Last month,<br />
the Naples middle<br />
school program travled<br />
to Fort Myers for a spring training<br />
aseball game. We had a blast taking<br />

in the game and Jake Jaffe even caught<br />
a ball!<br />

BBYO will be participating<br />
in BBYO’s<br />
international day of<br />
giving called JServe. Our cause this<br />
year is to create awareness and assist the<br />
homeless children in our area. There are<br />
approximately 800 homeless children<br />
in need of food every day when they<br />
<strong>April</strong> <strong>2019</strong> <strong>Federation</strong> <strong>Star</strong><br />
leave school in Naples. If you would<br />
like to help our cause, please donate<br />
food or, preferably, gift cards to restaurants<br />
and grocery stores. Drop them<br />

<strong>April</strong> Happenings<br />
Our Rosh Chodesh Women’s Study<br />
Group will meet on Sunday, <strong>April</strong> 7 at<br />
10:00 a.m. Lynne Marie Laval-Yeh is<br />
facilitating, speaking on “Environmental<br />
Issues for People of Faith.” How did<br />
we get where we are and what can we<br />
do about it? Attention will be paid to<br />
Judaism’s special ability to wrestle with<br />
challenging issues and to discover solutions.<br />

As we have recently done during the<br />
spring months, we will offer a three-part<br />
Jewish film series. On Thursday, <strong>April</strong><br />
11, Elliott Gould narrates the Emmy<br />
Award-winning documentary A Yiddish<br />
World Remembered, which revisits<br />
the beautiful Eastern European Jewish<br />
world before the horrifying aftermath<br />
of World War II. Using rare archival<br />
films, vintage photos, personal recollections,<br />
traditional cantorial and more,<br />
it becomes an emotional portrayal of<br />
Jewish traditions, religious treasures,<br />
the fascinating language of Yiddish, and<br />

Our annual Chametz Bash takes<br />
place on Thursday, <strong>April</strong> 18 at 6:00<br />
p.m. This fun meal allows us to rid our<br />
homes of foods we will not be eating<br />
during Pesach. We request that such<br />
unopened packages of food be donated<br />
to the food pantry at the Naples Senior<br />
Center at JFCS. Bring your donations<br />
by <strong>April</strong> 18 to Beth Tikvah, enjoy the<br />
meal, and we will get the donations to<br />
the food pantry. Those soon heading to<br />
your northern homes can take this opportunity<br />
to clear out your Naples kitchens.<br />
The cost for the event is $10 for<br />
adults, $6 for children, with a $33 family<br />

As usual, we will hold a Kosher<br />
First Seder at Beth Tikvah. The Seder<br />
on Friday, <strong>April</strong> 19 will begin after a<br />
7:00 p.m. Shabbat/Erev Pesach service.<br />
The cost is $85 for members and $100<br />
for nonmembers; under 13 is half price.<br />

The next morning, our Shabbat/<br />
Yom Tov service will begin at 9:30 a.m.<br />
We will conclude our Pesach week on<br />

Friday services begin at 6:15 p.m. “In<br />
season” they follow a “social hour” beginning<br />
at 5:30 p.m. Enjoy friendship,<br />
wine and a nibble. Saturday services<br />
begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude with<br />
a Kiddush luncheon. Each Sunday<br />
through winter and early spring we<br />
offer a minyan at 9:00 a.m.We convene<br />
Yahrzeit minyanim upon request.<br />

Torah Completion<br />
On February 4, we joined together to<br />
celebrate the beginning of a new Torah<br />
scroll that would embody the exceptional<br />
unity of the Naples community.<br />
This scroll was commissioned exclusively<br />
for, and sponsored by, Patricia<br />
Adkins and the Chabad Naples and<br />
Preschool of the Arts community. The<br />
Torah’s completion at a communitywide<br />
celebration on Sunday, March 31<br />
at 3:30 p.m., is the joyous culmination<br />
of that amazing group effort and a testament<br />
to our special Naples community,<br />
Chabad Naples and Preschool of the<br />
Arts family. We take great pleasure in<br />
inviting you to attend the monumental<br />
dedication Ceremony and Celebration<br />
of the writing of a new Torah scroll in<br />
honor of the entire community-at-large<br />
of Southwest Florida.<br />
