At the divya and bhavya Prayagraj Kumbh 2019, the Naga sadhus who raced<br />
and plunged into the frigid waters of the holy Ganges during Shahi Snan<br />
were the cynosure of all eyes.<br />
Kumbh Mela held in Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik—the four<br />
places on earth where amrit or nectar spilled after samudra manthan—is a<br />
centuries-old religious congregation. Recognised by UNESCO in December<br />
2017 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Kumbh Mela has<br />
grown around the belief that by bathing in the holy rivers at these four places,<br />
pilgrims can wash away their sins.<br />
