RAYMOND B. BATCHELDER rites BARRE TOWN —<br />

The largely-attended graveside service to honor and celebrate<br />

the life of Raymond B. Batchelder, 83, of Ridgewood<br />

Terrace, was held on Friday, July 5, 20<strong>19</strong>, at 10 a.m. in the<br />

Plain-Mont Cemetery in East Montpelier. He passed away on<br />

Thursday, June 27, 20<strong>19</strong>, at his home. Raymond’s home<br />

lodge, Wyoming Lodge #80 F&AM of Plainfield, presented<br />

the Masonic Memorial Service in his honor. Worshipful<br />

Master was Palmer Martin, Senior Warden was Bill Durkee,<br />

Junior Warden was Conrad Dix and Chaplain was Charles<br />

Codling. Following the service, family and friends gathered<br />

at the Canadian Club of Barre for a time of fellowship and<br />

luncheon. The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7<br />

Academy St., Barre, was in charge of the arrangements.<br />

JAMES W. BENWAY, 55, of Young Road, passed away on<br />

Tuesday, Aug. 13, 20<strong>19</strong>, at his home, with his family surrounding<br />

him. Born April 11, <strong>19</strong>64, in Barre, he was the son<br />

of Albert and Charlene (Farrell) Benway. James attended<br />

local elementary schools and graduated from Williamstown<br />

High School in <strong>19</strong>82. After graduation, he worked for Burrell<br />

Roofing for over 20 years. In his spare time, he was a car<br />

enthusiast, reading magazines and going to car shows. He<br />

specifically loved muscle cars. Survivors include his son and<br />

daughter, Kyle and Moriah Benway; his grandchildren<br />

Oakley and Aurora Benway; his parents Albert and Charlene<br />

Benway; and his brothers Donny and Ricky Benway; as well<br />

as his nieces Genesis, Alyssa and Kaylee Benway. A service to<br />

honor and celebrate his life will be held at the convenience of<br />

his family. The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7<br />

Academy St., Barre, assisted the Benway family with the<br />

ANDREW CASE BONER, 57, died Friday, Aug. 9, 20<strong>19</strong>, at<br />

home, with family by his side. He was born Sept. 18, <strong>19</strong>61, in<br />

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Darryl Anne (Alkire)<br />

and J. Russell Boner. He was raised in London, England,<br />

where he graduated from Eton College. He later earned his<br />

BS in Aeronautical and Aeronautical Engineering from<br />

Purdue University. His first job was with General Dynamics<br />

in Fort Worth, Texas. Mr. Boner earned an MBA at Yale<br />

School of Management and began a long career working for<br />

the international health organization Population Services<br />

International. In Montpelier, he was employed by the<br />

Institute for Sustainable Communities. Survivors include his<br />

parents; his wife of 35 years, Lennette ( Jones), his daughter,<br />

son, sisters, nieces and stepbrother. An open house was held<br />

from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the family home in<br />

Montpelier. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date<br />

in Washington, D.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions<br />

may be made to Smith Center, Cancer Donation<br />

RUTH GALLANT BUZZELL, 91, of White River Junction,<br />

died on Monday, Aug. 5, 20<strong>19</strong>, at the Jack Byrne Center for<br />

Palliative & Hospice Care at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical<br />

Center. She was born on Sept. 20, <strong>19</strong>27, in Websterville, to<br />

Ray Edward Gallant and Rena (McAllister) Gallant. Ruth<br />

had six siblings. Ruth attended Spaulding High School in<br />

Barre from <strong>19</strong>41 to <strong>19</strong>42, then attended Hartford Public High<br />

School, where she graduated in <strong>19</strong>45. She joined the Cadet<br />

Nurse Corps and graduated from Barre City Hospital in<br />

<strong>19</strong>48. Ruth is survived by her stepchildren, sister-in-law,<br />

grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.<br />

Pursuant to her wishes, Ruth will have a graveside service on<br />

Aug. 31, 20<strong>19</strong>, at 11 a.m. in the Maple Hill Cemetery in<br />

Washington, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations<br />

may be made to the Bugbee Senior Center, 262 North<br />

Main St., White River Junction, VT 05001-7027; and the<br />

Quechee Library Association (Wilder Club & Library), <strong>19</strong>57<br />

TERRY RAY COLLINS, 61, died Sunday, Aug. 4,<br />

20<strong>19</strong>, at UMass Medical Center in Worcester,<br />

Massachusetts. He was born Oct. 13, <strong>19</strong>57, in Atlanta,<br />

Georgia, the son of Donald and Jacqueline (Vaughn) Collins.<br />

After his mother died when he was a young child, he was<br />

raised by his grandparents Bill and Sue Collins in Toccoa,<br />

Georgia. Mr. Collins married Cheryl Shwab in Northfield<br />

May 26, <strong>19</strong>85. He made a career in the U.S. Navy and was<br />

deployed during the Gulf War and Desert Storm. He also<br />

earned an associate degree in engineering while serving. He<br />

enjoyed working on cars, fishing, country music, hunting,<br />

barbecue, gardening and playing cards. Survivors include his<br />

wife and two children, siblings, granddaughter, nieces and<br />

nephews. There are no calling hours. The funeral service<br />

with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug.<br />

24, at Kingston Funeral Home, 35 Slate Ave., Northfield. In<br />

lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to<br />

Central Vermont Humane Society, 1589 VT Route 14, East<br />

Montpelier, VT 05651.<br />

JOANNE ELIZABETH (FRICK) CRISMAN, of Peacham,<br />

died Aug. 9, 20<strong>19</strong>, after a lengthy period of declining health.<br />

She was born on March 15, <strong>19</strong>29, the daughter of Harvey and<br />

Olive (Norton) Frick, of New Lenox, Illinois. Raised in a<br />

small farming community, JoAnne aimed high, graduating<br />

from Iowa Wesleyan in <strong>19</strong>50, the first in her family to earn a<br />

college degree. At Wesleyan, she met the love of her life,<br />

Ronald Crisman, whom she married one year after graduation.<br />

This year marked their 68th anniversary. A notable<br />

achievement during her tenure as AAUW president was<br />

drafting and proposing a letter to state governors to enlist<br />

their support in appointing the first female Supreme Court<br />

Justice. Her proposal was passed at a national convention of<br />

AAUW presidents, the letters sent to governors and her<br />

effort widely credited as playing a major role in the appoint-<br />

ment of Sandra Day O’Connor to the bench in <strong>19</strong>81. She<br />

leaves her husband, sons, daughter, grandchildren, and<br />

great-grandchildren. A memorial service in Peacham is<br />

being planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, please give<br />

a donation to Planned Parenthood, The United Way or a<br />

MISTY L. DUNSTER, 38, died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug.<br />

11, 20<strong>19</strong>, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.<br />

Arrangements are pending with Perkins-Parker Funeral<br />

Home and Cremation Service in Waterbury.<br />

MARIAN MORRIS HANCHETT, 91, of Barre, died peacefully<br />

at Barre Gardens, Aug. 7, 20<strong>19</strong>. She was the daughter of<br />

Clayton and Dorothea (Stillwell) Morris. She attended elementary<br />

school in St. Johnsbury and graduated from St.<br />

Johnsbury Academy in <strong>19</strong>46. She attended Lyndon State<br />

College and began her teaching career in Groton. In April<br />

<strong>19</strong>51, an honor was bestowed upon the small community. An<br />

ingenious device brought her classroom into a fourth grade<br />

student’s home, who could not attend school due to a spinal<br />

condition. This arrangement was similar to an inter-office<br />

telephone whereby a house-bound student can participate in<br />

classroom activities by listening and responding. This was<br />

the first successful home-to-school device in New England.<br />

Marian was very proud to have been a large part of this new<br />

device. In <strong>19</strong>51, she married Philip Hanchett. Marian is survived<br />

by three sons, grandchildren, sisters, brother nieces<br />

and nephews. She was a loving mother and grandmother<br />

who enjoyed spending time with her family. The family will<br />

have a graveside memorial service in Groton at a later date.<br />

LINDA (EURBIN) JENNETT, beloved wife, mother,<br />

grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and cherished friend to<br />

many throughout her life, completed her life’s journey on<br />

Aug. 7, 20<strong>19</strong>. Linda was born April 11, <strong>19</strong>41, in Barre,<br />

Vermont, the first child of Harold “Cracker” Eurbin and<br />

Catherine “Kitty” (Mudgett) Eurbin. Linda is survived by<br />

her husband, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces,<br />

nephews and cousins. There will be a memorial gathering<br />

for Linda at the Northfield Country Club from 12 to 3 p.m.<br />

on Saturday, Sept. 14, 20<strong>19</strong>. In lieu of flowers, you may<br />

choose to donate towards a granite bench to be placed at the<br />

Northfield Country Club in Linda’s honor. If you wish to<br />

MARK JOSEPH JOHNSON, age 62, of Montpelier,<br />

Vermont, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 9, 20<strong>19</strong>.<br />

He was born on April 22, <strong>19</strong>57, to Arnold Robert Johnson<br />

and Olive King Johnson, who both predeceased him. He was<br />

a gentle giant, kind and caring. He was devoted to his family.<br />

He loved hunting, fishing and being in the woods. He was<br />

predeceased by his siblings Emily, Arnold, Jennie, Ted,<br />

Michael, Charles and Martha. He is survived by siblings<br />

Margaret Coyle, of Tallahassee, Florida, and David Johnson,<br />

of Island Pond. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews<br />

and family friend and confidant, Alex Anlyan. There will be<br />

no service. His ashes will be interred in the family plot in<br />

Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond. Rest in peace, dear<br />

brother, until we meet again.<br />

RAYMOND G. PAPINEAU, 88, of Bolster<br />

Avenue, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 7,<br />

20<strong>19</strong>, at his home, surrounded by family and friends. Born on<br />

May 28, <strong>19</strong>31, in Penacook, New Hampshire, he was the son<br />

of William and Mary Jane (Chase) Papineau. On March 26,<br />

<strong>19</strong>60, Raymond married Shirley L. Powers in Hardwick.<br />

Following their wedding, they lived in North Montpelier,<br />

before moving to Montpelier in <strong>19</strong>64, where they raised their<br />

family. Raymond is survived by his children, grandchildren,<br />

great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. His funeral service<br />

and celebration of life was held on Saturday, Aug. 17,<br />

20<strong>19</strong>, at 11 a.m. in the Bethany United Church of Christ, 115<br />

Main St., Montpelier. Following the service, a time of fellowship<br />

and refreshments will take place in the church fellowship<br />

hall. A graveside service in the Vermont Veterans<br />

Memorial Cemetery will be held at the convenience of his<br />

family. Contributions in his memory may be made to Central<br />

Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road,<br />

Barre, VT 05641.<br />

ERNEST C. PARRISH — The memorial service for Ernest<br />

C. Parrish, 44, who died Aug. 2, 20<strong>19</strong>, at Massachusetts<br />

General Hospital in Boston, will be held at noon Sept. 8 at<br />

Old West Church in Calais. A full obituary will be published<br />

at a later date.<br />

ROBERT “BOB” ROY — The Lord called our beloved husband<br />

and father, Robert “Bob” Roy, to join Him on the<br />

morning of Aug. 9, 20<strong>19</strong>. Bob was born on Jan. 13, <strong>19</strong>31, in<br />

Barre, as the ninth of 14 children to Oram and Lydia Roy.<br />

Bob graduated from Spaulding High School in June of <strong>19</strong>48.<br />

He met Mary Jane Brennan at a wedding of mutual friends<br />

on July 3, <strong>19</strong>53. They were married on the very same day the<br />

following year and celebrated 65 years of marriage in July.<br />

Bob cherished his extended and immediate family, especially<br />

relishing summer days spent at camp Idle-AWhile in<br />

Woodbury, and attending the many wedding receptions a<br />

large family brings. He loved to fish and hunt, spending<br />

many memorable seasons with his son, Matthew, and longtime<br />

friend, Tim Burke. He played piano by ear, inspiring the<br />

musical career of his son, Brennan. He leaves his devoted<br />

wife, sisters, brothers, sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces,<br />

nephews, and great-grandson. Funeral services for Bob<br />

were held at St. Pius X Church in Essex Junction at 11 a.m.<br />

on Saturday, Aug. 17.<br />
