giant box.
When it came to the loft’s décor, Diego invested
in elegant finishes and original solutions which
furthered his goal of warming the property’s
dark and sober palette while still highlighting
its industrial atmosphere. This was primarily
achieved through the use of Brazilian oak to
cover the entire floor and numerous other lighter-
There is a sense of tastefulness in wanting
to preserve classic design in today’s
world. Majority of people rush towards
the latest designs, trends and styles. Yet,
there is the few that embrace classic design like fine
wine; the older, the better. This Louis XV period
flat on a charming street in the Marais had been
previously decorated with the 1970s in mind.
The wooden floors, fireplaces, trumeaus and vintage
doors were all replaced with carpets, sliding doors
as well as being decorated in rose or gold tones. The
reinterpretation of this 1970s space into a poetic
18th century home by John Coury and Florent
Maillard have paid creative respect to that period of
time while still preserving the essence of the 1970s
house.
The 1970s flat was completely restructured to
return it to its mid 18th century style. However, the
designers did incorporate many modern day comforts
and conveniences to ensure usability. In terms of
design, the staircase of the building integrates into
the flat beautifully. This links the two floors subtly
while maintaining the 18th century style.
For the first floor, the designers added old Versailles
parquet floors and installed a Louis XV period
fireplace. This compliments the beautiful old doors,
used to replace the sliding doors, taken from the
Bibliothèque Polonaise in Ile Saint Louis. The 17th
The living room has various textures and elements
that all cohesively work together to create the 18th
century view. The use of the mixed fabric upholstery
with the furniture and the gold detailing in decorative
pieces subtly acknowledges the purpose of the
design without overwhelming the space. Similarly,
other spaces in the flat have their own focal points
and purpose such as the red elements in the living
room.
All the decorative elements in this flat were all
handpicked by the designers. They have combined
antique pieces that were meticulously sourced from
around the world with some eclectic decorative
pieces. The attention to detail is what makes this flat
pay the perfect homage to match the era and the style
of the time.
on the ceiling. The luxurious master bedroom was
Florent Maillard’s creative thinking has created
ADVERTORIAL
The Secret to
Performance
Sleep
Having a good night’s rest lies on
having the perfect mattress
Performance sleep is the key to many things life including being
focused, maintaining good health and retaining beauty. With a
restful sleep cycle, the human body regenerates itself to provide
sufficient energy for the next day. However, sleeping for long
hours does not equate to a restful sleep cycle. This is why is it
fundamental to recognise that there is a major difference between
the quantity of sleep and quality of sleep. The quality of sleep can
be agitated for many reasons but one of the most common sleep
disruptors is the mattress.
A good mattress should not only be comfortable but also be designed
to adequately support the spine, utilise high quality materials and
be durable to provide the same level of comfort over years of use.
The Beautyrest ® series by Simmons ® amalgamates all the important
factors that a quality mattress requires. Simmons mattresses are all
equipped with the Signature Simmons ® Pocketed Coil ® system.
This spring system effectively responds to the different weights
and contours of the human body for optimum comfort and support.
Additionally, the mattresses include a Non-flip system that eliminates
the chore to flip the mattress for maintenance.
The Beautyrest ® series has recently launched the new Ace collection
which includes the Beautyrest Ace ® , Beautyrest Ace Plus ® and
Beautyrest Ace Premier ® . Apart from the standard fittings of the
Simmons ® Pocketed Coil ® system and the Non-flip technology, the
mattresses are all differentiated by their comfort tops and speciality
foams used. Such sleep technologies play an important role in the
comfort of the mattress.
The Beautyrest Ace ® mattress is equipped with a plush top. The plush
top is a deep quilted top panel with larger patterns that provide a
firmer feel compared to the other two mattresses in the Ace collection.
The Beautyrest Ace Plus ® mattress has a pillow top with memory
foam which moulds to the body shape to reduce pressure points.
Next, the Beautyrest Ace Premier ® is fitted with the super pillow top
with latex that regulates body temperature whilst maintaining support
for the body. All three of the mattresses in the Ace collection have a
foam encasement. This encasement ensures that the mattress shape is
maintained and the sides do not sag which makes it more durable. TM
Tom Doak and Mike Clayton to channel a more traditional links course
which was typical in Scotland or Ireland. Playing golf at the Dunes can
be exciting as it is a game of strategy where every shot requires tactical
thought and some creativity.
The course embraces its coastal environment which flourishes in
fescue and bent grasses. The greens at the Barnbougle Dunes run at
speeds that resemble closely to the original greens at the Great Britain
links. They roll naturally with the undulation of the dunes and the 4th
hole boasts the largest bunker in the southern hemisphere.
The outward nine of this course takes players through a series of saddles
that both shelter and direct play lines. The last nine are more open but is
striking with the numerous views of the course that adjoins the bay and
Bridport. The fairways are wider than most traditional golf courses.
The true lines to the flags are from the corners of the fairways and the
perfect position is always changing due to the direction or strength of
the winds. The 4th and 12th holes are less than 275m from the back tee.
These holes are complemented by the par four 8th and the two par fives
in the back nine that compensate those with powerful yet measured
strokes. This course rewards strategic thinking and was created for the
pure enjoyment of golf. TM
28 years since its inaugural début,
the Salon International De Le Haute
Horlogerie (SIHH) has made its mark
as one of the most anticipated Fine
Watchmaking events. This year, major brands
took this opportunity to display their best
timepieces at Geneva, Switzerland. Since 1991,
SIHH has been held to preserve the art of making
timepieces as well as giving light to watchmaking
techniques. Here are some of this year’s stand out
pieces from the luxurious exhibitors including
brands such as Panerai, Girard-Perregaux and
Christophe Claret.
Angelico |
Christophe Claret
The Angelico model, named after Italian Renaissance ‘painter
of angels’ Fra Angelico, is Christophe Claret’s contemporary
tribute that embodies the 18th century marine chronometer. The
watchmaker has challenged traditional systems by combining
a tourbillon and a long detent escapement with a cable-type
fuse transmission system. This is complemented with an instant
jump, dual time display, complete with day/night modes and
a 72 hour power reserve indication. Visually, this special
timepiece has 62 jewels and a domed crystal in the 45.50mm
GAME CHANGER
Gaming Industry Boom –
The Rise Of
The Next
Entertainment Market
According to Reuters, gaming is now the world’s favorite form
of entertainment, when compared to TV, movies and music.
TM | MARCH/APRIL 2019
108

While TV is experiencing significant decline – TV
revenues fell by 8% last year – the gaming sector’s
sales are increasing at an annual rate of 10.7%. In
China, game sales are climbing 14% per year, an alltime
high from a single growth market. Games are being played by
millions of people every day on their mobile, computers and consoles.
One of the reasons why gaming is so popular is the millennials,
i.e. those born between 1981 to 2000. Although gaming started
more than 25 years ago, with Nintendo games on Atari and later
on PlayStation, millennials find that gaming is more exciting,
especially with the introduction of a powerful laptop with gaminggrade
graphics and peripherals. The rise in the popularity of gaming
is creating opportunities on a few fronts: game developers, game
device suppliers, semiconductor companies, merchandisers and
many more.
“As video game engagement continues to grow, it could mean big
returns for investors interested in the space,” quoted Samantha
Greenberg, Chief Investment Officer and Managing Partner of
Margate Capital Management on CNBC. As technology expands, so
will gaming content, products, virtual reality (VR), special events
and video game tournaments. These are just some of the ways the
industry is turning into a ‘recurring revenue model’ and capitalizing
on great demand. Gamers around the world would likely spend
USD138 billion on games in 2018, according to Newzoo’s Global
Games Market Report. The market research firm tracks usage and
trends of video games, mobile and eSports. The figure represents a
13.3% increase year-to-year or an extra USD16.2 billion.
Competitive eSports events are increasing as well. PGI 2018 or
Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, a gaming tournament, brought
competitors from all over the world to Berlin for a grand prize of
USD2million, the largest in the tournament’s history. One of the
main reasons for the popularity of the industry is that it is cheaper
than going to the movies or subscribing to cable TV, as some of the
games are free online. The dominance of gaming in our culture is
evident in the reversal of the past relationships between the gaming
industry and Hollywood and publishers. It used to be that games
were developed from popular movies and books. Now it is often
109 MARCH/APRIL 2019 | TM

GAME CHANGER
the other way around. In 2017, both Angry Birds and Assassin’s
Creed were released as movies, years after they were launched as
successful games.
Closer to home in Malaysia, we have major eSports competitions,
notably the ESL One Genting 2018 and The Kuala Lumpur Major
2018. The Asia Pacific Predator League, which recently concluded
its second edition in Bangkok (DOTA 2 and PUBG) in February
2019, involved 16 countries across the region with 3,530 eSports
teams and a total prize pool of USD400,000. One of the dedicated
brands in providing hardware that lives up to gaming demand
standards is Predator by Acer, which is highly recognized among
pro gamers, gaming enthusiasts and the various stakeholders in
the gaming industry. Acer continuously engages with the gaming
communities to obtain feedback, and then incorporate these desired
features and performance into the new devices to partner gamers to
achieve the next level performance. The Predator line is designed
for such purpose, to complement gamers, to bring gaming to new
heights.
Hazman Hassan, CEO and Co-Founder of KITAMEN Malaysia
states that “Gaming is a lifestyle.” Together with his COO, Fahmi
“Moshi” Sairuz, they are now collaborating with Media Prima
Digital to develop the first Campus eSports Championship in
Malaysia. The Campus eSports Championship encourages colleges
and universities to participate with a grand prize of RM180,000.
Organized by MyGameOn and sponsored by Media Prima Digital,
Celcom Axiata Berhad and Predator, the tournament will be played
in 5 zones throughout the country. The grand prize can be won by
participation in any of the 3 categories: Mobile Legends Bang Bang,
Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 and DOTA 2.
Asia Pacific Predator League 2019 - Malaysian Champion for
DOTA2 with Acer Malaysia Director of Consumer Business
and Product Johnson Seet
“Malaysia has one of the more dynamic ecosystems in Southeast Asia
for gaming,” says Johnson Seet, Director of Consumer Business and
Product, Acer Malaysia. “According to MDEC, worldwide gaming
itself is worth USD180.1billion and growing. Currently, Malaysia
ranked in the 21st position in terms of global game revenue in 2017,
at an estimated value of USD587million.”
eSports has gained recognition worldwide to the extent that it has
received official recognition as a medal sport in SEA GAMES 2019
TM | MARCH/APRIL 2019
and a full-medal event in the 2022 Asia Games. Paris
2024 Olympics organizers are keen to explore eSports
as a demonstration sport and the International Olympic
Committee is open to explore the inclusion of eSports
into the Olympics. In Malaysia, there is an estimated
2.4 million eSports athletes and a total of 9.5 million
in Southeast Asia; this number is predicted to increase
by two-fold this year. Positively, the entire ecosystem
has created plenty of job opportunities and demand for
gaming coaches, team managers, eSports organizers and
managers who understand the technicalities, cosplayers
and their costume makers, castors, not forgetting the new
game developers, testers and reviewers as well as graphic
designers. Looking at the recent allocation of RM10million
in the Malaysia Budget 2019 for eSports, the future for the
gaming industry in Malaysia is looking bright. TM
Introducing
the Lamborghini
Aventador S
The bench mark for super
sports cars everywhere
Words by Swathe Shanmugaraj
Images by Automobili Lamborghini
113 MARCH/APRIL 2019 | TM

THE DRIVE
Visionary, powerful, sleek and dynamic;
there are not enough adjectives to describe
the beauty of the latest Lamborghini
Aventador S. It has a new aerodynamic
design, redeveloped suspension, increased power and
new driving dynamics. The ‘S’ acts as the suffix of the
previously enhanced Lamborghini thus defining a new
benchmark for the V12 Lamborghini.
Six years since the original Aventador, this new sports car
had been introduced at the Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur
Showroom by Mr Davide Sfrecola, the Area Sales
Manager for the Asia Pacific Region for Automobili
Lamborghini and Mr Marcus Chye, Chief Operations
Officer of Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur.
The design of the new Aventador S is the face of the
new Aventador generation. It features a few exterior
developments, especially in the front and rear. However,
the profile still has that dynamic Aventador look.
The Lamborghini Centro Stile has modified several
components of the car to meet the maximum aerodynamic
efficiency.
Additionally, the car pays perfect homage with the
iconic elements integrated such as the arched rear
wheel reminiscent of the original Countach. The front
downforce improved by more than 130% compared to
the previous Aventador coupé. Additionally, when the
wing is in its optimum position, the overall efficiency at
high downforce improves over 50% and in low drag by
more than 400% compared to the earlier models.
TM | MARCH/APRIL 2019
114

The Aventador S maintains the Aventador’s extremely
rigid and one of a kind, lightweight carbon fibre
monocoque with attached aluminium frames ensuring
a dry weight of just 1575kg. The biggest evolution
of the Aventador S is the four wheel drive, active
suspension, four wheel steering system and EGO
driving mode.
Developed around a ‘total control concept’, the Aventador
S provides a superior drive, ride and performance. The
enhanced lateral control comes from the new four wheel
steering that was adopted for the first time on a series
production Lamborghini. It ensures improved agility at
low and medium speeds as well as more stability at high
speeds.
There are four different modes for the drive to choose
from including the STRADA, SPORT, CORSA and the
new, EGO mode. These modes have been recalibrated
to improve the ESC integration with all-wheel drive
and the interface between engine torque management
system as well as traction control reaction. The EGO
driving mode option allows several additional or
individual set up profiles that are customizable by
the drive. This enables them to select their preferred
criteria for traction, steering and suspension.
115 MARCH/APRIL 2019 | TM

THE DRIVE
The 12 cylinder, 6.5 litre engine outputs an additional 40hp compared to its
predecessor to a maximum of 740hp and 690Nm of torque at 5500 rpm. This
super sports car can accelerate from 0-100km.h in just 2.9 seconds and has a top
speed of 350km/h. The transmission is by Lamborghini’s lightweight Independent
Shifting Rod (ISR) seven speed shifting system that gives robotised gear shifts in
up to 50 milliseconds.
Finally, the cockpit of the Aventador S comes with new functions and refinement.
The TFT digital dashboard is customisable, with the standard AppleCarPlay
system. The Lamborghini telemetry system is an optional specification that
can record lap times and track driving performance, perfect for the owner who
wants to keep their car on track. TM
