JADE ASTBURY
FROM HUDDERSFIELD
STUDIED ACCESS TO HE SOCIAL
SCIENCE
GOING TO UNIVERSITY OF
ABERYSTWYTH TO STUDY
PSYCHOLOGY
“I would not have been anywhere
near as prepared for university
without doing the Access to HE
course. You learn how to write
essays, do self-study and learn
how to reference – skills that you
wouldn’t get doing A-levels. I
just didn’t have the courage to
aim towards university when I left
school. I feel more prepared for
university in other ways now too.
“I feel like I have more confidence
and life experience and have
learned budgeting and money
management skills through working
and saving money. I feel like
waiting and doing it this way, I’m
really set up for university and a lot
more confident about it.”
JOEL ONOKOKO-YONGO
FROM HUDDERSFIELD
STUDIED BUSINESS
WORKING AT TGI FRIDAYS
AND HOPING TO GO INTO
MANAGEMENT
“Studying HE at Kirklees College has
given me great skills and opened
my mind. It’s a smaller environment
than university, so the teachers had
time to help students in a more
personal way.
“The best thing about the course
was what I learned has been useful
in my work life. I would be happy to
come back to Kirklees College. I’m
hoping to finish my management
courses and apply for a manager
position.”
