Our true art and virtuosity as photographers lays in conveying that which we see beyond the image 

itself, and not simply what light and speed can give us through our lenses. A symphony of color, 

texture, shadow, movement, light, or stillness, is what produces what we truly seek to capture and 

convey. 

An image is nothing other than a translation of the experiences we wish to share from our very own perspective 

as photographers. This undoubtedly applies to any type of photography; and those of us who 

are lucky to have discovered the endless beauty of our natural surroundings, would love nothing other 

than to reproduce each pounding heartbeat we live when finding an animal in its natural habitat, or the 

feeling of breathlessness when the sun hits a magical scene as a perfect natural “spotlight”. 

COVER PHOTO: A magical combination of textures that create mysticism and a dash of shocking color 

caught my attention immediately. 

Blessed. That’s the word that comes to mind when shooting out in the field and when experiencing 

mesmerizing photos from my fellow “moment seekers”. We are blessed. We actually got it! We got how incredibly 

rich this world is in experiences, we got the magic there is out there in things maybe completely 

disregarded by others, and furthermore, we sought the chance to share it, creating moments for others, 

and even better, awareness of our surroundings, hopefully resulting in the desperately needed care this 

world needs to not lose it all, at the blink of an eye. 

Continue doing your magic, people. What you are doing has a positive snowball effect you may not have 

been aware of, but you give people smiles, moments, a reason for admiring this earth, hence a reason 

for protecting it. 

So, do as we all must in learning the technicality of it all, how to play with all the necessary elements to 

capture the right image, to then go back to basics and simply let your instinct do its job and excel at what 

you do. Forget about that higher-end camera and prime lens you’re waiting for to get the perfect shot. 

The magic you convey, is already within you.

Happiness is in the Little Things 

Have you ever stopped to think what it is you 

want in life to finally feel like you’ve made it? 

We all have an ever-elusive single achievement 

that will make our circle of life complete. But 

guess what? It’s a circle…It’ll come, and go, and it’s 

within our very own hedonistic nature that we owe 

it to ourselves to find our path. 

Thanks to photography, I finally discovered that all 

those immense pleasures I was seeking, were not 

the answer. I rather learned that every little thing 

around me, has the capacity to bring a smile to my 

face. 

I majored in Advertising and Marketing, seeking a 

little balance between my inquisitive and creative 

instincts. I took delight in the concept of color and 

texture, and how I could capture them through my

camera, which I set aside for many years in pursuit of other “goodies”; you know: a house, a luxury car, and that 2.5 kids we’re all taught as our 

measure of success. 

I finally reencountered my camera 5 years ago, when I discovered that while others were looking to the immensity of amazing sunsets, there 

was a whole universe happening at my fingertips, and much smaller than my fingertips, I must add. 

Life changed ever since, it all became an adventure of discovery and excitement. Learning from the best experts in the world about how light 

is everything in photography: your friend and your foe; one you must learn to understand better than any ultramodern, expensive gadget. 

It is within these tiny universes my little creatures live in, where I understood the insignificance of my own. Macrophotography is to me, the 

root of a proper (happy) visual and emotional perspective of life. I have fallen in love with life, and every little thing it has to experience.

ROGER BRENDHAGEN 

Location: Norway 

Imagine having the world as your office. Imagine 

your models not caring one iota about their 

appearance. This is the fortunate situation, Roger 

Brendhagen finds himself in, approximately 300 

days of the year. Although born in Oslo in 1968, this 

Nature Photographer extraordinaire and his family 

later moved northwards, settling in the beautiful 

countryside province of Hedemark. The forestry, 

wildlife, mountains, rivers and valleys of this area 

certainly played a role in Roger’s choice of photographic 

themes. Roger has photographic affiliations 

with Nikon and the World Wildlife Federation 

(WWF). He has extensive experience taking nature 

photos and submitting articles to both magazines 

and newspapers, amongst these the Norwegian Vi 

Menn, A-Magasinet, Aftenposten and Dagbladet as 

well as many others spread across Europe. 

During the rare periods that Roger is not travelling 

the world, he spends a good deal of time in 

the Dovrefjell mountain range, his second home,

ing both this amazing animal as well as the small mountain fox. 

Roger takes as much pleasure shooting images of a tiny Bullfinch, 

high up in the Norwegian mountains, as he does flitting about 

the Australian outback, capturing images of Emus or Koala Bears 

with his telephoto lens. 

Where most people would shy away, Brendhagen prefers to get 

close up and take macro photography of both venomous and 

constrictor snakes. 

He often holds courses and workshops in macro and nature photography, 

reaching almost 6000 participants in 2015. Recently 

Roger has had many exhibitions of his photographic work 

taken from the Antarctic in the south to Svalbard in the north. 

Brendhagen is a jury member at various photo competitions, 

often taking part in them. He has won several prizes, including 

an award during Nordic Nature Photo Contest.

I have photographed the Arctic foxes for over 10 years - and there has been one image that I have been dreaming 

about: The Arctic fox under the full moon. But with aprox 150 foxes in Norway, and only one full moon in 

every month, it’s not an easy task… It took almost 10 years to manage it!

Q- How did you first get into photography? 

I started my carrier as a wildlife photographer for almost twenty years ago – and before that I used 

the forest as my “relax area”. I have always been fascinated by the nature – and I took the chance to 

explore the opportunity to be a professional photographer quit late in my life. I was 30 when I started. 

Q- According to you, what makes an award winning shot? 

Planning, planning and planning! 

The most cherished moment, I had a picture in my head for more than 10 years that I wanted to 

capture. There are only about 150 arctic foxes in the Norwegian mountains and the full moon is up 

in these regions only once a month. My dream was to capture an arctic fox in front of the full moon. 

After a long wait and countless attempts, couple years ago I succeeded! That was fantastic!

This date I will always remember. Inside my head there are many pictures. Some of them I have taken 

- and yet others have not yet “come out”. After ten years of waiting I got my reward. The pictures I 

was dreaming about was the Arctic fox under the full moon, or “in it” of you like. I haven’t been at 

mountains of Dovre every time it has been a full moon - but there have been many hit & miss trips in 

the ten years I’ve tried. Some of the times the weather forecast reported nice conditions and a clear 

sky. After 400 kilometers in the car I often reached the mountains in low clouds and a foggy weather. 

But most of the time the conditions were great - but then the Arctic foxes was missing...

Q- What inspires you about wildlife photography? 

Primarily it is the love of nature. And of course the 

power to connect with people and spread knowledge 

through my pictures. The beautiful country side that I 

live in is full of photographic possibilities with forestry, 

wildlife, mountains, rivers, and valleys which has 

helped inspire and nurture the photographer in me. 

Q- What are the difficulties faced by a wildlife photographer 

on a regular basis? 

My major challenge is the lack of time! I have so much 

of ideas and so many pictures that I want to capture. 

The spring in Norway and Sweden are quite short and 

nature reacts fast, so that leaves me a lot of places to 

visit in a very short time. Also the more I travel and the 

more I explore, the more I want to capture with my 

camera. My solution is to make a schedule, a plan on 

how to, when and where, I can take the desired picture 

and which one I have to let go and try to get another 

time, another year.

Keep the distance 

It’s a dilemma to photograph the Artic fox – and other spices : As a photographer, 

you want to come as close as possible – and the animals wants us as far away as 

possible. Therefore, it becomes an important reflection for us photographers how 

close, and how long time we stay nearby the fox dens. 

At several of the most famous dens sites, there has been a large amount of nature 

photographers who have stayed in tent only meters from the dens - and spend 

several days in the same area. Therefore, it is important to inform each other about 

where the boundary goes from observing - to and invade. I think it’s better to come 

up with meaningful advice - than a staggering index finger and extension at the 

social media.

Q- What are the techniques you use? 

Technics I use are low angles and perspective. I try to exploit the possibilities of low/ 

lack of light. One of the major techniques you should master is the art of patience 

and I employ a good measure of it. My binoculars are an essential part of my kit. I 

use them to scout the environment, observe their behavior and plan my shots.

Q- How do you link photography and conservation 

in your life? 

I am lucky to have the possibility to choose my 

assignments, that means I can go to places and nd 

species that are endangered. So in my articles, my 

lectures and my pictures I talk about and show the 

consequences of climate change and other human 

factors that have had huge impact on nature and 

animals. My images can bring different species closer 

to people, generating curiosity and spreading the 

awareness about them and show the consequences 

of climate change and other human factors that 

have had huge impact on nature and animals.

Q- Do you have any tips for aspiring wildlife photographers? 

First thing, learn how to use your camera in all different ways. 

You need to invest in a good tele lens. Find your own path 

and nd some species that you like and learn everything 

about them. Only that way will you be able to take pictures 

that are extra ordinary. 

Low perspective - high pulse 

Since I like to have a low perspective, I let my tri pod stay in 

the car. For four reasons. 1. The photo bag is heavy enough 

as it is. 2. The low perspective is mentioned. 3. If I had to 

stand on the mountain plateau with a tripod, I’m visible to 

other mountain hikers - and the chance of a visit of a hikers 

is increasing. 

4. But the main reason is that the animals will not see me. 

That’s why my camouflage is my best friend - in addition 

to a 600mm and 800mm! I use a camouflage called 

“Jervenduken”. It’s a Norwegian brand and its water proof, 

wind stopping and with a good isolation. 

Q- What is your favorite lens? 

I use my Nikon 600/4 in approx. in 70% of my work. 

Q- What do you do to polish your photographic skills? 

I play a lot – I´m willing to experiment with new techniques 

and equipment to take my photographic goals to another 

level. 

Q- What would you say about Capture Mania photography

I love to read – and see pictures from other photographers 

to get inspired – and Capture Mania photography magazine 

helps me with that!

My name is Awais Ali Sheikh. I have done 

my bachelors in Fine Arts from Punjab 

University College of Art & Design. By profession, 

i am a 2D game artist. 

Let me start off by saying that being an artist gives 

you the freedom to do whatever you think. You 

dream and want to execute, so the entire world can 

see the real beauty of Art. 

Everyone has their hobbies. I love to capture those 

moments that remain ignored and untouched by 

humans. Yes, there is a silent world out there which 

is connected to us and we can’t live without it. As 

the slogan goes: “Save Natrue, Save Widlife” 

I have been doing wildlife photography for last 

8 years in Pakistan. I do it on my own without 

the help of any organisation. Its my love, my life.

I 

have been in love with the bush and photography 

for most of my life. What I present on my site 

is my passion – the beauty of Africa through my 

lens. 

I always say, “Work with what you have.” Often in 

photography it turns out conditions are not absolutely 

perfect. After all, every photographer I know 

LIVES for the time where all the planets align and 

the conditions are perfect. As a professional photographer 

I can count on one hand the number of 

times this has happened to me. 

In the case of the Johnny Walker photo, which 

turned out to be a Getaway magazine finalist for 

2016, I did not discover the uniqueness of the 

photo until much later when I was reviewing the 

shots of the day. The bottom line is to show up with 

the right equipment, lots of patience and a bit of 

luck (some snacks are also helpful) and hopefully 

end the day with a few nice shots.

Although I am an Interior Designer by profession 

my real passion is photography in general 

but Travel, Nature and Wild photography 

in particular. To me photography is synonymous 

with oxygen, as I have to make a few clicks of camera 

everyday to keep my spirit satisfied and healthy. 

For me photography is not just a hobby, rather for 

me it is a tool of insight into nature. I specialize in 

insect photography, with the gift of seeing nature 

differently, I see insects as objects of beauty, which 

are as beautiful as any other element of nature and 

worthy of being photographed. 

This passion does not only make me see things 

differently, but it is a means of introspection for 

me as well. With every angle, every frame and with 

every shutter of the lens, it is actually an aspect of 

my personality and the gift I was born with; that 

unravels to me. It might seem a cliché, but photography 

is what I like to do, it is what I was born to do 

and wishe to continue doing it for the foreseeable 

future so that more and more people could see the 

world as I see it and the wild that is worthy of being 

praised and cherished.

My name is Lina Cristina Escovar Alfaro 

Haselof and I am an amateur photographer 

and I love photography. As a child, 

my first contact with photography was through 

my father when he acquired an analogue Leica 

machine and after photographing, he made the 

revelation at home. As a teenager I got my first 

machine, a Kodak xereta and in adulthood my 

first analog DSLR was a Canon and my first digital 

was a 3 megapixel Olympus and since 2000 I only 

use DSLR Full frame from Nikon. I have always 

been passionate about photography and I refer to 

photographers such as Ansel Adams, Ernst Haas, 

Dorothea Lange, Cartier Bresson, Annie Leibovitz, 

Sebastião Salgado, Araquém de Alcântara among 

others. My preference in photography is for nature, 

but I do not rule out entering the world of portraits 

... I conclude my presentation with the phrase of 

the photographer Annie Leibovitz: “If I did not have 

my camera to remind me constantly that I’m here 

to do this. I would have derailed, I think. I would 

have forgotten my reason for existing. “

Sciences through out my life then after studying
