Hamburg Knights of Columbus
Hamburg Council #2220, chartered in 1920, is one of the
oldest Councils in Western New York. Next year will be
their centennial anniversary as a Catholic fraternal organization
offering life and other insurance to fellow Knights
and their families, and are committed to the principles of
Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.
Their numerous charitable works include providing scholarship funds for
catholic education, support of local clergy and church, sponsoring
children's baseball, Hamburg's "Music in the Park", Special Olympics,
Mercy Flight, and other local first responders. They also provide funding
to Sts. Peter and Paul's mission assisting the poor in Appalachia and
support St. Luke's Mission of Mercy by providing volunteers on Code
Blue nights to aid the homeless. They are also a hub of social activity,
staging annual free-throw competitions for boys and girls ages 9 - 14,
along with numerous holiday celebrations.
Buffalo Peace House
The Buffalo Peace House is a non-profit organization located in Athol
Springs, NY with the mission of providing safe and clean housing to
United States asylum seekers. In addition, we also assist our residents
with access to legal counsel, transportation,
educational services and access to medical
care. Founded and are run by Volunteer Director,
Mary Callahan.
Since opening the doors in 2013, they have
housed over 60 asylum seekers from over 17
different countries. All of the residents come
from having faced severe trauma in their home
countries. It is important to provide a safe and peaceful home for this
vulnerable population in order to facilitate their healing as they undergo
the lengthy asylum process. As Pope Francis has said “We have a duty
