Hamburg Knights of Columbus<br />
Hamburg Council #2220, chartered in 1920, is one of the<br />
oldest Councils in Western New York. Next year will be<br />
their centennial anniversary as a Catholic fraternal organization<br />
offering life and other insurance to fellow Knights<br />
and their families, and are committed to the principles of<br />
Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.<br />
Their numerous charitable works include providing scholarship funds for<br />
catholic education, support of local clergy and church, sponsoring<br />
children's baseball, Hamburg's "Music in the Park", Special Olympics,<br />
Mercy Flight, and other local first responders. They also provide funding<br />
to Sts. Peter and Paul's mission assisting the poor in Appalachia and<br />
support St. Luke's Mission of Mercy by providing volunteers on Code<br />
Blue nights to aid the homeless. They are also a hub of social activity,<br />
staging annual free-throw competitions for boys and girls ages 9 - 14,<br />
along with numerous holiday celebrations.<br />
Buffalo Peace House<br />
The Buffalo Peace House is a non-profit organization located in Athol<br />
Springs, NY with the mission of providing safe and clean housing to<br />
United States asylum seekers. In addition, we also assist our residents<br />
with access to legal counsel, transportation,<br />
educational services and access to medical<br />
care. Founded and are run by Volunteer Director,<br />
Mary Callahan.<br />
Since opening the doors in 2013, they have<br />
housed over 60 asylum seekers from over 17<br />
different countries. All of the residents come<br />
from having faced severe trauma in their home<br />
countries. It is important to provide a safe and peaceful home for this<br />
vulnerable population in order to facilitate their healing as they undergo<br />
