Learning, Listening, Living
Inspired by our landscape…
We started the year with an exciting
residential in Snowdonia but last month, Yellow Class learnt that they could be
inspired by our landscape, a little closer to home! With the help of
experienced outdoor educators from Arthog Outreach, they went on a guided
walk up the Wrekin. Along the way, they learnt some bushcraft skills and
thought about tools, housing and food sources for people living in the Stone
Age to Iron Age period. This not only brought
history to life but the children enjoyed some
beautiful early Spring weather and hopefully
became more familiar with an important
feature of our local area.
We love planning rich learning opportunities
like this – using the outdoors whenever
possible and increasing the children’s skills
and knowledge. Next month Green Class will be having a ‘Victorian’ school
day to help them explore their topic – we won’t be leaving our school
grounds but hopefully doing Drill, Rote learning and the ‘discipline of the
cane and dunce hat’ will be an experience which will bring history alive too.
This half term we have some exciting curriculum themes:
Red Class: Year R and Year 1 – On the Farm
We will be thinking about farm animals and how our food is grown. We will
be learning about the farms that are near us in Cressage.
Green Class: Year 2 and Year 3 – Victorians
We will be learning about life for children in Victorian times – school and work – as well as notable Victorians
such as Florence Nightingale.
Yellow Class: Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 – From Stone Age to Iron Age What did Cressage and area look like in
the Iron Age?
April brings National Offer Day for Reception places and we look forward to being in contact with the many
families who have chosen us for their children. We plan four introduction visits for children in the Summer
term and will be in touch with you soon about those. There are also opportunities to meet the School Office
and for a Home Visit, so we can learn as much as possible about your child before they start. News about
school places, also gets people thinking about younger children starting (perhaps in September ’20), it’s
never too soon to think about such an important decision - I would love to show you around – you don’t
need to wait for an ‘Open Morning’.
Remember we are the catchment school for many villages: Cressage, Cross Houses, Harley, Cound,
Coundmoor and Sheinton but we also have children attending from further afield. We work closely with
Childrensworld UK who are onsite and offer an “Outstanding” (Ofsted) nursery and wrap-around childcare
for before/after school and the holidays. They are open 8am until 6pm. Ring the office for more details on
