Trustee’s Corner...
This year I have the honor and privilege of once
again of chairing the 2019 installment of the Nassau
County Detectives Association Annual Picnic
which will be held on Thursday June 20th 2019
at Eisenhower Park Field 6A. Festivities begin at
High Noon and go through 5:00pm with an after
party to follow this year at The Garden Social Bar
and Grill located on Hempstead Turnpike directly
across from the entrance/exit of Eisenhower
Park (The Old Callahan’s Bar). There are a good
amount of vendors that are anxious to participate
in this event. There is also great food, Live Music
all day and everyone’s favorite **Beer Garten**
will once again be showcased during this event.
This year we have a few added surprises for all to
enjoy including some different food selections. As
always, many hands make for little work so please
come down and help your fellow Detectives and
our Retired Detectives by setting up, cooking,
serving and breaking down. This is especially a
great event for our new Detectives. There is no
better to learn about the Detective Division and
what we do then to be surrounded by the men
and women who have done the job and those
who continue to do the job. It is also a great way
to network and meet new friends while enjoying
the day. Save the date and come down and help
celebrate the Detective Division and its 67th Anniversary
Picnic.
POLICE MEMORIAL WEEK
As with every year in May we remember those
men and women who have made the supreme
sacrifice by giving their lives in the line of duty.
I was honored and proud to attend the New York
State F.O.P. ceremony in Hicksville on May 4th,
2019 and at the time of this article I hope to attend
the NCPD memorial on May 16th, 2019. The
large crowd numbering in the several hundred’s
braved the poor weather to honor our fallen. It is
incredibly sad to see that we add more members
every year to the local, state and federal police
memorial sites do to the after effects of 9/11 and
the illnesses the events of that day have caused.
Please keep all of our brethren in your thoughts
and prayers during this year’s observances. Rest
in Peace!
MEMORIAL DAY 2019
As we pay our respects to our departed law enforcement
brothers and sisters who had made
the supreme sacrifice we also should reflect and
pay our respects to those men and women in the
United States Armed Forces who had made the
supreme sacrifice in defense of our nation and
our way of life. Semper Fi!
THE AMERICAN LEGION TURNS 100
On that note I would like to thank the kind words
that I received in a letter from the American
Legion , Nassau County Police Post 1050 Commander
Dan Scheidel several weeks ago thanking
me for remembering the Veterans in the articles I
pen in the Squeal Desk every issue. It is not only
my pleasure but my duty to keep Veterans issues
at the forefront of attention for our members and
their families. Commander Dan can use all of our
help at this time as Post 1050 has fallen on some
hard times with their membership ranks along
with financial difficulties. Please refer to my next
segment to get involved in these Veterans organizations.
There are membership opportunities for
persons who want to help veteran’s organizations
and did not serve in the military such as (Sons
and Daughters of the American Legion and Legion
and VFW Auxiliaries respectively).
ATTENTION ALL VETERANS
Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Coast
Guardsmen and National Guardsmen get involved
in continuing to serve your country by
joining your local Veterans organizations. The
Hans Richter
American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and
Am Vets are just a few veterans organizations that
help support not only national programs but also
local community programs that help your fellow
Veterans, community members and the youth of
our communities which is the lifeblood of our nation.

know it, Nassau County Police has its own American
Legion Post # 1050 and also a brand new organization
called the Nassau Police Veterans Association,

always I urge not only the delegates, but the entire
membership to let me know if one of our Veteran
members is being deployed, returning home or
just needs assistance of any kind.
NEWS FROM THE N.C. LEGISLATURE
On May 6th 2019 at the N.C Legislature sub-committee
hearing on Veterans and Senior Affairs a
resolution proposal No.: 113-19 was discussed
and tabled for further review. This proposal was
drafted to provide a tuition reimbursement program
at Nassau Community college or any other
accredited college within Nassau County to the
surviving dependent family members of a Nassau
County resident who served in the military OR
was a Nassau County First Responder, and who
has died been declared missing in action or has
become severely or permanently disabled while
performing official duties.
The Legislative committee will be monitoring this
proposed resolution for the membership and will
report back to you once it has been acted on.
