INTER THE CHART OF CULTU RALISM
Editor's Note All over the world, we often talk about "integration". But what does the word "integration" really mean? Integrating means being a member of a society or a group. This process is not always easy because it depends on people's ability to accept each other and socialize. In our view, this topic needs to be tackled by National Institutions’ commitment and the European Parliament’s cooperation. School, for instance, plays an important role in social integration because it promotes dialogue and acceptance between different people. To encourage integration at school, meetings should be held with the students who have experienced integration problems in order to share ideas, experiences and suggestions. The percentage of migrant children in schools all over Europe is expected to increase in the next future. Therefore the European Parliament should increase its efforts to face this challenge. Education policy must be implemented in order to avoid the creation of ghetto classes, in order to guarantee integration and equality, providing both the teaching of the language of the host country and also the teaching of the migrants' mother tongue. Moreover, we think that promoting social activities such as sport and theatre courses may encourage socialization and integration between all the students. Other activities that could be done are workshops in which boys and girls from different countries can talk about their cultures.
