SupportivePolicyBreaking downbarriers to successFrom bridging the gap in investment for socialventures to ensuring that they are part of governmentprocurement processes, we are creating anenvironment where social ventures can succeed.Influencing governmentWe stepped up our work influencing government andpolicymakers this year, responding to proposed policiesand consultations that impact the people we support,and building relationships with MPs and civil servants toencourage positive change.We are urging government and local authorities to putsocial value at the heart of decision-making processes onpublic sector procurement. They should make it transparent,flexible, and accessible, enabling social entrepreneurs todeliver key services.We also welcomed the launch of the Civil Society Strategy.There’s still further to go to ensure that people with ideas totackle some of our most pressing challenges are able tofulfil their potential to do so.“There is so much we can doto tackle society’s toughestchallenges if we really putour minds to it. Asco-chair I am encouragingus all to be braver, bolderand more accountable in ourvision for lasting change.”Mark NorburyChief Executive Officer, UnLtdAn inclusive economyUnLtd CEO Mark Norbury was appointed co-chair of thegovernment’s Inclusive Economy Partnership (IEP) this year.The IEP brings government, businesses and civil societytogether to collaborate on developing solutions to challengeswe face in society. It’s part of a movement to solve problemswith new ways of collaborative working, and is led by a groupof chief executives from organisations such as Accenture,National Grid, Nationwide and Unilever.The Impact FundWe’ve invested £1m from our Impact Fund to socialentrepreneurs to help them grow their businesses and creategreater impact. Set up in November 2017, it offers a blendof loan and grant between £50,000 – £150,000 alongsideexpert business support from UnLtd. It’s specifically forbusinesses working to create more jobs and training forpeople furthest from the labour market, such as disabledpeople, migrants, refugees, or people with long-term healthconditions.We know that social entrepreneurs face challenges inaccessing this level of funding and support. Chocolatemanufacturers Harry Specters, tea company Nemi Teas, andfashion brand Birdsong are just some of the businesses tohave received support.UnLtd was able to set up the Impact Fund thanks tofunding from the Growth Fund managed by Access – thefoundation for social investment.Photography: Remco Merbis24 UnLtd impact report 2019

In 2018 theyreceived £150,000 and supportfrom the Impact Fund.
