He said, “In preparation
The PDP chieftain
pointed out that the
governor’s astute style of
leadership coupled with his
prudent management of
resources had placed the
state in an enviable
position, adding that he has
delivered the dividends of
democracy not only through
infrastructural
development to the masses,
but also through health-care
delivery by way of free
medical care to Deltans,
quality education,
construction of good road
network and provision of
Ex-DELSU VC warns against evil
of globalisation
By Festus Ahon
AVice SABA—FORMER
Chancellor of
Delta State University,
DELSU, Abraka, Prof Uvie
Igun has warned Nigerian
leaders against adapting
globalisation without
jettison the bad aspect of it.
Delivering the third
Distinguished Lecture of
Edwin Clark University,
Kiagbodo, Delta State on
Globalisation And The
Coming Age Of Legalised
Lawlessness: A Focus On
Societal Foundation
Values And Ethics, Igun
said that Nigerian leaders
must choose and adapt the
technology of globalisation,
but reject it’s evil.
He said: “In order to do
so, Nigerian leaders must
be proactive and sharpen
strategies of adaptation
without
being
overwhelmed as some
African countries are
already being ‘held’. The
very recent pressure from
the US for Nigeria to
legalise same sex marriage
or forgo US aid, is a lesson
to the point.”
Insisting that the idea of
developing a society
without God was a descent
into the darkness of
legalised lawlessness, he
said the ongoing process of
globalisation would
inexorably lead to
development worldwide,
and age of legalised
lawlessness built on the
Western derived ethical
foundations of secular
individualism.
Igun said: “And
recognising that the
technological dimensions
of globalisation is neutral,
and desirable, developing
nations must carefully
choose their responses.
Rapid transmission of
cultural ideas and images,
cultures of different
countries and diverse
people are being brought
daily into contact at rates
unprecedented in human
history.”
Earlier in his remarks,
Vice Chancellor of Edwin
Clark University, Prof T.O.
Olagbemiro, said the
University was founded on
Christian principles and
values with focus on
imparting academic and
moral values that would
give students the desired
guidance in areas of
entrepreneurship, selfreliance
and selfemployment
graduation.
Appoint Ndokwa descent as
minister, group begs Buhari
By Ochuko Akuopha
KWALE—A
group,
Ndokwa Study
Group, has urged President
Mohammadu Buhari, to
appoint an Ndokwa descent
as minister from Delta State
in his second term in office.
It lamented that that no
Ndokwa indigene has “Ever
held the position of a
Minister in the Federal
Executive Council since the
amalgamation of Nigeria in
1914, despite the
abundance of eminent
personalities of Ndokwa
extraction who have
distinguished themselves in
virtually all fields of human
endeavour.”
The group, in a statement
by its President Dr. Norris
Ovili and Secretary, Mr
Azubuike Uti, noted that the
Ndokwa nation had
contributed greatly to the
upon
economic development of
the country, decrying that
the people have nothing to
show for their contribution
in terms of federal
infrastructure.
Urging the Federal
Government to address
what it described as the
agelong neglect, the group
reiterated that the peaceful
disposition of the Ndokwa
people was being
undermined by successive
governments.
It appealed to Buhari to
reverse the ugly trend by
ensuring that the coastal
road network from Oko in
Oshimili South Local
Government Area to Okpai
to Aboh to Onyah to Asaba-
Ase to Patani in Patani Local
Government Area was
constructed without
further delay as a way of
boosting economic
activities in the area.
