Greenlife <strong>Golf</strong><br />
The greens are large <strong>and</strong> offer a<br />
considerable variety of p<strong>in</strong> plac<strong>in</strong>gs. The<br />
layout is well def<strong>in</strong>ed by its abundant<br />
vegetation, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g palm trees <strong>and</strong> oaks.<br />
Water features on the 1st <strong>and</strong> 2nd holes <strong>and</strong><br />
there is a river adjacent to the 5th <strong>and</strong> 9th.<br />
The club’s restaurant, El Lago, has a<br />
Michel<strong>in</strong> star.<br />
Greenlife <strong>Golf</strong> Club is a n<strong>in</strong>e-hole par-3<br />
course of 1,142 metres. With narrow, wellprepared<br />
fairways, the holes run from the<br />
shortest at 89 metres to the longest at 169<br />

Turn off the highway about 11 kms east from central <strong>Marbella</strong>. If you are go<strong>in</strong>g towards Málaga you<br />

Guadalm<strong>in</strong>a Norte <strong>Golf</strong> course<br />
The Guadalm<strong>in</strong>a Norte course is generally considered less difficult than its Guadalm<strong>in</strong>a Sur<br />
counterpart, although it covers more terra<strong>in</strong>, is more undulat<strong>in</strong>g, conta<strong>in</strong>s a greater number of trees <strong>and</strong><br />
is protected by more water hazards. The Chopo stream bisects the course from north to south – it<br />
comes <strong>in</strong>to play at the 17th, for example – <strong>and</strong>, as if this weren’t enough, there are lakes at the 7th, 9th,<br />
11th <strong>and</strong> 18th holes. The course was designed by Folco Nardi <strong>and</strong> opened <strong>in</strong> 1972.<br />
The course is one kilometre from San Pedro Alcántara, just past the center of this town, <strong>in</strong> the<br />
direction of Estepona on the A-7 highway.

Short but sweet is the way to describe Cabop<strong>in</strong>o, which offers three par-3s, two par-5s <strong>and</strong> 13 par-4s<br />
<strong>in</strong> its 5,170-metre layout. The course is irrigated with recycled water <strong>and</strong> lakes affect play on the 12th,<br />
13th, 14th <strong>and</strong> 15th holes. The course offers a stiff challenge for high h<strong>and</strong>icap players, who will be<br />
rewarded as they use all the clubs <strong>in</strong> the bag. Low h<strong>and</strong>icappers will have to take risks if they want good<br />
results. The greens are large <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> excellent condition.<br />

Guadalm<strong>in</strong>a Sur <strong>Golf</strong> Course<br />
Guadalm<strong>in</strong>a South, the first 18 of Guadalm<strong>in</strong>a’s 45<br />
holes, was opened way back <strong>in</strong> 1959 <strong>and</strong> is the second<br />
oldest course on the <strong>Costa</strong> <strong>del</strong> <strong>Sol</strong>. Designed by Javier<br />
Arana, this course is characterised by fairways which<br />
w<strong>in</strong>d between mature shade-giv<strong>in</strong>g trees.<br />
The fairways arewide<strong>and</strong>virtually freeofrough.<br />
In2002Guadalm<strong>in</strong>a South was completely<br />
refurbished. It isto all <strong>in</strong>tents <strong>and</strong> purposes a new<br />
course with a new computerised water<strong>in</strong>g system <strong>and</strong><br />
new tees. The greens were all rebuilt <strong>and</strong> the<br />
fairwaysre-laid with turf. The course is one kilometre<br />
from San Pedro Alcántara, just past the center of this<br />

The Royal Las Brisas <strong>Golf</strong> Club is recognised as one of the f<strong>in</strong>est courses <strong>in</strong> Europe. Opened <strong>in</strong> 1968,<br />
it has hosted the World Cup on two occasions, the Spanish Open three times <strong>and</strong> the Mediterranean<br />
Open. For club golfers <strong>and</strong> professionals alike it represents one of the ultimate challenges. Play<strong>in</strong>g here<br />
is a major event for any golfer. A typical Robert Trent Jones design, Las Brisas features raised greens<br />

The first course <strong>in</strong> Europe to stay<br />
open 24 hours a day, the Dama de<br />
Noche takes its name from the<br />
flower<strong>in</strong>g shrub whose fragrance is<br />
only smelt at night-time. The major<br />
<strong>in</strong>novation at this n<strong>in</strong>e-hole par-28<br />
layout is a light<strong>in</strong>g system artfully<br />
sited <strong>in</strong> strategic po<strong>in</strong>ts so as to cast<br />
no shadows, thus obviat<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
need to hack through the darkness<br />

SANTA MARIA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB ESTEPONA<br />
Santa María <strong>Golf</strong> & Country Club’s golf course w<strong>in</strong>ds through a valley, before climb<strong>in</strong>g up the<br />
mounta<strong>in</strong>. The 7th, a par-3, 200-yard monster, is reached from raised tees <strong>and</strong> is followed by a dogleg<br />
right par-5 with water on the right.<br />
The 11th starts from yet another raised tee, skirts a lake <strong>and</strong> ends at a green with a waterfall on the<br />
right. The variable terra<strong>in</strong> means that the first n<strong>in</strong>e holes are shorter <strong>and</strong> more complicated, <strong>and</strong> the<br />
second, longer <strong>and</strong> more relax<strong>in</strong>g. On the A-7 highway, <strong>in</strong> the direction of Málaga, about 11 kilometres<br />

This is a typical Robert Trent Jones design, with its sweep<strong>in</strong>g fairways, abundant bunkers <strong>and</strong> large<br />
undulat<strong>in</strong>g greens. The first few holes require accurate <strong>and</strong> bold tee shots to get clear the rav<strong>in</strong>es <strong>and</strong><br />
gullies. Although the next holes are somewhat easier on the nerves, players should beware the fearsome<br />
11th, a sharp dogleg right with hills <strong>and</strong> valleys. <strong>Golf</strong>ers can enjoy stunn<strong>in</strong>g views from the clubhouse<br />
<strong>and</strong> many of its holes.<br />

Monte Paraíso <strong>Golf</strong><br />
This n<strong>in</strong>e-hole par-three course, located two m<strong>in</strong>utes away from the<br />
centre of <strong>Marbella</strong>, <strong>in</strong> the direction of the mounta<strong>in</strong> <strong>and</strong> close to the<br />
exclusive Sierra Blanca urbanisation, features beautiful sea views. It has<br />
carefully manicured fairways <strong>and</strong> wide greens. The holes range from 71<br />
to 149 metres, with the 3rd, 4th <strong>and</strong> 5th present<strong>in</strong>g most difficulties.<br />
Its layout w<strong>in</strong>ds around hills, lakes <strong>and</strong> slight slopes, while the<br />
<strong>in</strong>stallations are complemented by a putt<strong>in</strong>g area <strong>and</strong> clubhouse.<br />

<strong>Golf</strong> Río Real was designed by the foremost<br />
Spanish golf architect Javier Arana <strong>and</strong> opened <strong>in</strong><br />
1965. A basically flat course slop<strong>in</strong>g gradually<br />
down towards the sea, it is very picturesque. Large trees offer plenty of shade <strong>and</strong> the fairways make<br />
several cross<strong>in</strong>gs of the Río Real river after which this club was named.<br />
SANTA CLARA GOLF<br />
<strong>Golf</strong>ers can appreciate the attention to detail <strong>in</strong> this golf course. The clubhouse, a multi-storey affair,<br />
provides excellent service for the visit<strong>in</strong>g golfer, met <strong>in</strong> the car park with a buggy. The course is ma<strong>in</strong>ly<br />
flat although the 8th rises steeply to the highest po<strong>in</strong>t – the 9th, a par-5 look<strong>in</strong>g down to the<br />
Mediterranean. Santa Clara has large greens <strong>and</strong> long par-threes. Opened <strong>in</strong> 2001, it is located close to<br />
the <strong>Costa</strong> <strong>del</strong> <strong>Sol</strong> Hospital <strong>and</strong> a f<strong>in</strong>e addition to <strong>Marbella</strong>’s golf<strong>in</strong>g family.<br />

Aloha<br />
Aloha was designed by Javier Arana <strong>and</strong> features a wide variety of holes. Most of the fairways are fairly<br />
wide, though danger lurks on either side, but the greens are tricky, especially the par-five 10th with its<br />
adjacent lake. In recent years the club has benefitted from several improvements, namely replanted<br />
fairways <strong>and</strong> a refurbishment of the clubhouse <strong>and</strong> chang<strong>in</strong>g rooms. In 2007, 2008 <strong>and</strong> 2012 the club<br />
hosted the Andalucian Open, on the European Tour.
