Dear Parents and Students: 

Before each academic year begins, Penn offers special educational discounts on notebooks, tablets, 

desktops, and software to the University. If you are thinking of buying a new system, I encourage you 

to consider the University’s Back-to-School Sale offerings to ensure your new hardware meets your 

needs while at Penn. Penn’s Computer Connection, a University-operated store that makes technology 

products available to the campus community, conducts this sale. 

While there is never a requirement to purchase your new computer from Penn, the University strives to 

provide real advantages. The notebooks, tablets, and desktops in the Back-to-School Sale are selected 

carefully for Penn’s technology environment, and their reliability consistently exceeds that of many 

systems advertised elsewhere. Furthermore, if these systems need support, it is often more readily 

available. Year after year, feedback from students and parents indicates that they are appreciative of 

the many differentiating features of the notebooks in this sale: multi-year warranties, international 

at-your-location repair services, lighter weights, and longer battery life—and coverage for accidental 

damage is an option on most models. 

Also important to note is an agreement between the University and Microsoft that allows all students 

currently enrolled at Penn the ability to install Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus free of charge. This software 

suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote for both macOS and Windows. 

Instructions on how to download Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus are available on Campus Express. 

It’s simple to access these offerings: on or after June 1st, students can log in to Campus Express at 

campusexpress.upenn.edu and go to “Books and Computers.” Among the many tasks you can handle at 

Campus Express—housing, dining, transportation, etc.—you will be able to charge technology purchases 

to a credit card or your University account through the Office of Student Financial Services. You can 

request your notebook or tablet to be delivered to your home or have it held for you at Penn for pick 

up at the store.
