It looked somewhat sad,<br />
it was cold to the touch<br />
<strong>The</strong> robot had opened a little square hatch<br />
in his side, where was coiled<br />
a lead and a plug<br />
Tom carefully unwound it<br />
to the living room rug<br />
where he unplugged a lamp,<br />
thrust it into the socket<br />
Charged the metal man up,<br />
then rolled it back in the pocket<br />
He ran up the stairs<br />
as the man whirred and whined<br />
In moments, he straightened,<br />
his head then inclined<br />
To the top <strong>of</strong> the stairs,<br />
where Tom waved back, scared<br />
But <strong>The</strong> Man waved right back,<br />
then the door he repaired.<br />
With a springier sound<br />
than metal scraping the ground<br />
he walked sprightly away<br />
with a step and a bound<br />
Tom watched from the door<br />
as the man closed the gate<br />
<strong>The</strong>n with a whistle moved on,<br />
to a curious fate<br />
