Task<strong>en</strong>t Nature Park (TNP) is a privately funded,<br />
non-profit, social responsibility project founded<br />
in Kyr<strong>en</strong>ia in February 2016. The initial objective<br />
of the TNP was to create awar<strong>en</strong>ess of wildlife<br />
and nature conservation in Cyprus.<br />
Once the number of young and injured wild<br />
animals brought to the park multiplied, a need<br />
for a professional wildlife rehabilitation c<strong>en</strong>tre<br />
in Cyprus was realised, and so the Wildlife<br />
Rescue & Rehabilitation C<strong>en</strong>tre (WRRC) was<br />
established in July 2016.<br />
In February 2017 WRRC was asked to rehabilitate a Loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) by<br />
Near East University Animal Hospital, marking the foundation date of the Cyprus Marinelife<br />
C<strong>en</strong>tre (CMC).<br />
The growing need for a hospital and laboratory specialising in Wildlife in Cyprus was<br />
understood by the expanding team of professionals in WRRC and CMC. This resulted in the<br />
decision to establish a purpose specific Wildlife Hospital & Research Laboratory (WHRL)<br />
which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2019.<br />
The developm<strong>en</strong>t of all these structures has led to the formation of the Cyprus Wildlife<br />
Research Institute (CWRI) in 2018 as the coordinating authority for all these organisations.<br />
The Cyprus Wildlife Research Institute actively conducts research which is pres<strong>en</strong>ted in the<br />
following pages.<br />
The CWRI is aware of the importance of human resources in order to undertake systematic,<br />
multi-disciplinary, long-term surveys of wildlife and habitats. For this reason, CWRI invites<br />
both national and international volunteers from any background to train on subject specific<br />
skills and knowledge thus, to participate in the observation and conservation of wildlife in<br />
Cyprus. Project funding for CWRI is sought at all levels in order to maintain and expand its<br />
capacity as a state-of-the-art rescue, rehabilitation, release and research (4R’s) facility.<br />
This report is mainly a review of all 4R’s carried out within WRRC and CMC throughout 2018<br />
which also marks the first publication of the CWRI Annual Report, to be published annually.<br />
